Re: New themeprk for Calais

This sounds quite exciting, 2018 sounds like a short time period though. The plans look different and quite ambitious, I fear it'll be a bit like Rainbow Magicland where they cut budgets and quality of theming to be able to open it on time.

I'm also rather shocked that they're planning on an Intamin wing coaster, have they ridden Baco?

Re: New themeprk for Calais

Well, the ride selection ain't bad and the concept art looks promising. But I really like the topic areas, especially the Steampunk one.

If they have, that'll be why they decided to get one, that is a fab fab coaster.

3 years to do all that? I can't see it myself, it's another Wild Frontier really ;)

What a terrible translation.
Here's what it actually says:
The Calais Park (currently only the project name) will probably cost around €300 million and open in 2018 . The project will be located at the originally envisaged Spylands (which wasn't realized) which makes this realization even unlikelier.

If the park were to be built, it's expected to attract 1.5 million visitors annually. That would make it the French Park with the 5th most visitors (after the two Disney parks, Park Asterix and Futuroscope).
I agree. It'll be interesting to see if it gets off the ground, but the artwork is nice. The info pitchnoir posted is also from last May and the project name has been changed to Heroic Land according to today's post (below).

Is Calais a good place for a theme park?

For me it seems like a place where you just get out of the ferry and then get the hell out of there?

^Exactly. As so many tourists pass through Calais, the aim is to effectively 'catch' them, almost like when shops are placed at the exits of rides, to 'force' you through them.

Calais, the town, is vile... As is the general ferryport area it must be said...

Fortunately, with this on the outskirts of it, means it's slightly better...

As always, concept art gets me excited and this parks looks like the best thing marmite on heavily buttered toast. Looking at the board of directors, they have some fairly serious players so it might be fairly good.

I'm always up for new parks, let's keep an eye on this.

Just had a quick look to see if there were any updates to this. Obviously they are taking thier social media campaign seriously - look at all the amazing photos thier fans have been able to upload... XD

Yeah, there's been literally nothing about this since January. Think it's looking like a bit of a waste of everyone's time really.

The project seems to have been re-awaken. Loads of news websites are posting about it (mostly due to a refugee shelter nearby) and their facebook page has seen some activity. Also their website shows some more artwork now.

Also, these are the coasters (6 of them) that the park is supposedly getting:

1. Journey to the Centre of the Earth, a kiddie coaster similar to the ones that L&T Systems has built. The company is now defunct, but it's Preston and Barbieri that are now selling their models, so I'm guessing them when it comes to a manufacturer.

2. The Land of Elves, side by side Spinning coasters, judging by the layout, they might be Fabbri.

3. Tokyo's Night, looks like a Preston&Barbieri Möbius coaster, similar to the likes of those in Mirabilandia and Dennlys Park.

4. Stellar Propulsion, Intamin accelerator

5. A Flight Above a Nest of Extra Terrestrials, Intamin Wing coaster

Looks really cool so far. I wonder how tall the accelerator will be? It's also cool to see that Intamin is making another wing coaster. Hopefully they fixed the problems Baco had after 9-ish years.

If this happens it will take many years, it looks really big and ambitious. And whilst I have a soft spot for the ride, WHY are Intamin making a sequel to Furius Baco for this park???? They need to work VERY hard at addressing the roughness.
