This is not about which coaster is better. Both way differ each other. This is about which one is more legendary? I know it is down to opinions so I think this may be an interesting poll.
Although the rockets won't replace classic lift based rides the number of rockets will increase. I'm not doubt about it. Vekoma is working on several launched concepts. These rides are less expensive and the parks that are lacking of rockets will be very interested in this type of coaster...

I'm pretty sure some people here on CF have seen this.
On a bigger airtime hill the increment factor of vertical speed drops down quickly whereas a small sharp airtime hill means a sudden reverse of the direction.
I can understand the way it works but it is much more difficult to explain.
Judging by the look I agree that the first concept looks a bit sloppy, however multiple airtime hills could produce more airtime or maybe it would be too intense sensation.
I have no idea why the engineers changed the plans though.
I doubt the engeeners at Intamin would recommand a more expensive ride that consists of more supports than it is needed or worse, make a mistake not support the ride well enough.
A sudden drop is more fun. I don't mind countdown. I like both actually. As for rocket coasters, there's a countdown or something similar on every accelerator I have been on.
Well, the drop on Stealth is a bit different
