Parks on the horizon

I didn't know what to title this, so we are going with this, but driving daily to WoF got me thinking, most of the parks I have been too have an iconic look as you get into sight. I have no pictures of this, but examples would be driving to WoF coming over a hill and you just see Mamba in the distance, or SFMM you see the top of the Sky Tower as you go through the hills.

Which parks have you been to have an "iconic" look to them when you are getting near them. If you have pictures that would probably help too.

Nothing beats Cedar Point's (in my opinion)

Couldn't find any pictures, but I love driving towards Thorpe. When you see the first glimpse of stealth, and then collosus etc. :)
I prefer not being able to see inside though, one thing I love about Alton is that you can't see any rides from outside the park, same with asterix.

Cedar Point's has to be one of the best out there.

King's Dominion's isn't bad. There are better angles in which I305 is more prominent, but this is the best picture I could find (photo credit to CF member DropZone99)

Busch Gardens Tampa had an impressive one to me even before they added Sheikra, so I imagine it's only better now.

Of the 49 some I've been to.. CP is tops. It is helped by its location but you can see the WHOLE park from the causeway.. great great shot.

Obviously Alton Towers, because all the rides just dominate the skyline :p [/sarcasm]

Cedar Point wins, hands down. You can literally see almost every ride, and I like how Millennium Force, Dragster, and Power Tower completely dwarf everything else. It also looks gorgeous on the water.

As horrible of a park as La Ronde is, I like how it's located under a bridge, which allows you to see virtually everything in the park from a bird's eye view. On a lesser scale, you also get a good view of Wonderland from the highway that's right next to it, since the road is raise and stuff.

CP is great, but I also really like 6FMM from the northern (less common) approach.

Outside the US, Fuji-Q from the highway is good and you can see Nagashima Spaland from forever away on the train. Mirabilandia in Italy and Port Aventura are pretty good, out of the European parks I've been to.

Cedar Point has the best skyline, but an honorable mention goes to Kings Island, who's skyline has slowly grown over the years with Diamondback and WindSeeker. It is a pretty fantastic sight from the highway, seeing stark contrast between Son of Beast's massive wooden structure vs. other steel coasters in the park.

What's more, the park is often completely dark at night during the off-season. But periodically, Beast's two lift hill flood lights will be on, serving almost as a beacon or lighthouse for all coaster enthusiasts to look forward to next season (all while driving in two feet of snow! ).

Cedar Point obviously.

I agree with King's Island as well. I was driving there a couple years ago and I took a different route than normal and I went down a hill and saw the entire park from a few miles away.

Canada's Wonderland also has a great skyline with Behemoth. You can see it for miles.

Another one I feel is worth mentioning is Six Flags Mexico. It sits on top of a hill, so you're driving down the crazy Mexican highway around buildings and under bridges and all of a sudden you look in front of you, and Superman and Medusa are looming over you. It's a very cool sight.

I have to say Flamingoland for this with as you drive down the road towards the entrance, look left and you can see Kumali and Cliffhanger plus other rides coming into view as you drive on. Pretty cool.

I would have to say Geauga Lake back when it was still open , Kennywood and Waldameer are the most iconic to me. The view driving to Geauga Lake wasn't as good as Cedar Points, but the view from the other side as the sun was setting was just phenomenal. Going to KW is just amazing to me as you get closer you first see Pit Fall, followed by the two hills of Phantoms Revenge and the building housing Exterminator. The other way to get there (from my friend Katie's when she lived in Pittsburgh) was just awe inspiring as you crest the hill and just see everything (which I would assume the site is better now that you have Sky Rocket added into the mix. Waldameer is a new one for me cause I'd only been a handful of times, but driving there and going around a bend and seeing Ravine Flyer II going over the road, its lift hill with the flags on it and its turnaround on the other side of the road is a beauty imo.

Parque de Atracciones as viewed from the top of Madrid is pretty good.

But best I've seen must be Europa Park!

*not a great photo, but it'll do..

Ah yeah I forgot to mention Kennywood, it's pretty cool seeing it from the other side of that river thingy.

Whoever mentioned Geauga Lake, the way I most often approached it from was from the back where Xflight and stuff was so I can't really remember how it looked from another angle.

The train in Madrid goes right past Parque de Atracciones and the place looks absolutely amazing from the train window... It's a shame it's operations aren't quite as good.

I find with any park though, even really **** ones, the first glimpse of any ride I get when travelling to/past one and I get really excited. :)

I like driving past Sea World, down international drive. You get a great view of Kraken from there as it's right alongside. Another one for me is Islands of Adventure. When you're approaching you can see The Hulk and Rockit standing above everything else and now, you get a nice view of the Potter castle too.

I'm the same as Mike though. Any glimpse of a park when I'm traveling towards it, I get excited.

The most vivid memory must've been my first visit to Salou, and seeing Portaventura from my hotel window. We arrived late and in VERY stormy weather, so it was an intense sight, unparalleled to anything I've saw of a park ever before! Thing was; I didn't actually notice the park until I saw a lightning storm, so I decided to watch the lightning, which lead me to find that 300 foot beast stiff in the night sky! Ohh it got me going... :)
