I think most coasters have a bit of expansion room. It's most noteable on old Vekomas - look at something like Infusion when it's in the station and you'll notice that there's a visible gap between the upstop wheels and the track. If I remember rightly, I'm sure I read somewhere that the likes...
I'm going to bring this back up, because I just experienced a textbook case of what I was talking about over the bank holiday weekend with Icon. It's an imperfect ride that, on paper, should be a fair way down my rankings, because I've ridden some absolute monsters over the year that, again on...
OK, I'm going to attempt to turn thoughts into words regarding how Icon actually rides.
In many ways, it's pretty typical Mack. It appears to absolutely crawl during testing with empty trains, but rides better than it looks once you get on ride. It's got the usual Mack mix of really fun...
Yeah, the loss of the regular videos is definitely a big deal. I remember when I first came on board in around 2007, I already had a pretty good feel for who was who on CF, and for the general atmosphere in the CF community, despite having never met anyone from the site in person. CF always felt...
A more detailed review will have to wait until I'm a bit more awake and coherent, but suffice to say Icon is pretty damn awesome. First thing in the morning, it's good, solid Mack fun. By later in the day, it becomes a complete beast of a ride, particularly in certain seats. I don't think I've...
Nemesis and Katun must be at the top of my list, trading places from time to time. When Nemesis is running at its absolute best, it's able to outshine the rides I had on Katun a fair few years back, but under normal conditions, Katun probably has the edge with it's immense size, forces and...
I'm afraid I beg to differ.
A poor example of a family coaster when compared with the likes of Mine Train Ulven or Polar Xplorer. Many of us expected better and were ultimately disappointed in the end result.
GCI at its most bland. I wasn't necessarily expecting crazy ejector, but I was...
There's a limit to how much they can do. The pirate boat ride is one huge building - once a fire gets into the roof space, it's going to spread. Likewise for the Norway area - it's quite a compact space, with lots of adjoined buildings. Once the fire's going, it's going to keep burning its way...
Yeah, I remember that. Helix was OK first thing, decidedly better by that afternoon ride, and then amazing at night.
It's interesting how Helix has changed over time. When I went back in 2016, the park opened early afternoon. By mid afternoon, Helix was running incredibly well, and I never had...
Yeah, that looks really fab. It looks like one of those wonderful family coasters that manages to deliver something for everyone. I'd love to see more coasters along these lines.
Djurs Sommerland is definitely high up on my list. That park has come on leaps and bounds since I first visited in 2009, and by 2014 felt like a really solid park with great attractions, nice areas, and something for everyone. They've continued with refreshing the older, more worn areas of the...
The forward POV looked a bit disappointing, but those rider cameras are definitely showing some promise. It's looking like a good ride, but after the lack of anything worthwhile in the UK for a while, I was really hoping for better than just "good". Then again, Mack rides often ride better than...
Here's hoping they can get rid of that vile bounce it seemed to have when we had the Live there with PAC a few years back. That vertical bumpiness it had hurt like hell.
I think that's probably just the car park off Balmoral Road, which is the one directly adjacent to the entrance. It's been used for coach parking and groups if I remember rightly, and it sounds like they've decided to open it up to other cars at a significant price premium. The other car parks...
The more I think about this one, the harder I find this to answer, at least in terms of box ticking.
See, there's a whole bunch of different elements that I really like, and all of my favourites seem to combine a mixture of different elements in ways that somehow make the whole experience more...
Don't parks usually have some of the manufacturer's engineers on site when the rides first open, to help deal with any teething problems? Do we know whether RMC has any staff on site?
I suspect that if the ride is re-opening this quickly, we can probably deduce that:
The collision was...
Disclaimer: Air/Galactica is the only B&M flyer I've had the opportunity to ride so far.
That said, Starry Sky Ripper looks amazing. I really liked the layout of the Vekoma Flying Dutchman at Six Flags America, and remember coming away thinking that the B&M train design and smoothness, combined...
I've never bothered with it. There isn't anywhere local to me with an IMAX theatre, and I've never been bothered enough to go out of my way for the experience. Perhaps if there was something that I really wanted to see, and there was a local IMAX theatre, I'd consider it, but there's very little...
That's an interesting question, mainly because there isn't much of significance in the family coaster bracket in the UK. Dragon's Fury at Chessington probably takes it for me, with honourable mentions going to Vampire at Chessington, and Flight of the Pterosaur at Paultons.
It's a shame...
