What's new

Best Euro-fighter

Of the three I've done, Mystery Mine was certainly the best. It has solid theming, a few good elements, and doesn't try to completely murder you. I also enjoyed Dare Devil Dive if only for the lap bars. The layout was completely forgettable though. Finally, there's SAW which I enjoyed until right after the drop and immelmann then it became a blur of headbanging with a nice airtime hill and dive loop mixed in. I'll also say that Saw's indoor section is miles better than anything else on the other two.

I've done 2 Euro-Fighters, and I'd rank them like this:
  1. Speed - A very underrated ride, in my opinion! That first airtime hill is fab, the forces are great and there was only some slight headbanging in the final helix from my experience! Overall, a great ride! I'd also say that out of the 3 Gerstlauer thrill coasters I've one (The Smiler, Saw and Speed), Speed was the smoothest, despite being the oldest!
  2. Saw: The Ride - Unfortunately, I can't be quite as positive about Saw. On the positive side, the layout is fantastic; probably on par with, if not better than, Speed's! The indoor section is also fab! However, I did not enjoy Saw anywhere near as much as I enjoyed Speed because it was extremely rough when I rode it; far more so than the other two Gerstlauer thrill coasters I've done. It had an awful lot of headbanging and really required some defensive riding in places. I can see why someone would like Saw, and I might well be in a minority who find it rough, but I guess it just wasn't for me.
A bit of a mixed bag, then! If I ranked The Smiler alongside these, it would come out on top; it is just relentless and crazy, and I also don't find it overly rough! Admittedly it's not as smooth as Speed, and it can get a little shaky towards the back, but it's nowhere near as rough as Saw from my experience!

Been on 3 with plans to go on 3 more this year.

Out of the 3 I have been on its actually harder than I thought. I have always loved Mystery Mine but seem to like it less and less the more I ride it. Dare Devil Dive didn't do much for me I only rode it once when I was at SFOG I liked it but it didn't like blow me away. Lastly is Untamed at Canobie which I feel has the opposite issue as Mystery Mine where it started out being whatever but the more I ride it the more I seem to like it so I guess the order how I feel right now is.

1. Untamed - Canobie
2. Mystery Mine - Dollywood
3. Dare Devil Dive - SFOG

Hopefully will get on Tantrum, Hydrus, and the new one at the Meadowlands this year.

Oh no, not this again.

Takabisha - Trains feel different somehow. Nothing offensive about it, actually good fun. A beacon of hope in an otherwise cloudy catalogue.
Saw - I can see how easy it is to catch it on an off day and I even said 'never again' once myself, but experience has fared it well.
Outdoor section is fast paced and reckless, particularly when that block doesn't block and gives you enough ejection to break an Intamin lap bar.
Predator - Rage but cooler.
Rage - S'alright.
Novgorod - Only here for the song and the dark ride section.
Don't like the hardware one single bit, the layout is insultingly uninspired and the praise this thing gets baffles me.
Speed - All about that first hill, then skip.
Typhoon - Whole thing seems a bit off, and not in a good way. That and Bobbejaanland.
Huracan - Nope.

Slightly looking forward to Mystery Mine. I think.

Dare Devil Dive - Generic Eurofighter but cooler.

Speed: No Limits - Oakwood Theme Park - yaayyy giant air time hill.
Mystery Mine - Dollywood - themed / fun / used to be smooth?
Saw - The Ride - Thorpe Park - meh, but not awful.
Dare Devil Dive - Six Flags Over Georgia - Uh, yay lapbars?
SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge - Nickelodeon Universe
Adrenaline Peak - Oaks Amusement Park
Hydrus - Casino Pier
Untamed - Canobie Lake Park - if only it had the lapbar trains :\

Saw a very closed Rage at Adventure Island... and uh, I plan on getting Tantrum and TMNT Shellraiser later this year

1. Dare Devil Dive
2. Mystery Mine

Even though Impulse is a Zierer creation, I still think it’s practically a Euro-Fighter... if it was included on this list, Impulse would easily be #1.

