I went on tour with my band a couple of weeks ago. We played in these cities:
Which meant driving past:
-Hansa Park
-Europa Park
-Skyline Park
-Plopsaland
-Belantis
-Walygator
-Phantasialand
...to name a few. Talk about goon torture!
But whenever I had enough time, I hunted down the nearest parks for some coaster action.
The venue we played in Copenhagen was round the corner from Tivoli Gardens. Yay for city parks! I nipped in after soundcheck as the sun was setting.
Tivoli Gardens is so pretty at dusk, with all its twinkling lights.
I already have all the creds, so I mooched around taking in the lovely atmosphere first.
Daemonen is more commonly known as One Of The Worst B+M's to grace the earth.
It looks well nice, but riding it again only confirmed my memory of it being a dull, by-the-numbers looper. Shame.
I rode The Flying Trunk afterwards, one of my fave dark rides ever. It's themed to the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson. How they manage to cram in so many stories on this ride is staggering. With lovely sets and a beautiful soundtrack, it's safe to say it's a fairy good ride.
Rutschebanen next. God, I love this coaster. It's such a fun ride, especially since they did up the mountain areas that you trundle through. Decent pops of airtime if you sit in the back row too. Just goes to show that old rides can still be just as good as shiny new ones.
I didn't take any pics of it, so have a photo of a Peacock going to get some chips instead
And that was it, had to head back to get on stage. Yeah, I only rode 3 rides but Tivoli Gardens is the kind of park you can enjoy just wandering around.
On the Saturday, I managed to spend the afternoon in Holiday Park. I've driven past Holiday Park on previous tours, so I can't tell you how pleased I was that I finally got to stop off there!
FUN FACT: If you arrive anytime after 3pm you get a 10euro discount off the entrance price!
The park was bought by the Plopsa brand last year. I adoor the new entrance they've added to the park
They've also added Studio 100 character-themed lights
This ones a Maya The Bee-yonet bulb, I believe.
It was chucking it down with rain, so for a Saturday - the park was super quiet. I headed straight for Expedition Ge Force. I've heard so much bout this Intamin Mega Coaster, it was hard to quelch my high Expeditiontations.
Hmm, don't know I was prepared to wait this long for it though:
So, where do I begin? Oh yeah, with THAT FIRST DROP <3 What a breath taker!
Then bam, straight into a hill full of sustained ejector. The train then snakes around, dipping and diving through the trees. It's a really wonderful coaster, I can see how it has topped so many polls over the years.
It's forceful without being painful, intense without being headache-inducing. The pacing and layout is pretty much perfect. You could re-ride this thing all day if you wanted and it wouldn't lose it's charm.
It's fab.
But here's the thing, I WISH the area this coaster is in weren't so grey and disgusting. The station is so drab and the radio endorsement with pop tunes blaring out instead of ride music just makes it all feel a bit naff and fun-fairy. A coaster this good deserve a proper theme, not a product tie-in.
Oh well.
I rode the log flume next, you've got to make the most of them now because of the Great UK Log Flume Crisis of 2016. It was one of those ones that went backwards. In direct contrast to the Expedition Ge Force area, the log flume was themed to Vic the Viking and the area looked quite nice. I mean, it still had that plasticy Plopsa feel, but at least it wasn't sheets of grey metal everywhere.
I forgot to take a photo, sorry.
Rode Sky Scream next. I was excited because I have heard quite a lot about it's new Sky Theme. Basically they've made the queue line a horror walk through. From the outside, the facade doesn't look too impressive
I don't like the sultry vampire girl poster, it looks like an advert. Themeing is better when it's more otherworldly than just a person dressed up as a vampire.
Anywho, the actual queue line is great. Imagine walking through the Brean Ghost train - there's plenty of gory animatronics and jumpy moments. All my photos were too dark though
So, would the coaster be as good as its queue? No. Not at all.
You've got to give props to Premier Rides really: they've managed to make a 150ft, triple launch coaster a complete non-event. It just doesn't do anything! Imagine a faster RC Racer with an inversion at the top - that's all it is! Why are so many parks buying these Premier Sky Rockets?! They give such little ride experience and have terrible through put.
And last, and certainly least, is the final cred: the obligatory Wild Mouse. The area it's in looks super tacky.
The brakes on this coaster gave me bruises on my ribs. Ugh. One and done, thank you very much.
So, what else is there to do at Holiday Park?
Well, there's a really bleak dark ride.
Say hello to Falkenstein Castle. It's not a ghost train, it's a ride themed to the middle ages. Set pieces include: hands clawing out from beneath a well, starved prisoners in chains, men ripping ladies tops off, all manners of grim abuse....and a cool dragon at the end. I've never felt depressed by a dark ride before, but I couldn't wait to get off this thing.
Rode the rapids, they were ok. Didn't brave the drop tower. Chillaxed with Heidi
And that's it. That's all there is to do. "Holiday" Park? More like "Rainy Afternoon" park!
Even on a busy day, you probably couldn't fill an entire day there - it's just so sparse.
Speaking of sparse, we were the only car left in the Holiday Car Park, and we left early!
That's it for round one, stay tuned for next months Creds On Tour in which I will be attempting to get Olympia Looping in Vienna, a few alpine coasters and any other creds I can grab on this mammoth route!
