Efteling| Missie Luminar | Launched Suspended Coaster | 2029

Efteling can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.
When you talk about their fairytales and darkrides, you are 100% right.
Dance Macabre is their first fully themed thrillrides. All other flatrides aren't that great.
And I won't talk about their current coaster lineup. They are all way too short in track length.

Absolutely great to hear that Efteling might finally be installing a world class coaster! 50mil is huge!
However it is at Efteling meaning there is about a 25% chance of it actually being operational on any given day

Not a whole lot to go on from the concept art, but I'm certainly intrigued!

A bit like @Howie, I pretty much trust Efteling to do a great job with the theming, theatrics, and music at this point.

Presumably most of the layout will be indoors?

Hopefully the throughput will be OK.

Merged the two threads together for Efteling's "expansion and new coaster" and "new coaster". This can be the de facto thread for the coaster now, and we'll move over to Construction when that starts.

And around 75 to 80% of the budget will be for theming, sadly.
I expect a short ride with multiple darkrides sections where the train will be stopped.
If you want a ride where that isn't the case, Walibi Holland is two hours down the road.

With the quality of storytelling at Efteling and their tendency to absolutely deliver on building a good attraction with stellar theming, I would, with open arms, accept a shorter ride experience so that the budget can go into some breathtaking scenes that tie everything together.

My standards for this ride are extremely high, but I trust them to clear that bar.

Are they?

Max & Moritz are 2 kiddie coasters
Baron is a dive coaster which are always short
Python is fairly short but was built in the 80s and isn't much shorter than a lot of looping coasters from the 80s and 90s
Joris en de Draak isn't overly short, and there's 2 of them

Guess that leaves Vogel Rok and Vliegende Hollander, and for the latter I'd actually say it's the dark ride section that's too short.

Plus the coasters are more family oriented while still being able to deliver some thrills, it's a good line up. I'm expecting this to be family thrill level with a lot of theming, as it should be.

The press release says it will be their longest coaster with a ride time of 2 minutes.

Yes, but is that including all the darkrides sections where the train will be stopped?
What coaster at Efteling does this description actually fit? Joris, Python, Max & Moritz, Vogel Rok are all continous motion from station dispatch to final brake run. Baron has one show scene before the lift, then it’s the same. Guess that leaves Hollander, but that’s it’s own category of dark ride/coaster hybrid, and the actual coaster section never stops.

It’s one thing to say Efteling’s coasters are often short, but that they prioritize stopping for dark ride scenes over maintaining coaster flow just isn’t true.

Very excited about this new addition. The location will completely change how approaching the park will feel as I imagine we'll be able to see the outdoor track darting through the trees to the right of the entrance building. I look forward to seeing this one come together but at the moment 2029 feels far away, at least we'll probably get good updates directly from the park once construction begins.

It'll be interesting to see how this new coaster type is received in SFMM and Futuroscope when they open. Personally I'm unsure if I'll prefer this seating arrangement over the normal suspended seating but we'll see.

Barring the recent issues with Baron, which largely have been well advertised in advance anyway, I've always thought Efteling's operations have been pretty good.

There is no mention of dark ride elements but equally i'd be very happy if there were considering the quality of Eftelings offerings. Efteling is a park with a heavy focus on storytelling and immersion, that's what people go for.

It's also a launch coaster remember so its not like ride time will be consumed by lift hills.

Imagine if Voltron at Europa had a dark ride scene instead of the turntable element. I doubt many people would be complaining about that.

That turntable is one of my gripes about Voltron. That show room is just a shell compared to the main building housing the ride. I originally thought it was unfinished during opening year (considering many European parks tend to open coasters with unfinished theming), but I don't think it's been touched since has it?

I'm exciting for Efteling. That park gave me that magical feeling that not many other parks offer. Really it was just lacking a truly great coaster. I'm not sure if this one will fill that hole in the lineup, but it's a step in the right direction and excited to see what the theming elements will be.
