This will be the last thing I will say on the matter:

Where the <img> did I say its unknown?

Maybe i've misinterpreted you but I thought This:

many people wouldn't have discovered that area

and:

people who prefer to hike may not have been alerted to the beautiful landscapes around that area

were suggesting that without Alton Towers the Peak District wouldn't be known by many people.

Of course people are going to know of it, but Alton Towers will definitely boost tourism in the area.

Yes Alton Towers does boost tourism but there are lots of tourists (if not more) who go to the peak district for the nature and never go to Alton Towers.

The area is widely known for Alton Towers alone

The area is not only known for Alton Towers. Natural beauty also plays a large role.

Why the hell are we saying Alton Towers effects the tourism trade on the Peak District?

They aren't million miles away yes but if people wanna go for the Peak District how would Alton affect them? Please explain this cos it's made me lost...

I'm saying that if Alton Towers didn't exist the tourism in the area wouldn't be affected particularly badly because the Peak District is a large tourist destination.

However pierre is saying that if Alton Towers didn't exist the tourism in the area would be greatly reduced as this is the main reason people visit the area.

I disagree, I think more people visit the area for the Peak District then Alton Towers.

Neither argument has sufficent evidence to support them.
End.

Main roads into Alton and the Peaks are different, i'm not sure they have much effect on each other with regards to the day trippers. I personally love a holiday in the National Parks and have stayed in the south peaks with mind to do Alton and some walks, i can't be alone in this. Think of the families, Mum and Dad want the peaks, kids want the park, the area is ripe for tourism with or without Alton.

I have a few questions about the YourDay DVD.
Now that Corkscrew is gone, how much will it cost to get the full DVD, with 7 rides on? Surely it wont still cost 20 quid? Also, will RMT be added? It was originally planeed to be on it, but the accident happened the day before the films were made, so had to be cut. Will they add it in now? Lastly, will the new ride be added to it when it opens next year? Either way, Rita's will have to be re-done, because the stock footage will show Ug Land as it was in 2006, without the new ride, while the actual footage of you will show it as 2010. Actually, it will have to be re-done for this year so it won't show Corkscrew.

^ Some good points there. I'll email them for you.

...What Pierre blatantly meant was many people wouldn't have discovered the area FOR THEMSELVES and realised they WANTED TO GO THERE FOR OTHER REASONS BESIDE ALTON TOWERS.

I don't quite understand where you got the crap about the peak district and twisted Pierre's words to fit. Is it actually THAT close? I've never seen a single sign for it on the way to Alton. Probably because the Peak District is north of Alton, and I, LIKE THE MAJORITY OF VISITORS come to Alton via the south.

The beauty of the local area is not limited to the Peak district alone. In fact most of the "local" area is just like any other out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere countryside... What is special is that little town of Alton. But like I said, depends where you're driving from. And and since MOST visitors at Alton have Brummie accents, I think you'll find that MOST visitors come from the South.

Oh, and I've got a tourist guide for Staffordshire. You'd never guess what they big up the most! Prooving Pierre's point.

YES. I CAN USE CAPITALS AS WELL. Please, can we use some sort of forum etiquette. Using capitals generally if the internet equivalent of shouting which is rude and unnecessary.

I twisted nobody's words. Maybe I have misunderstood what piere was trying to say. Thats very possible but I am extremely offended that you are suggesting I would do that. I dont know how many ways you can take a comment like this:

The area is widely known for Alton Towers alone

It suggests that people only travel to this area for Alton Towers. When I think that more people travel to the area for the peak district. I dont see how I have 'twisted' anyone's words.

I live in Kent (which is in the south). That does not mean that I do not visit anything north of Alton Towers. The peak district is not far north of and you can easily visit them at anytime from Alton or surrounding villages.

Your right the beauty is not limited to the Peak district. But the peaks are famous for it. Where have you go this idea that people from the south will not visit the Peak District? It is not much further north then Alton Towers.

Oh, and I've got a tourist guide for Staffordshire. You'd never guess what they big up the most! Prooving Pierre's point.

This prooves nothing. A panthlet for london will boast about the london dungeons. That doesn't mean the majority of people traveling to london everyday are going there.

Ok this off topic but not at the same time.

How many of your guys would come to Southend had it not been for Adventure Island? And people knew of Southend before Adventure Island just for a day at the sea side.

Before Adventure Island there was very little in Southend. All the attractions that were at Southend were availble at most seaside towns. The peak district has always had lot of caves, treks, lakes, etc... all which are unique to the area.

Also, your asking a rollercoaster forum, which is likely to be biased.

^ Actually I would think more people enter Alton Towers front entrance each year than walk in the Peak District but what would I know, my Dad is only a hiker.

Also we are talking about the area of "ALTON" not the "Peak District" which is further north. Had Alton Towers not been created no one would have stopped in Alton, do you know why? Because there are no good hills andthere is nice scenery but from what I have seen no walking paths.

Crow, please get down off your high horse you are twisting Pierre's words as we aren't on about the bloody Peak District, we are on about Alton.

May I remind everyone that I am not an aggressor in this and I tried to end this arguement earlier:
Neither argument has sufficent evidence to support them.

I have not twisted Pierre's words because that is how I read them. If I am wrong then please! I beg you to enlighten me and tell me where I have misinterpreted his words.

As far as I can see:
It is my opinion that Alton would be fine without the Towers as there would always be the peak district to pull the tourists in.

Pierre has an opposing opinion.

That is all.

To be honest I feel rather insulted and upset that I have been potrayed as some sort of caniving twister of words.

Oh thats bad  i really like the ug swinger it is very good and fun for little kids I think they are just trying to make it so that it is better than thorpe park with thrill rides which i think is totally wrong they should keep it there :!:

^ The Ug Swinger has just been relocated in Alton and rethemed. Its now in Cloud Cuckoo Land the old Cred Street.

No Alton wouldn't be fine without Alton Towers, the peak district isn't realy anywhere near Alton towers, so Alton will be getting nobody coming for natural beauty. Alton Towers realy put Alton on the map, if Alton Towers wasn't there hardily anybody would have heard of Alton.
MEANING they wouldn't have a good economy, ESPECIALY now...
Plus the people who had heard of Alton and it's mediocra (sp?) beauty wouldn't go there because there a NO footpaths (well maybe oen or two, but still).

As i went through Alton today cause it was a sunday and we went out for dinner, as you do, we saw oblivion popping up above the trees? Thought they werent allowed?

As seen in the picture it is a small driving distance to get to the peak district from Alton.

Big deal Alton is close to the PD what dose it prove nothing more than the park is in a nice area of the UK. Chorley is close to Winter hill and Rivington Pike. It makes no change to what people think so please stop it now its getting to be anoying.

And I don't give a damn what you think so don't bother to bitch at me.
