What If Australia's Wonderland Was Still Open?

Scoobert McDoobert

Hi again! If you don't know me, I made that one weird thread about Six Flags still being owned by Warner Brothers. Well, I have decided to take a little break with that project to do this one. Australia's Wonderland has always been a fascinating case to me, as it was made by the same people that made Kings Island, my favorite park. Then, when Paramount bought the Kings Entertainment Company, they decided to not purchase Australia's Wonderland for whatever reason. It seems like they later regretted this because they then conceptualized a Paramount Park for Australia. Then Sunway bought the park and ran it into the ground.
Now, I just wonder what would happen if the park was still open. Personally, the only way I could see it still being open is if Paramount decided to actually purchase the park. This, like the Six Flags one, will have periodic updates, though they will probably be at a faster pace, as this is a singular park, and not a whole chain. I would also like to see other interpretations, as I always love to see those☺️.
(Oh, and if anyone is wondering why this is it's own separate post, it's because it is going to be quite in depth.)

1993

This is the first actual update, and if you read the title, this will be in a year-by-year format. This is so I can account for all changes that would happen to the park in the season, not just new ride additions. Well I've been stalling for long enough, let's begin.
Paramount Communications has just bought six major amusement parks across the globe, one of them being Australia's Wonderland in Eastern Creek, New South Wales, Australia. The new owners have since renamed the park to Paramount Australia's Wonderland. The park did not get any new additions for the 1993 season, but other changes have occurred in almost every area of the park.

International Village

This area, most commonly referred to by it's original name of "Medieval Faire", added a couple of new shops including "Thrills Are Paramount", which would feature merchandise of various Paramount movies and tv shows, along with park specific merchandise. There would also be "Kids Stuff", which would sell Hanna-Barbera merchandise and random toys (probably based on Paramount properties), and the "Busytown Store", which would feature merchandise based off of the book series (this was before Paramount had access to Nickelodeon, so this was the best they had). Other additions include the Paramount Gardens, which basically was a walkthrough garden featuring replica props from various movies, and new meet-and-greet characters, mostly from Star Trek.

The Australian Wildlife Park

The 1993 season would be the last for the area, as it would close after the summer months to be replaced by new additions. All of it was leveled by the end of the offseason.

Hanna-Barbera Land

Not much would change here, aside from the Character House gift shop being rethemed to the Hanna-Barbera Store (obviously selling everything Hanna-Barbera related), and the Flintstones themed snack stand being rethemed to the Busytown Grill. The Hanna-Barbera Theater would feature "The Flintstones Go Hollyrock" as it's main performance, and the Gum Tree puppet theater would be used as a meet-and-greet location. Minor enhancements include all of the food locations featuring kid's menus, the park's logo on the Beastie coaster was changed out for the new Paramount logo, and Busytown characters making appearances.

Transylvania

Ah yes, the most unique area of the park would renovate the old theater in the back of the area into the nice and sleek Paramount Theater, which would feature "Paramount On Ice", basically being an ice show set to movie soundtracks. The park's logo on the Demon was also changed out for the Paramount one.

Goldrush

This western/Australian themed section would receive the Wings restaurant in place of Stockman's BBQ, in which this is surprisingly the first movie themed thing in the park that wasn't just a meet-and-greet. The Gold Nugget Theater would play "Rock The House", and the Sundance Theater would be home to concerts. The only minor change is the change of the park's logo to the Paramount one on The Busch Beast.

The Beach

There are no changes here.

Park-Wide Changes

Alright, so I originally forgot to add this, but all employee nametags were replaced with Paramount ones, employee outfits were changed, and a new music loop would play throughout the park, including movie themes and the same stock music used for those weird Chuck E. Cheese training videos from the same time period (these were the days before theme parks got full orchestras for ride themes. Oh, and yes, at a point the Paramount Parks played that music because I heard it in a couple of old home video tapes at the Paramount Parks).
Well, that was longer than expected, but just expect a larger addition for 1994.

1994

Well, I told you that 1994 was going to have more exciting additions, so let's begin, I guess (as you can tell, I'm not good at writing introductions).

International Village

New for 1994 is Days of Thunder! This attraction is a "Turbo Ride" by Iwerks Entertainment. This attraction would take up some of the former space that the former Australian Wildlife Park sat on. The attraction would have gotten positive reviews, mostly because it was indoors. It was also the park's first movie-based ride.

Hanna-Barbera Land

At the end of the season, The Zodiac closed to be replaced by a new attraction for 1995. The show in the Hanna-Barbera theater that year was "Yogi's Summer Camp Craze", and the Gum Tree Puppet Theater would have the "Kids Karnival" show.

Transylvania

Not much has happened here since the last season. The only thing that happened was that "Paramount On Ice" was reworked into "Paramount On Ice: Lights, Camera, Action".

Goldrush

There are no changes here.

The Beach

There are no changes here as well.
I'm shocked how short this is.

Nice work but I don't think there'd be many on this forum that visited wonderland. I'm an Aussie and never got to experience it.

I have never visited it either. I am not even Australian. I just think that the park seemed neat, and I've always wondered what would have happened to it if it was under better management.

