Adventure Island celebrating a record year

Not a shock tbh.

Southend has been packed this summer and the weekend of the air show we had great weather.

Good for them and it shows there is a life for sea side parks if they are done well.

This is brilliant news, Adventure Island is fast becoming one of the better smaller parks in the UK. They've done extremely well considering the space they've had to work with.

Go Essex! XD

Wait a minute. Does this park use an admission system a bit like BBP used to?

If so, I am not surprised. If you let people walk in for free, it's not really a big deal. Still, it's good to know that a park is going well in these hard times.

Whilst it's true that the 2 million figure is probably total footfall in the park, that's still higher than there's ever been. Even if a percentage of those people didn't buy wristbands, more people did than ever before... So it is a fairly big deal!

Even with no new rides for 2009 (technically Over The Hill was but it opened last year) visitors are up. So when a new thrill ride comes along in due course, the number should rise again.

It's fantastic news for the park.

I have noticed though that they got rid of the pay per ride system and now you have to buy a wrist band even if you just want to go on one ride.

This has stopped us going much this year, infact I have been just the once with Gavin so he could get the coasters and Over the Hill.

I would love to know how they measure people who just walk through the park. I have tbh we have probably walked through it about 5 times this year.

That's absolutely not the case, individual ride tickets are still available, who told you otherwise?

It says at the entrance to each ride how many tickets are required and on the main tariff boards by each ticket office it says something like 'Individual Ride Tickets £1.60 each'...

Obviously wristbands are more prominent on the signs because that's the option most visitors want to go for and it's the better value deal.

Anyway, they are still available, so if you fancy going just to get a quick Rage fix you can still do that!

Sounds good, even if it kinda of is a false number and doesn't indicate total amount of paying guests.. like BPB and that jazz.. ect ect.

But, as long as there is improvement, good on AI.

I wonder what percentage of these 2m visitors have returned to the park?

Well done on AI. As much as it should be celebrated that a nice little seaside park is doing well for itself, it's probably mainly down to the recession, "staycations" and weather than anything the park has done. It's great that AI is in a position to capitalise on that!

Lets hope it encourages them to expand and add a few solid, amazing attractions.

Pleasurewood Hills has also had their busiest year this year, since 2003. And they've put on a pretty good Halloween event this year, so it will probably continue to get better.

Lets hope it encourages them to expand and add a few solid, amazing attractions.

Yeah alot of the people that would have visited this year, probably wont bother going back, unless there are new things to do, so lets hope this good year will encourage the smaller parks to pull their fingers out to get people re-visiting.

That was my first thought, too. If memory serves me correctly, Blackpool had turnstiles, so even people who weren't buying wristbands were counted as they entered the park. People can just walk freely in and out of Adventure Island, so how are they being counted? 2 Million wristband/ride tickets sold maybe? No idea, but just a thought.

Anyway, however it's been counted, an increase in visitor numbers, even if it is temporary, is good news. I thought the place was great for a small, seaside park.
