Alton Towers ride closures

I'm sure it's just theming, but that looks dirty as **** !
Yeah, I think you'll be surprised, a lot of the rusting wasn't actually theming elements. The ride was so close to water effects a lot of the time and hitting them sometimes at a great speed, it was just wear ad tear on the ride itself (that's some of the rust anyway, some of it was intentional).

Sooo wanna bet which ride turns up next in the car park? Lucky dip! (Blade??)

Weird that it's been taken away so neatly, new home possibly?
Or it's cheaper to tear it apart (and sort all the various metals and components) off site, maybe? Or with a specialist? I wouldn't know really.

Towers Enthusiasts have said it's going to Heide Park. I honestly don't know why it would go there even if we knew it was going there.

^They've already got a Top Spin in gross Huss Corner, so at best it'll be stripped for parts I imagine.

^ Most likely, but if it was being stripped for parts wouldn't it of gone too Chessington.

Well, no, not necessarily.

Depends where it's needed more and who actually wanted to pay for it (I don't imagine they're just giving it away even though the parks are in the same group)

Unless you're suggesting it'd be going to Heide to open as a new ride next to their existing one?

Perhaps Alton aren't actually getting rid of it at all and it's being sent off for refurbishment? Or they could only be replacing the actual ride mechanism itself?

What Top Spin opened first out of Ramesis and Heide's one? Also it depends on the wear and tear of both of them.

Actually you could be onto something here didn't they a few years ago put planning permission in for it to be moved to X Sector but it got refused cause it was too loud. Perhaps they could be replacing that part of the mechanism to make it quieter.

Heide's one opened in 1992.

Think you're mistaken here. I don't think they need planning permission for that area of the park since it's covered by a GDO (they didn't actually need to submit plans for Smiler's track for example, but they included it for an example, if I remember correctly?). So there would be no plans to refuse. Unless I've completely missed something?

Ripsaw has been up for removal since they published their Long Term Development Plan a couple of years back. The moving of it to X Sector, to replace Submission, has been nothing more than a fan rumour I thought, with no real evidence to back it up.

It's all but confirmed to be going in my eyes.

Tbh, the last time I rode Ripsaw was, I dunno, 2006? I wonder how many of us thrill ride goons skip it in favour of more exciting rides at Alton Towers. 80%? Maybe more. I don't really care if goes. I only really care if it's going to make way for something better. In which case, I say good riddance.

I don't think anyone cares, Ian. I think people are just interested in where its going out of curiosity, and why. Removing rides costs money, sometimes quite a lot.

I suspect its going to be used for parts.

I'm sad to see it go with it being such an iconic ride in the park even though it wasn't that good... I just hope it's actually replaced by something though as Towers has the worst flat ride like up in the UK! That's saying something when the park is meant to be the UK'S number one theme park.

^Was it really iconic though? I mean, sure, it was around a long time and nice to look at, but I would never stretch as far to say it was iconic in any way.

The only rides at Alton I'd go as far to say are iconic are Corkscrew, Nemesis and Oblivion. Anything else just...isn't.

^I'd agree with that. But I'm not particularly happy seeing it go, because I'm not hopeful for them to add a replacement soon.....
