2012 Olympics

The 2012 Olympics is being advertised everywhere especially with Lloyd's TSB. But are you actually interested in the Olympics?

To be honest I'm not and can't understand why its as popular as it is. They are spending a huge amount of money on advertising it and also look at how much the logo cost to be created.
 
Cause we suck, lol.

I think england has a tendncy to over advertise everything and it's going to be ****. Look at the last finale. We're never going to top that. They had freaking Jackie Chan for christ sakes!
 
I like it in the aspect that more stuff in the tourism industry has the chance to open up due to a flock of tourists. The rest of it is just crap, and that's how I feel about sport generally now. Repetitive, competitive, useless crap.
 
Actually I really like the olymipcs when it comes to watching certain events on television, like the diving, luging, skiing, and some other things, but even here, the Vancouver 2010 olympics are WAY too over advertised, and it doesn't help that my work sponsers it, so we have all this crap olympic merchandise as well.

But, it's an exciting thing for cities when the olympics come to them, and although they advertise it too much, I think they have a right to be excited.
 
Its going to be good, I've been to the Olympic Site and its far from finished but you can see how much work is being undertaken and its huge. This should shape up to be a great event, it definatley won't be as good as Beijing and I don't think anything will ever top it. I think we should all just be quiet about how much the Olympics cost. Its going to bring in tons of money for the UK and if we spend well the money will bring itself.
 
For the East End of London it'll be good...

Probably for London travel it'll be a nightmare...

Hopefully for the attractions (i.e Chessie/Thorpe) it'll mean a lot more income...

Basically I agree with Dave...

What we need to do is NOT try and make it as good as Bejing, but to make it our own one, and put the bloody Red Arrows in and have everyone come in on old London Buses instead of walking in...

Just make it British and full of London references...
 
Hmm... London 2012/2013 surely is going to be good. Unlike the proposed 2018 Olympics in Norway, you actually have something to use the facilities to after the games. And, you can accomodate the guests.

Hopefully, (or sadly, decide for yourself), Thorpe's next Big ride (note capital B) will be built in 2012. If there ever was a possibility for a new World-class ride in the UK, 2012 should be the year.

Also, I agree with N:I up here. Make it British. Beijing was quite generic, but you could at least base it on some of your history (note: Some of it. Until way up the Medieval times, you were invaded by most peoples who ever set a foot in Western Europe, and from then on until WWII, well, you know the story). Have all the officials wear wigs, and promote tea to any-and everyone who has anything to do with the events. Also, start enforcing all the old laws you never removed up trough the ages, that would surely hit headlines all over the world. Have fun practising longbow shooting, boys!
 
Btw, the Red Arrows aren't banned people, just to clarify. I believe its something to do with high rise buildings surronding the Olympic Site, so it be too dangerous...and if they did fly over it be quite high up.
 
I'm interested in the Olympics and I think its great for an area to receive the games. Of course its going to be hyped up more and advertised more within the country which is hosting the games but its not like its something which happens all the time.

Hopefully once the Olympics are over the village area can be used again and given back to the local communties unlike what happened in Athens where alot of the facilites are lying empty and rotting away.

I swear the Red Arrows have flown through London before, near Victoria station, which has lots of high ride buildings there as well, some more research into this may be required...

I love the olympics, so I'm looking forward to 2012. I'll admit I'm not entirely optomistic about our opening/closing ceremonies, if our part in Beijing's closing ceremony is anything to go by. But I hope the rest of the games will go well.
 
Parts of the Olympics are boring, but Track obviously interests me quite a bit.

Plus the fact this is one of the few global events out there, that showcase many many sports. Definitely awesome to say the least.

I'm interested. Any athletics on TV, I watch. Dunno why, I mean, all the girls have small tits and only about 2 of 'em are attractive...but oh well.

But we all know 2012 will fail epically, and we will look like fools to the world.
 
2013 will be a disaster. Look at the energy advert from eon or whoever-lets have a green, pc olympics. ****ing bollocks. Why can't we for 4 weeks just go beserk and put on an amazing show? Oh, thats right, we can't 'cos it's not allowed.

Anyway, it won't be built in time and end up being staged in a public swiming pool and astro turf. The athletes will be shot at and the medals will be stolen. To use a well known joke, for the moeny wasted on this farce we could have writen **** of Germany onto the moon.

I swear I read in the news last year that the Red Arrows were banned from the 2012 Olympics because they were "too militaristically British". It may of changed now as I'm not following the Olympics at all.
Personally I find the Olympics crap. They take up loads of hours on TV and they turn something that I had to do in PE at school into a massive event that lasts ages.
 
I am not fussed tbh.

I do not think we need the expense right now, but it will be a boost for the UK when it happens.

As for the area its a good thing, as it was one of the roughest parts of London and it has now been cleaned up and thats a good thing. I used to live in the East End so trust me much needed to be done to sort out the area that people would simply not go to thanks to crime.

Plus if you believe the right people, 2013 isn't gonna happen :P
