Castle Coaster

rctwik

Roller Poster
I'm thinking of creating a castle coaster... I'm sorry it's kind of a floorless dive machine. I know everybody hates them for some reason. I could change it to a launching coaster though. Please bear in mind I'm a beginner at Wing, I got it today  Tell me what you think... If there's anyone who replies..

OH YEAH, Help! How do i post a pic on the post without it being on the internet and having a U-R-L... Or do i just post the location of it on my PC??
I have to wait SEVEN days before i post any link anyway

It's either seven days or 20 posts. I can't remember.

You want to get yourself an account on an image hosting site such as Photobucket or Imageshack. Upload your pictures, then copy the "" link into the post here.

If there's a link can't you just put the url except with space instead of dots and brackets round the /'s etc? Then all people would have to do is copy and paste and delete the brackets.
Or... If you've got MSN send the pictures to me and I'll post them for you if you want.

First progress

Thanks for the help.
Well here's the picture on imageshack.
I'm not very good at making advanced 3ds stuff, but If I say so myself it's okay :)
I worked out how to add a picture DUH, but the question is will it work..
Here's the link from imageshack anyway

Hope it works -

From now on this is going to be progress of my build of the ride, 3ds and the track. This is my first one on CF so please reply and log on to see how it's going :)

This is an arch in a castle in Wings 3D, I made it by moving edges around and stuff, There is a bit of a fail in the corner, how'd that get there? :?

Hall

This is the hall the roller coaster will drop into just before the main drop.
There are shackles and very simple torch lamps, I could maybe add a transparent yellow texture around the lamp to make it look like a light..

Looks really good for your first ride. Just make sure the archways and doorways are high enough for the train to fit through.
Also try not to get too repetitive when duplicating objects down hallways. It's easy to do but it also makes it look slightly tacky.
Looks nice though. :)

You're quite right, I dived straight in. Well i guess it's going to be quite a small roller coaster, oh well, size doesn't always matter

This is the exterior of the station building. The reason I have already done the roof is because i can always move it if I want to and I have no idea what scenery to put in there, ideas? :)

These are the doors the coaster will go in and come from the main castle building.

^So you're just making it up as you go along? Like Erol said you really need to build the track first or it'll never fit. Trust us it won't.
You also have to plan the ride thoroughly for it to be any good. If you just throw random objects in there then the ride will be random and won't flow well.
My advice.
Go off and build the track now. The export it into Wings and build the Scenery round that. Also plan out all the scenes and what objects you're going to make to put in there before you do. Make a sketch or something as it'll help a lot when building it.

Ok, then I'll export what i've done on the castle to NL and work the track from there, Then i'll export the track and do more work on the castle.

just so you know it's going well :--D Just textures a going to be a problem, i might need a texturing programme. Ollie, how do you texture your 3DS from Wing?[/list]

It fits, I'm using the castle so far as guidlines for the coaster and then when i finish the coaster i'll import it to Wings. I know what I'm doing now and it's working :--D

Track

This is the track, It's definately not going to be a dive machine..
The smoothing has been driving me up the wall, I hate it how it's so hard to smooth track and make it flow without those damned jumps
Here it is:

^In the middle left picture the track goes through the wall twice which is why you should of really built the track first.
Looks alright though. Just make sure you spend plenty of time smoothing it.
Now you've just got to add the textures.

I know  I was just making a basic map with the castle, I will make holes and stuff for the track when i export it to wing. Btw, how do you import the track to wing?

Getting smoother..
How do i export my coaster to 3ds without using the coaster contsruction kit because you can't get it anymore because of a key and i don't really want to buy...

Labelling the pictures like so:

1 2
3 4
5 6

1. The banking on the half loop closest to the camera is out and the two corkscrews look too tight and they don't look like they fit together at all.
2. See 5.
3. The track comes through a wall, into the vertical drop, through the floor. Not good. Also, there is a trim brake of some sort on the hill, with catwalks. Finally, that overbank style corner looks painful.
4. At least one wall hit and the banking looks a little weird on that helix.
5. No flat section. I'm not pulling the "if-they-haven't-built-it-you-can't" card, but I doubt they'd go straight from the lift to the drop. Not only does it look wrong, but it wouldn't work very well either. The catwalks also look silly.
6. Don't have the vertical drop straight. It needs to be smooth.

Sorry to criticize so much, but you might as well find out the hard way. :p

I quite like the idea, but you really need to think this track through fully before you start the track. The 3Ds should be done after the trackwork.
