Best Film Soundtracks

What are the best film soundtracks of all time? Do you have any personal favourites?

One I've always loved is Chicken Run. I usually get the music randomly stuck in my head and when I watch the film the music in it is amazing.

I love a good film soundtrack;

(Always find Requiem for a Tower more powerful)

(So many to choose from! But in terms of adding to a scene...)

OMFG! My second favourite topic now!

Building the Crate takes a while to get into, but then is EPIC <3

The whole Inception score is amazing. Every single track. If it wasn't in the film, the film would be not as good, probably average - that's how important it is. But my favourite track is Time - brilliance.

Although Dark Knight was overrated (in my option), once again, Hans Zimmer does his job in creating an epic, eerie and brilliant soundtrack.

Hans Zimmer is a God.

Truman Sleeps <3 Amazing section of an amazing film.

I realised that I haven't posted any videos in my post, but all the stuff posted so far is bliss and I'm too tired to find some more of my favourite tracks.

But seriously, Hans Zimmer can touch me as everything he touches with his conducting skills turns to gold...hence why I really want to reluctantly see Kung Fu Panda 2...

The film was average - the soundtrack didn't save it :p

I used to love soundtracks when I was younger, but I just don't have time to sit and listen to music and appreciate it any more. So there's nothing from me really.

Obviously love Danny Elfman and The Nightmare Before Christmas is a long standing favourite, but I adore the original Batman theme and Beetlejuice. Certainly my top two favourites of his traditional themes.

I used to be addicted to James Horner's Aliens soundtrack, but I used to be addicted to the film too  Likewise Vangelis' fantastic electro/jazz Blade Runner theme (and the film) :)

My favourite "songs" kind of sound track is Manhunter, with some outstanding tracks that really make the film and they introduced me to the eclectic and fab Shriekback.

I have loads (all the above, Silence of the lambs, Terminator 2, Earth girls are easy, Cocktail and Top Gun; plus others I've forgotten) on cassette tape - so they're completely and utterly useless

Loads really. One of my all time favourites is the soundtrack to Bram Stoker's Dracula by Wojciech Kilar. The whole soundtrack is brilliant, but a few favourites :

Gremlins! **** ing brilliant:

Candyman, by Philip Glass - probably my favourite horror film and scored by on of my favourite composers.

Rosemary's Baby - Scary as all ****, but gorgeous at the same time:

MY favorite soundtrack has to be for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, all the music is written by Beck and preformed by various musicians

Serious ****. CBA to get more though.

Now here's a topic I could write an essay for. EDIT: I actually did. Epic, spammy post follows.

Ollie: I'm a huge fan of John Powell, the Chicken Run composer. He's sort of a companion to Michael Giacchino (also a huge fan) insomuch that he loves using huge, brassy ensembles coupled with very strong themes.

John Powell + Hans Zimmer COMBO

And some lovely Giacchino:

I'll probably continue this topic when it's not 4am, but here are some misc others. I'll edit stuff in later:

It's probably unwise to listen to these two at night:

Finally, the score to my favourite film. It started me off on my as-yet-unfinished film score bender:

Right, that's enough of my bollocks for one night. I also think perhaps I should spend my time listening to a genre other than almost exclusively soundtrack?

Even though the music is licenced, in my opinion, Danny Boyle wins an award for the best use of editing and sound. I always enjoy his choice of music, it's fantastic, and Trainspotting alone shows it all!

Other than that I really like Donnie Darko's soundtrack, theres not a single track on that film I dislike.

Anything by John Williams, but in particular Jurassic Park. I saw this on TV again the other day. This film really sands the test of time.

Tron is another great soundtrack from Daft Punk and also Gladiator by Hans Zimmer. I'm keeping my eye on Columbiana by the Pfeifer Broz Orchestra as well.

^I love that song.
The film 'The Fall' has an amazing soundtrack. It's an amazing film as well. :)

My god. That guy <3. Was it polymorphia the one I really liked?

Haven't anyone seen Pinchcliffe Grand Prix here? For those who haven't, it's a 1975 Norwegian animated film which is said to be the biggest Norwegian movie hit to date (it sold more tickets than there were people in Norway the year of its release). The soundtrack is extremely well known over here, just whistle a few tones of any song walking on a Norwegian street and people will instantly recognise it. I couldn't find the soundtrack, but here is a shortened version of the first half of the film, with a lot of the music in it:

EDIT: Looks like it's mostly cut, so you don't hear much of the music. Should still give you an idea of what the movie is about, though.

Well, after a bit more looking, I found the most well known song from the movie, Theodore's Ballad:

Also, I'm surprised that nobody have brought this up yet:

This is going to be at my funeral. And people will CRY. Sob. Sob like I do when I watch this episode. Or think about it. Omg.

Computer is being slow, so can't post vids, but some that come immediately to mind are Requiem for a Dream, Pirates of the Caribbean, Brokeback Mountain and Lord of the Rings.

Yeah, I'm surprised that no music from Star Wars has been mentioned yet either. John Williams really did do some amazing music for films.

I've always had a soft spot for the Back To The Future theme though like Kim posted on the previous page.

Can't think of anymore at the moment.
