Ok, that lighting is amazing! Is it a temporary thing?

^I'm sure it's only temporary, anyway I'd be willing to sacrifice a little excitement for the dueling aspect of the ride!

All Eurofighters have a pause before the lift..... and I had completely forgot that the trains *may* duel...

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Just wonder how long the music will last before locals complain like they did with the Oblivion sound.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Do you guys think there is a reason as to why they haven't shown the bit before the first lift-hill?

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Because it's a surprise, and it's also in the dark so you'd not see much anyway. Slim chance there may be a surprise there but I doubt it.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

They were more than happy to give away the surprise of Thirteen on GMTV/Daybreak, so chances are there's nothing going on in there.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

^ Or they learnt from that last time and Alton issued a strict gagging order on it?? Probably nothing though

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

The "surprise" drop and backwards section was the main feature of Th13teen though; without it, there's not much to show or sell.

Smiler has the **** load of inversions, which are more than enough to sell the ride.

Just throwing that out there even though I don't personally think there's anything there worth mentioning either.

Hmmm...am I the only one who's coming down with cage rage? The trains look so industrial - I guess that's the point - but I'm not sure that I like the big, conspicuous grill at the front of each car when it's in action
(and yeah, I can understand why people think the photo's fake. Or it could just be very bad quality)

What if they'd done the opening gate/handrails like Dive Machines have and left the grate off the front of the train?

Jiminy Christmas, I wish I was going to Europe this summer instead of Japan.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

(Watched the Video of The Smiler).
I completely forgot about the supports. I knew the ride would have a lot of head-choppers in the form of track and scenery. I didn't realise the supports will have a role too.

I guess this will be a near-miss twin for Nemesis. Nemesis threatens your feet. Smiler threatens your head. I guess it's in theme with the Smiler...

But did he fart? And if so, what did it smell like?

Quick, someone let Vadge know this has happened! She'll be dying to know.

offride testing footage... Looks like they are operating the slowest it can possibly go... slow chain and slow wheels and low weight!

It really goes very slowly at some points!

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Gerstlauer must have made a design error if it's going that slowly.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Nice hang time going on there, does not look as fast as the on ride the other day but this could be the new train they only put on the other way.

Could not stop laughing at the car wash theming :). Still give it a few months before the theming breaks :(

Still think it looks like it does the same things again and again but it does look fun and tbh not that intense. But never know until you ride it and as said it does not look it was going as fast as it can.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Wardley was there? SHUT THE FRONT DOOR...

To be honest, I think the main reason in which the train is actually slower than before is due to the fact it's running on barely any weight inside the train. I think that may actually be the point of them testing, to check different train weights and the capabilities of running it on minimal capacity.
