Wild Mouse at BPB Closure - R.I.P. 1958-2017

Sadly, I've heard rumors that Wild Mouse will not be operating again at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It's almost been confirmed to be closed for the rest of the season, but it seems like it could be the end for this ride.

I really hope this won't happen and the rumours are false since it's a fun ride and a unique ride for the country, but who knows? Thoughts?

I've heard it is purely having teething problems to being adapted with magnetic brakes etc. Just requires a hefty TLC and testing process, think someone mentioned it in the Icon topic?

Yeah, I'm not registering to that forum. And the rumours have been around for ages. I think there was one already in 2012.

It's not going anywhere anytime soon. Just been having bugs and them wanting to get it back up to running 4 cars again. The magnetic brakes are to ensure the future of the ride, so why spend money when they are not wanting to keep it. Plus it gets them ahead on their winter maintenance.

It was 2012, I remember being worried I would miss out. I rode I in 2013.
I sure hope it never shuts!

One of the staff members confirmed to me when I was there last month that it would be re-opening. Not sure how reliable that is but it re-assured me all the same.

Bump! cubwolf over on TowersStreet has spotted a Facebook post showing that Wild Mouse could actually be gone:

Has the wild mouse been removed?

Just seen a post on FB suggesting the Wild Mouse is no more? I cant say i know the park that well to see if the pictures correct but what a shame if its gone?

A real shame if it is gone, the ride looked really unique, even if it is a Wild Mouse.

Rest in pieces?

Oh **** though. Expecting some sort of backlash to this as I know how many people had an attachment to that ride.

Sigh :(
I got the cred and I remember quite liking it back then, but I can't remember too much of it anymore. Pretty sad, since I was looking forward to re-riding it in one of the coming seasons and I really loved the one I've done in Australia last year.

So, uh... Only 3 wooden mice left worldwide? Shame.

Devastated. Just devastated.
It was so insane. That airtime. I loved it, one of my favourite coasters ever.
I've just only started living in England and was really looking forward to ride it regularly this year but now it's gone?
:(

Also it's terrible to lose such a historically significant and unique ride.

**** Blackpool, seriously. I loved that ride. I know it was probably only a matter of time health and safety-wise before it went but to just ditch it over off-season without the send-off it deserves? Absolutely gutted. Stinks of another - let's get it down quick before anyone can get it listed bull****.

Seriously pissed off right now.
Was so excited about Blackpool getting a decent ride in Icon this year and now they've gone and taken a dump all over it :_(

Does anyone know whether this has anything to do with the H&S related closure last season? Just saying, before you all head down Blackpool Promenade with pitchforks and flaming torches...

As Sue has said, that's ruined my day as well. That was the first coaster I went on at Blackpool and remained my favourite of them - probably my favourite UK wooden coaster as well. Suspect there's some kind of bull**** explanation behind it, but a bit of warning would have nice so we could get our last rides in.
There's a very similar coaster in Sydney, but I don't think I'm going to be able to get there >:C

In the photo track is still visible above the sheds. Would find it highly bizarre if it closed in what would be its 60th year of operation.

Am hoping it's having an extensive rebuild to comply with new safety recommendations.

Be very sad if it was removed!

Such a shame, probably the best ride in the park gone, Icon will probably be better but there's nothing above average there as of now.
Hope it's been salvaged and Knoebels or somewhere buys it.

Wtf? Totally was not expecting this but I guess it's the same people that closed and demolished Southport Pleasureland a decade ago.

Was looking forward to riding it again this summer as well, make me think twice about visiting to ride Icon now - removing a coaster like this is NOT OK
