Lightwater Valley finished just shy of 340,000 visitors for the 2009 season, which was 25,000 more than they expected and makes it their best season for 12 years. This also eclipses the excellent year they had back in 2003.
The good thing about 2009 is that they haven't needed to discount below a certain level as visitor numbers have been strong throughout. This trend is mirrored across other North Yorkshire attractions due to the buoyant UK tourism industry, but they hope that the installation of the Wild River Rapids also contributed. Likewise, they cut all marketing spend from the Lancashire region this time round, which enabled them to spend a great deal more money across the key Yorkshire and North East regions, so they hope this also had an impact.
Where LWV thought the recession would bite is on catering and retail, but these secondary spends have also been higher than expected and the reduction in catering prices across the site (in line with the Crunch Buster promotion) has had a very positive impact.
To celebrate such a fantastic year, Lightwater Valley are offering 25% off 2010 season tickets if you booked and paid for by December 24th.
