^ Funny that you mention it, I've also ridden Silver Star in 2013 and 2015, without trims and it's amazing. As for my answer to this topic, probably Thirteen. It could've been a great family coaster but now it's just urgh <//3
Well, I wouldn't know if there were any effects missing, and to me it was great regardless. But I think some of those you mentioned were working for us at least (the arch of water thing was soaking!). James said a couple of small things weren't working but the important stuff was all fine. About...
From the top of my head:
Typhoon (Bobbejaanland)
The Big One (Blackpool Pleasure Beach)
Anaconda (Walygator Parc)
MP-Xpress/Condor (Movie Park Germany/Walibi Holland)
Hollly's Wilde Autofahrt (Holiday Park)
Mack also has Alpina Blitz, Storm and Dwervelwind. Maybe they don't have a lot big coasters yet, but what they have is perfectly engineered. Glass smooth, the best trains in the industry and just sheer quality. That's their modern stuff at least.
Phantasialand has two of the best of its type. Chiapas is a very modern and amazing log flume and River Quest is a unique take on a rapids.
Going more traditionally, Liseberg probably has both my fave traditional log flume and traditional rapids.
Both parks only have two proper water rides but...
Helix is my favourite. The FAB lighting of the train, the lighting in the park. The city surrounding the park all lit up. The contrast of speeding through the trees in the dark for one moment and then soaring high in the air overlooking the city the next moment. The relentless speed and...
Oh, I didn't expect to love it anywhere near as much as I love Gröna. And I definitely agree that they're quite different in some ways. Especially when it comes to the ride selection.
I did get a bit of a Gröna Lund vibe from the park, mostly because it has so many rides crammed into a...
Just focussing on Europe atm (roughly in order of how desperate I am to ride them);
1. Alpina Blitz - Spite :(
2. Fluch von Novgorod - Looks soooo good. Especially longing to experience the launch.
3. Kärnan - It intrigues me. Not sure if it's actually great or not.
4. Katun - I love me a fab...
Yes, you got to the brakes first, but then you braked a lot more than me so I passed you on the way back to the station and got into the station first. There's no finish sign, so the one who enters the station first is the winner. So sorry ;)
@jayjay - Hah, I was talking about the Gerstlauer ride where you can flip it over. The Red Arrows ride. Sadly we got spited when we wanted to ride the one you meant. That's interesting though!
@Mysterious Sue - The comparison with Wiener Prater was only based on the coaster selection. BPB's...
Day 5
Blackpool Pleasure Beach is next. I've always been intrigued by the park, since kinda looks like a much less classy Gröna Lund. Obviously I didn't expect it to be as good, but I was still very excited to go there. Also great to finally get a chance to ride some British woodies. It took us...
I think Gerstlauer has its fair share of great coasters. Shame everybody always forgets about Junker... (which is fantastic). And Kärnan seems to be great too. Honestly, the majority of Gerstlauers I've ridden are quite good. The launched coasters, the family coasters, the bobsleds. I'd still...
Oblivion might've been great in 1998. But I don't think it holds up. I'm sure Vekoma loopers were also good for their time. Misty tunnel? There was hardly any mist when I was there. Baron has a far mistier tunnel. I also didn't get that much of a headchopper, but that might be seat-related. I...
Day 3
I'm just going to do the first day in detail, and then cover the highlights and new rides on the second day more briefly.
Definitely the most anticipated day of the trip. I've been wanting to visit Alton Towers for years. I never thought that much of the coaster selection (apart from...
Yeah, I'm planning to come back in 2019 to do the new coasters in BPB and Alton and to visit Lightwater Valley, Flamingo and perhaps some of the other "major" parks I've yet to do. Will be hard to wait two years to go back to Alton Towers though, I miss it deeply :(
