Fun Spot Atlanta closure - ArieForce One Six Flags Magic Mountain relocation (page 6)

Do we really think Fun Spot is in any position to be dictating such terms to Six Flags?
I mean, easily. Six Flags wants to cheap out as hard as possible and Fun Spot can give a discount in exchange for keeping the name. I'm not saying that's what happened or that I believe that's what happened, but that's how they easily could.

I think it's probably more likely so that Six Flags just doesn't wanna repaint the thing since the current paint is so fresh and if they just renamed it without a re-theme people would look at them sideways for being lazy, which they are.

I'm even more confident in this after it got revealed they named their Vekoma Thrillglider... Thrillglider

I really don't get the hate for the name. Reading complaints about it not being easy to pronounce makes me laugh. AF1 is a fire name and at least something original unlike Goliath, Batman or Ride of Steel.

They are leaning hard into its reputation:

"Built by Rocky Mountain Construction and originally opened at Fun Spot America Atlanta in 2023, ArieForce One became an instant sensation among coaster enthusiasts for its relentless pacing, powerful airtime and unforgettable ride experience.

"From the moment ArieForce One closed, we knew how much this coaster meant to the enthusiast community and to guests who made the journey to experience it," said Mark Pauls, Chief Operating Officer of Six Flags. "We're thrilled to preserve its legacy, invest in its future and bring this extraordinary attraction to a new generation of guests.""

That's a bit surprising to me, but the fact that Six Flags bought it at all is a bit surprising to me.

Not historical, but a name that's been in the news a lot.

The issue was never truly the name, but the story behind it: a regional park owner with a flair for the dramatic names a world-class coaster after himself, only to lose both the ride and the park within three years.

As enthusiasts, we tend to overanalyze these things. We love the lore, the ego, and the drama; but that nuance is lost on the general public. The average visitor doesn't know that The Racer at Kings Island sparked the Second Golden Age of roller coasters, nor do they appreciate the preservation of the Zippin Pippin or Knoebels' restoration of the Phoenix or Twister. To them, they are simply fun rides.

When ArieForce One is relocated, the casual parkgoer won't feel like they are kneeling at the altar of John Arie, nor will they care about the "historic" preservation of the ride. To them, it will simply be a fun ride.

AF1 is about half way dismantled now:

You think it can still complete a test run right now?

Well that is a shame, never nice to see a park close let alone one with a world class coaster.

If they do hopefully sell it the closest big park lacking a RMC is Carowinds and that would be a fab home or for something smaller but still decent Wild Adventures and that would be a great new star coaster for them. Both these parks companies have RMCs but not the best track record to be fair, hope the rides and Arieforce find new homes wherever they can.
yes carowinds is my home park and it needs an ejector machine like AF1 they could fit it in the dinosaur alive area

Lots of other rides are being parted out from Fun Spot Atlanta, especially after the recent auction;
  • Bumper Cars were picked up by Sunshine Shows of Pennsylvania.
  • Riptide is going abroad to the UK, hope y'all Brits are happy.
  • Scrambler was accidentally won in a joke bid by some Hersheypark goon, who fortunately managed to break even on it via the assistance of another bidder from Texas, taking it off of his hands.
  • Hurricane and a couple other rides were also allegedly sold to said Texas bidder, who can’t be disclosed immediately and has no current amusement park/ride operation in business.
  • Flying Eagles, Frog Hopper, and the Tilt-A-Whirl were retained by Fun Spot for their Orlando/Kissimmee parks.

I guess King Island president, Tony Carovillano, turned it down. He didn't want an RMC, doesn't like them.

I'm a bit confused. Is this a last-minute decision because of X2 closing? If that's the case, well... ArieForce One is awesome and easily one of the best coasters in the world, but it's probably one of the worst possible replacements for X2…

Can't wait for SFMM's next parking lot coaster!

Lord only knows the sequence here - it could have been a scramble as recovery from X2 (let’s not forget the Siren’s Curse pivot from SFM while TT2 went through another year of maintenance); but the park also had Thrill Gliders already on the docket for 2027? 🤷‍♀️

One thing is for sure - this undoubtedly the worst possible park for ArieForce One.
