Oh FFS!
I get the obsession with the quick, short term marketing gimmick. Frankly I'm sick of it, and think it's a pain in the arse that is leading to some stupid, detrimental, short term changes in the industry, but clearly there is something in the MBA mindset that says that this is smart...
For me, it's probably one of the smaller parks like Greenwood. Somewhere where I've had to pay full adult park entry to ride the single coaster. I'm sure I've been to a couple of other places that were similar, but most places I've visited for a mere cred run have at least been pay per ride.
I think the Mack design is probably about as good as you're going to get. Comfortable, a sense of vulnerability, and no obvious down sides. If the ride experience isn't up to scratch, that's a layout issue, not a train or restraint design one.
There's no reason why comfortable, well designed...
Only because whenever I've taken the time to update my top 10, I've added my top 10 to the end of the file and kept all previous versions around. It's interesting to go back and see how it's changed over time. It helps that I haven't had many number ones.
As for figuring out dates, I have...
In the early days it didn't take much for something to take my number one spot. The Ultimate, Velocity and Infusion all held my number one spot for a relatively short period.
Nemesis took my number one spot when I first rode it in 2007, and stayed in the top spot for around 10 months or so...
Maybe, but Blue Fire isn't a particularly forceful ride to begin with, so they'll probably get away with it here. It's probably one of the better rides for trialling the idea, and I suspect one of the things they're trying to find out is whether or not some of the elements are uncomfortable if...
I'm not a big fan of the idea of retrofitting this to existing rides, but I'm assuming Mack are just trialling this on Blue Fire as a proof of concept plan to see whether such a design is feasible on big, inverting coasters. I certainly hope so.
I quite like the concept though, and would be...
Yeah, I think that would make more sense. Variable size elements on a grid would provide a lot more flexibility, especially if they provided support for building elements at angles. I'm fine with interconnecting loads of pre-defined elements in order to build a ride relatively simply provided...
I'm not sure what my game plan is for 2016 yet. I'll probably wait and see what the CF Live schedule looks like before I plan anything concrete, but I've got a few ideas floating around.
I'll probably head down to Paultons for the Live, and head over to Belgium for the Halloween season if I can...
There's some video footage of the beta floating around on Twitch. From what I've seen, the coaster creation tools look like a clunky mess, and the whole game looks like alpha level code. If this is representative of the current state of the game then there's no way it's going to be in a playable...
Firearm ownership in the USA seems to be a really weird and complex issue. I can understand the logic behind the second amendment, although actual democracy seems to have been subverted pretty spectacularly despite the right to bear arms. For everyone with a sensible, pragmatic take on the...
Definitely vertical. Beyond vertical drops are great too, but there's something great and unique about the vertical drops on a dive machine that you just don't get anywhere else. The pop of ejector going over the top, followed by the sustained floating sensation all the way down is just amazing...
Re: Fantasy Island (UK) Updates
Yeah, but we're talking about the UK here, not the northern US. Temperatures will likely be above freezing for a long while yet, and I wouldn't expect to see snow any time soon. Conditions might not be ideal come January/February, but October/November? Not so much.
Re: Stagnant UK Coaster Situation.
A few years ago I'd have probably said Flamingo Land. However, given that the park clearly doesn't give a flying **** about guest experience any more I can't see them making the effort to install anything particularly worthwhile these days. If they do...
It's close, but I'm definitely a sucker for a good launch. It's got to be an absolutely amazing one though. A half-assed LSM launch won't do it for me. It's got to be a suitably insane kick in the back to get the adrenaline going. Intamin's best hydraulic launches are amazing, but there are also...
OK, so it's essentially Griffon with a bit more height and an extra inversion? Meh. Ok, It'll be a nice addition to the park as a whole, but it doesn't look like it's bringing anything particularly groundbreaking to the table.
I'm getting all cynical and jaded. You may have noticed.
Whilst I...
A few minor issues won't necessarily hurt my opinion of a ride, particularly if they're easily learned and avoided, but some rides, usually Intamin ones in my experience are ruined by being extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant if you don't take an extremely defensive approach to riding...
Whilst it's sad for the people who knew the deceased and have some sympathy for them, I tend to come down more on Darren and Snoo's side of the fence with this one. It's not the first time this has happened, and sadly I'm sure it won't be the last.
There is no excuse for someone recklessly...
The thing is, whilst you can (and probably should) try to take action to reduce the risk of a train valleying, there's always going to be a risk of it happening, even if it's only under really extreme circumstances. The ride system has to be able to handle a valleyed train safely, 100% of the...
