Do you trust fun fair rides?

Um, seeing as you can't umbrella all fun fair rides together, this question has no answer.

Depends on how Gyppo'ish the fair is. So 99% of the time it's a no, but I still go on them either way. :)

in concept fun fair rides aren't safe because they are always moving places. but ive been on quite a few and i think that i'm still alive

No not really, we have a gyppo fair that visits our town every year, the rides don`t look any unsafer then any other travelling fair, its the people operating them I don`t trust.

Actually, there's a school of thought (or is that Thaught? What's a thaught? What's a Thaught Park? That sounds like a very Orwellian theme park to me...) that suggests that fair rides in theory should be safer because their constant reconstruction leads to a constant inspection of parts. Or at least in theory. Obviously like anything it depends on whose hands it's in.

^ You could argue the theory on the other side - constant reconstruction and moving a ride will wear and damage the parts quicker. Crap example, but say you kept moving house and had to take apart and re-fix your bed, it never feels quite right once it's been reconstructed.

I don't do fairground rides because a) the cycles are too long, spiny and sickly and b)...

^I'm missing the joke, aren't I? I don't get b...

But, yes, generally, I do trust them, mostly because I just can't imagine something like that happening to me, and also, no fairs come near me, let alone my parents letting me go. </3

Don't worry Ian.... I get you :p

I get it... but I have never had anything stolen from me in a fun fair :) But i'm sure it happens a fair amount.

I'm with Ian on this one. The main reason why I don't do fairground rides is because they tend to make me feel sick with the long cycles. But it's more the people that operate/put the rides together that I don't trust.

Don't they not have like a tax disc thing in the operator booth thing to show they have maint checks and ****? I think I remeber someone mentioning this and avoiding the ones without like the plague.

I don't bother with them at all. It's not that I don't trust them necessarily; it's just that we don't get decent ones around here really. I can happily not do spin 'n' spew rides as well, unless it's a type I haven't tried, so they hold no real attraction for me.

As far as "trusting" them goes, then I don't have an issue. It's easy to say "Gyppo" this and "Pikey" that, but the truth is that it's still their main form of income and they can't afford for things to **** up that badly. If there's an accident, they're just as liable as if it happened at, say, a Merlin park.

I used to not be allowed to go to the fair when I was younger, but they've apparently really started to step up checks and stuff recently. I've been to the local fair a few times now, and I think that they're actually quite safe. If anything happened they'd be out of jobs and money, they have to check them over and over. Think about it this way; driving is much more dangerous than fun fairs or theme parks will ever be, yet most of you will get in a car daily!