I went in 2002, not too long before it closed - be amusing to see the vision compared to reality when/if we get there! :)

1995

At this point, you know what's going to happen, so here we go.

International Village

Surprisingly, nothing would have happened.

Hanna-Barbera Land

The Gum Tree Puppet Theater would have been renamed Kids Studio, and it would have played the "Hanna-Barbera Rockapalooza" show. If you are wondering what's going on with the Hanna-Barbera Theater, that will be touched on later. In fact, it might be right next.

Nickelodeon Splat City

New for 1995 is this whole themed area dedicated to Nickelodeon. This area was specifically added to advertise the channel in Australia, which I think launched sometime in October. This new area would have taken up some of Hanna-Barbera Land's space, including The Zodiac's former plot. The area's attractions included;
  • Big Rig GS-1: A giant water cannon shaped like an oil derrick that shoots water every 15 minutes
  • Crystal Slime Aerobic Mining Maze: A large soft play structure.
  • Emergency Slime Shower and Slime Pit: A shower that, when it's lever is pulled, sprays green water (slime) from all directions.
  • Gak Kitchen: Where the Gak and slime for shows are made.
  • Green Slime Bowl: This theater, formerly the Hanna-Barbera Theater, now plays Nickelodeon themed shows, with it's first being "Mega Mess-a-Mania".
  • Green Slime Transfer Truck: A truck that featured video screens and various buttons and levers that triggered water effects.
  • Green Slime Zone: A maze made up of pipework that randomly bursts with "slime".

Transylvania

The only change here is that, once again, "Paramount On Ice" was rebranded as "Paramount On Ice: Legends".

Goldrush

At the end of the season, Skyhawk, the Vekoma parachute tower, closed for good to be replaced by a new attraction.

The Beach

There are no changes here.
Well, that was more exciting than just a bunch of rethemed shops, I guess.

1996

Sorry about being away from this thread. The good news is that I'm back, and here's the updates for 1996.

International Village

The "Kids Stuff" store was rebranded as "Animation Station". It still sold basically the same merchandise.

Hanna-Barbera Land

At the end of the season, Scooby's Silly Stix, a play structure, closed for good.

Nickelodeon Splat City

At the end of the season, the Gak Kitchen closed for good.

Transylvania

The only change here is the annual rebranding of "Paramount On Ice". This season, it's called "Paramount On Ice: Blockbusters".

Goldrush

New for 1996 is Drop Zone: Stunt Tower! The ride is a 53-meter (174-foot) tall freefall tower made by Intamin. The attraction proved to be very popular with Wonderland guests, and the ride was the tallest ride in the park at the time.

The Beach

There are no changes here.
Well, that's it for now. 1997 might be more exciting.

1997

I don't really have anything to say here, so let's just begin.

International Village

There are no changes here.

Kidzville

New for 1997 is Kidzville, which is a retheme of Hanna-Barbera Land. There are two brand new attractions, which include:
  • Kidz Construction Company: A children's play area themed to a construction site.
  • Taxi Jam: An oval-shaped E&F Miler kiddie coaster. This is also the first coaster Paramount added to the park.
Some rides have also been rethemed. Here is a list of those rides:
  • The Beastie became Scooby-Doo's Ghoster Coaster (the ride was also repainted blue).
  • Captain Caveman's Clipper became Touché Turtle's Clipper.
  • Dastardly's Flying Circus became Dick Dastardly's Airfield.
  • Dino's Derby became Ranger Smith's Jeep Tours (the Flintstone cars were also replaced with more generic ones).
  • Judy's Jetliners became George Jetson's Spaceport.
  • The Kids Studio theater became the Town Square Theater.
That year, the Town Square Theater played the show, "Scooby-Doo's Magic To Do".

Nickelodeon Splat City

The site of the former Gak Kitchen was replaced by a Rugrats meet-and-greet, introducing the Nicktoons characters to the park. The Green Slime Bowl played the show "More Mega Mess-a-Mania" for the season.

Transylvania

The show in the Paramount Theater for the season is "Retro-ACTIVE".

Goldrush

At the end of the season, the Ampol Antique Autos, an antique car attraction possibly by Arrow Dynamics, closed for good. The Gold Nugget Theater also played "Karaoke Connection" for the season.

The Beach

There are no changes here.
Next year might be a blast!

1998

This might be the biggest year yet, so get ready!

International Village

Days of Thunder is rethemed to the Paramount Action F/X Theater, and it now plays James Bond 007: A License to Thrill. There would also be "The WAY TOO MUCH TV Band", a marching band playing theme songs to various classic TV shows.

Kidzville

This year, the Town Square Theater plays the show "Backyard Circus".

Nickelodeon Splat City

The Green Slime Bowl would play the show "Nicktoons Block Party" for the season.

Transylvania

There are no changes here.

Goldrush

New for 1998 is Volcano, The Blast Coaster! It would be the same as the version at Kings Dominion, volcano and all! The ride would have possible become the most popular ride at the park! That same year, the Golden Nugget Theater would play "Beat Street a go go".

The Beach

There are no changes here.
Next season is going to be a weird one. This is just a heads up.
