Thoughts on Hyperia (mini trip report)
Visited Thorpe Park on Sunday 13th October.
First and foremost, Thorpe Park impressed me. Operations were absolutely immaculate. I've never seen slicker ops at a UK theme park. Mega, mega impressed. Not the same can be said for Alton Towers yesterday, but...
At least we can now say with a bit of confidence no trims should ever get fitted to those brackets on the immelman exit!
Saw this coming a mile away to be fair so I'm flabbergasted Thorpe engineers didn't. Those early morning empty train test runs have been unbelievably slow.
I like what Thorpe are doing with the stylised approach rather than theming (with exception of Swarm which I'm cool with as it's on it's own island). Has a kind of mini Cedar Point/boardwalk kinda vibe, I like it. Probs an opinion which most will disagree with.
I like the immersion of Alton...
This thread has been going for over two years and we've all been conversing on Hyperia pretty much daily. But still, I can't fathom for the life of me how we've ended up with this thing in the UK and I still don't truly believe it's real. To see it topped off is amazing!
16th tallest...
I'm trying really hard not to suggest that this could be one of, if not the best first drops in the the world.
Also trying hard not to be speculative or overdramatic. But how can a vertical twisting 230ft plunge not be! So very unique! It's dive coaster gargantuan but with classic two across...
B&M has that satisfying overweight cuddliness to it. Chonky. Like a really fat dog. I'm not sure it's as aesthetically pleasing as Intamin or next gen Vekoma, but when I see it, it brings a sense of comfort, almost calm. You know it will look after you and be happy to see you when you get back...
Whatever it's going to be called you can bet your bottom dollar it's going to scare the living hell out of the average theme park guest.
That's why I think they've nailed it. Sure, all us goons would have wanted a couple of extra airtime hills but the average guest won't give two hoots. It's...
Wait. We calling this an overbank rather than an outerbank...
Surely for it to be an overbank it would need to pitch to the right?
Don't get distracted by my elite photoshop skills below (yes that's the arse end of Thomas the Tank Engine), but none of us can look at that and say it's an...
I don't think they ever will tell the truth. I don't think its is slander, as such, but a few people might leave BPB thinking "the big one iz vertical innit" and as a result, may not chose to visit other theme parks because they think the big one is the tallest fastest steepest rollercoaster in...
**cries in zero emmission**
That tickled me. It was relevant to the discussion though. RITA would hands down be my number 1 at AT if the launch had more of a kick!
It's actually hard to disagree with this. The last few times I've been on it I've learnt to appreciate it much more. The twisty airtime hills are decent, perhaps some of the best airtime we've got in the UK. Something really satisfying about ducking in and out of the trees as well.
In a weird...
Poor post from me, apologies. I know no theme has been confirmed - I was referring to Exodus, which is giving me Egyptian vibes rather than Greek ones.
Icarus would be cool. The story is kinda relevant as well (flying too close to the sun) so it's fitting for the tallest ever UK rollercoaster.
I thought it was Egyptian themed though, not Greek...
My money's still on Darren Browns Ghost Train 2 though.
I'm a massive, massive dive coaster fan. As are the general public, as mentioned above, huge crowd pleasers.
On the enthusiast side, I'm neutral. The first drop in the back row is gonna be absolutely incredible, but what follows doesn't really take my fancy. There'll be other enthusiasts out...
Interestingly, 'Exodus' is a passage in the bible about the departure of Israelite slaves from Egypt. That looks to be some kind of Egyptian theme, for sure.
Ermm, yeah.
This screams Amanda Thompson. Wonder if Thorpe consulted her after her genius idea to theme Icon to a Japanese bathroom. I...
