[2013]Walibi Belgium: Turbine becomes Psyké Underground!

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

I'm guessing it's something to do with reliability and cost of running? They wouldn't do it just for the sake of it, so the fact they're maybe thinking about it says that it's for a positive impact on the ride.

One of the reasons why Walibi Belgium got on with the re-opening of Turbine was reliability. The park has always stated that if they would re-open Turbine, it must be a sustainable and long-term solution. That's one of the reasons why they scrapped the 'Fabulous' Spinning Coaster. The Gerstlauer trains on Turbine and the LSM-launch system on Turbine are already confirmed!

The park has been working on this re-opening for 5 years, starting in 2007, when the first major problems with Turbine started. Part of that was research for how to keep Turbine running for a long term of at least five years. Second was preparing a plan B if the Turbine project wouldn't succeed.

Anyhow, about Turbine. Some rumors came up concerning the theming for Turbine. It is already confirmed that Turbine will be located in a brand new themed zone, the Fabulous Area, which is said to be themed after Monotowny, a ficticious city in the Walibi comic books. Turbine itself is been told to me themed as a (abandoned) shopping center with several shops and window displays in the rides queue.

Anyway, it seems the whole campagn around Turbine's re-opening is started with the parks New Year wishes on December 31st 2012!

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

If they change the launch system it actually seems a bit pointless as that's the part most people like about these, you get that kick in the back that modern ones don't give.

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

^I agree with you, but most people won't know or care though. If it's the only way to keep the ride going, then fair enough really. Though to be honest it might have been an idea to just scrap it and get something new.

Sorry, I forgot. Walibi don't do new when you can retheme old **** instead and hope nobody will notice.

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

Please tell me they're going to cover the side of that "building" that contains the loop?

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

I like the thought of what they're doing, but the execution isn't brilliant.

To be honest, I don't like the look of this either. Maybe it was because of the fact I expected more of this re-theme? Fact is that I find this theming looks pretty tacky and cheap. I can find more beautiful tags like this in big Belgian cities such as Brussels or Antwerp. However, I'm still curious about the interior theming.

There are also rumors that Walibi Belgium is now going to co-operate with the Walloon TV-show 'Voix de Belgique', the Walloon version of 'The Voice of Belgium'! Not that I find the source of that news reliable.

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

The re-theming seems a bit slapdash at first glance, but regardless of that I'm just glad they're keeping a classic Schwarzkopf running.

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

Today Walibi Belgium announced that the re-opening for Turbine has been delayed for 3 months. Turbine is expected to open mid June.

Theming is ready, rollercoaster is ready to operate, but the park still has to cover the two far end spikes. The park can't start running testrides before they are installed because of the locals.

What can I say...that's Walibi Belgium! Never managed to open a ride on time!

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

June. Hmm, that works for me lol. Thanks for keeping us updated Kristof!

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

Walibi Belgium has released the first teaser for the new Turbine! And I am glad to see it won't be another SoS clone but these funky little things will be a part of the ride! I also think that the thing behind the hole in the paper might have something to do with the special effects on the ride...

Bit cheeky of them to claim it as new attraction!

Presenting old, revamped rides as new rides is...typically Belgium and The Netherlands! Plopsaland De Panne does the same thing with their Dongo's Race (a ride from the late 70's), Bellewaerde Park did it with their Jungle Mission (a ride from the late 70's), Bobbejaanland did it with their Dream Catcher (ride from the mid 80's) and Walibi Holland did it with their replaced Zierer Tivoli and their re-themed Boomerang. I do bother them doing something like that, but it seems that it works to bring new clients to the park...

However, is it wrong to claim Turbine as new as the only thing that is left from the original coaster is the track?
I don't know, but saying it is re-newed would be alot more propper if I have to be honest!

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

Well, doesn't this look fantastic! An old schwarzkopf re-opening. Hurrah!

Oh wait, new trains, hmm, well, I suppose it's acceptable, it's still pretty much the same ride.

Oh wait, LSM launch. Still, closest I'll get to a schwarzy now-a-days.

Oh wait, it's inside.

Yeah, erm, let's not bother.

But seriously, I think the main draw for me, as an enthusiast, would be to try a pure classic, the first ever real launch coaster design. Yet with all the original element stripped away, you're left with essentially a new ride. And that's what it'll be, all except for the steel rails, and to me, that makes it a new ride, that's just a copy of an old one; essentially the same as Vekoma saying "Let's re-launch the corkscrew design"/ They've killed the appeal to me. In terms of the general public, they'll probably love it, 'ooohhh, a classic ride/ooohh! Look a new ride with CRAZY effects and a launch'. It ticks both the boxes I assume but probably fulfills neither, a jack of all (well both) trades, but more than likely, a master of neither.

Re: [2013]Walibi Belgium: The Legend is Back!

And finally, more detailed rumors about the brand new Turbine!

- The official opening for Turbine will be at saturday June 15th 2013

- The construction on the both covering tubes are in progress.

- No new rainbow colored train for Turbine. The new train will be yellow with red accents in a retro style. I have been told they would look alot like the ones on 'Verbolten'?

- Maximum speed for the new Turbine will be 86 kmph.

- Advertising will start at the beginning of June.

- VIP guests for the grand opening from Turbine will be the 28 victims from the bizar 1997 accident, when the train got stuck in the loop upside down. It has been said that already 18 of these victims are already found!

Seriously? What victim of a freaky accident like that would like to go on the same ride *again*? If this is a PR stunt, Walibi Belgium is sure on par with Merlin.
