Great to see new, exciting coasters being announced! It might just be me being an old frump, but it seems to me that it's becoming longer and longer between each time we see a project of this scale in Europe. In the world in general, it seems.
On the other hand, it's a bit sad to see the park...
The world serpent, if you like. For whatever reason, the old Norse term "Jormundgandr" is more common in English usage, but the Scandinavian languages tend to modernize it.
On it as we speak, actually! Just waited for the previous year's poll to get any sort of reaction before we started.
That and an unusually bad case of procrastination, of course.
As of the currently collected data, Stardust Racers is in the lead for this year's poll! Granted, I've only...
Wait, what? Six Flags Over Texas is the original Six Flags park. It's literally how the chain got its name. The original concept for the park was "Texas under six flags", that is, the six countries that have claimed ownership over it since Europeans brought flags to the New World. To wit, these...
It's not even just physical factors, but psyhcological too. Admittedly, I've only heard it from one local, but apparently, in these climates, it's not really anybody's idea of fun to spend a day outdoors if it can be helped. Spending the evening outdoors, sure, but the daylight itself is...
My brother got free tickets to a pre-showing and asked if I'd come, so I decided to tag along. Haven't been to the movies in a while, and judging by this thread, neither has anybody else. Anyway:
A Minecraft Movie
It's approximately as subtle as a shovel to the face, although probably a lot...
I suspect it's because they don't want to call too much attention to what is about to become a torrent of big coaster closures. We are reaching the point where the coasters Six Flags built in the mid–nineties to mid-noughties are reaching the end of their life spans. Every year for a while now...
Parques Reunidos seems to have squeezed out all the juice they can from those particular lemons, and have now managed to sell the desiccated husks while they still have some colour left. Hopefully, the new owners will treat the parks better.
Funny thing is, I think we've all said the same for at least ten years. The park has long appeared to be doomed, but has somehow chugged along for years regardless. That being said, they might have made just enough money to pay for operations and daily maintenance, but not enough to compensate...
The connections between the elements are the weak links, after all. When two pieces of track hit the ground together, the force is more likely to tear off the bolts that connect them, than the solid steel tubes they are assembled from. Same with supports held together with bolted flanges, or any...
Gotta wonder how Falcon's Flight will be different in that regard. If the world's tallest coaster can't draw enough people to New Jersey to be worth the operational costs, I can't imagine one will draw enough people to Riyadh to cover operational costs that will surely be three times as high.
Literally everything that has anything to do with Parques Reunidos. Its owners don't care one iota about amusement parks anyway, the money is all they're after, so they could feasibly have gone and mucked up another industry instead and left the theme park world alone.
That depends on the rides, I guess. If the idea is to rely solely on transportable fairground rides, getting everything else up first may be easier than the other way 'round.
