Goon of the Year
Before I start, this is NOT a discussion of 13 at Alton Towers, if that happens I will ask this topic to get locked, and end of discussion/comments.

I have been noticing a lot now that the number 13 doesn't appear on houses (happens within my lot of flats), airplane rows (on the Boein 737 it jumps from 12 to 14) etc. Most people fear the number 13, which is called Triskaidekaphobia.

So do you fear the number 13? Or do you feel its just a big nonsense, and nothing to be worried about.

No of course I don't because I'm not stupid.

No.

I'm the oposite. Its my fav number and it follows me, just like 9 and 3 and now 37.

I fear nothing superstitious like that, just more like 'I have to do something like this or it's bad luck' kinda superstitious. But, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter at all.

My youngest older sister has Triskaidekaphobia, she can't listen to anything on volume 13 for example, she literally freaks out, but me personally, nope, don't bother me.

No I'm not really. But my friend Sean is terrified and is being followed around by the number 69.

That's funny you should mention that, I wasn't scared, but I got a little freaked when I kept seeing the number 69 everywhere, like first I noticed a sign which had 69 spray painted on the back, then I walked past a restauraunt which said 69 on the window, obviously because that's it's number, then I walked accross the road and saw bus number 69, before seeing a number plate which included 69 in the title lol.

It's been following him since he got into high school. He's a sophomore. Even our student teacher for band noticed it a lot.

No. One of my teachers was going on and on about how her dad is terrified of the number 3, any year or month or day with 3 in it he freaks out, if he sees triples of anything he'll get scared, etc...pretty stupid imo.

Haha no, not really.. I won't go out of my way to avoid it or anything but on an airplane or something I probably still wouldn't want to sit in row thirteen :p . With that being said, I am a bit superstitious, but nothing that will hinder my daily activities.

Nope. I'm not a fool. 13 is a number. Simple as.

Superstition doesn't bother me at all.

Nope, although I do remember once when it was Friday the 13th and I was aware of that 'fact' and the bus from school to home didn't arrive that day, which is quite interesting, considering that there's only been 2 or 3 times in my life in Finland when a bus hasn't arrived (maybe out of 300 times or more I've been taking the bus..). But yeah, that's all I can think of, when the number 13 sort of had something to do with bad fortune etc, so obviously I don't believe it.

About the 13th row or 13th floor they don't have on planes resp. buildings, I think that's weird as still the 14th row/floor would be the "13th row/floor" when you coun't them. I think it seems contradictory if just a tiny sign, label is the source of bad luck, if you know what I mean. Rather if I was to believe it in their way, there should be a 13th row which was to be kept empty or a 13th floor, with nothing in it or so (which there might be somewhere aswell though).

I don't believe in it, and I don't think companies should pander to people stupid enough to be scared of it.

Unlike other phobias, like spiders or heights, fear of a number is something that has to be learned. Phobias are designed to make us wary of life threatening situations - they're a natural part of being human and built in protective functions.

You will be born with a natural tendency to be fearful of things, which may develop into a phobia as you get a little older. It's natural.

However, a number is a human invention, and something which you have to learn. Does a three year old learning to count have a fear of the number 13? No, but they should have a wariness of things like heights, snakes, spiders, crocodiles and Stone Cold.

the fear of a number is something that is instilled by our culture well after the number has been learned. It's ridiculous and neurotic and everyone should stop right now making such stupid things worse. Maybe we should round up everyone who has a fear of a number and lock them up, in groups of thirteen, on the 13th floor of a building ;)

I consider 13 a lucky number and Friday 13th a lucky day so I guess thats a no.

Interestingly most people think of 7 as a lucky number so nobody will have thought of July 7th as bad luck in 2005 will they.

My Mum freaked once when she saw that we were on Row 13 when we were going on holiday. If anything we had a great view of the TV and then asked to sit on row 13 on the way back.

Not really superstitious in anyway.

Nope. I'm not very superstitious at all. My dads birthday falls on the 13th though so a few times he's had his birthday on Friday 13th. :p