Unfortunately, I rerode Speed today and I liked it almost as little as Saw. I think my opinions of Gerstlauer Euro-Fighters as a ride type seem to be going downhill somewhat as I get older. However, I'll say that Speed's airtime hill is absolutely fantastic! So for me at the moment, it still probably goes:
  1. Speed
  2. Saw: The Ride
But the gap is far smaller than it previously was.

I’ve done a few of these now, might as well add to the list!

1. Fluch von Novgorod, Hansa Park - great launch, well themed, and smooth!
2. Mystery Mine, Dollywood - I’ve seen a lot of hate for this before but I really liked it
3. Abyss, Adventure World - a complete Saw rip off but much more comfortable!
4. Saw the ride, Thorpe Park - would have been higher up previously but... ouch
5. Typhoon, Bobbejaanland - not actually that bad, shame it looks like a fairground ride though!
6. Rage, Adventure Island - forgettable...

Ooooh another list thread!

  1. Dare Devil Dive - legit smoothest coaster I've ever been on. Not sure how or why, but its pacing and coach design are likely the factors that led to it being such a great ride in my experience.
  2. Tantrum - the new coaches with lap bar restraints offer quite a noticeable improvement in rider comfort. The ride itself was decent, but most importantly it was comfortable.
  3. Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge - I rode this years ago during a layover in Minneapolis. I don't recall any headbanging or roughness that I experienced on the rides rounding off my list, but that is likely because I was a much smaller human back then.
  4. Untamed - I thought Untamed at Canobie had a pretty thrilling layout and I could feel that the track itself was smooth, but the first gen coaches just weren't cut out for a lot of the transitions. Fortunately, Guerstlauer has added a ton of refinements to their coaches over the years such that their new rides (Tantrum) are much more enjoyable.
  5. Mystery Mine - I appreciate the concept that the park was going for, but its execution is unfortunately terrible due to those damn first gen coaches.

I'll have to check back in a few months as I'll be riding Iron Shark and hopefully Shellraiser later this year.

Not entirely sure what defines a Eurofighter... I mean, how come Anubis isn't one, and is simply classed as a launch coaster? Novgorod has a launch too, but that's still a Eurofighter? What gives?
Anyways, according to the database I've only ridden 3, and they are:

1. Novgorod. That launch! :)
2. Saw. Theming. Indoor bit.
3. Speed. Hill.

@Howie I think it's considered a Eurofighter if it has a vertical lift hill and a beyond-vertical drop as well as a launch, which Novgorod does and Anubis doesn't. I think there's also a Eurofighter-specific car design in the vast majority of cases, although rides such as Huracan at Belantis and Dare Devil Dive at SFOG have the same car design as Anubis, which makes it a bit confusing.

I think that's it, anyway; could anyone with more knowledge than me clarify?

Could've sworn I'd posted in this topic, which made me wonder if there was an older one, so I searched and found three! :D

None of which I've posted in, so here's my rankings:

1. Saw - love the theming and layout, ride is a little rough but bearable.
2. Dare Devil Dive - only ridden it once but the layout is cool and the lapbars really help.
3. Speed - great airtime hill but otherwise ropey.
4. Mystery Mine - great theming but more like a dark ride for the most part. Terrible pacing, rough and generally disappointing.
5. Rage - pink but otherwise unremarkable. Don't remember it being too rough.
6. Untamed - Rage but rougher. Nice station though!
7. Typhoon - ****e :)

The designs seen on Dare Devil Dive & Huracan are the 2nd-generation Euro Fighter trains, whereas the lap bar designs seen on Iron Shark, Tantrum, Adrenaline Peak, Krater and Hydrus are 3rd generation Euro Fighter trains. A Euro-Fighter was designed for smaller parks with less worries about capacity in mind, whereas the Infinity was designed for larger parks that wanted a Euro-Fighter but were wary of the lower throughput.

Ah right, thanks for the clarification @Kw6sTheater!

  1. Dare Devil Dive
  2. Tantrum
  3. Iron Shark
  4. Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge
  5. Untamed
  6. Mystery Mine

Tantrum was smoother (newer) than Iron Shark, but by no means was Iron Shark a bad ride.

Monster is the biggest and best of the Eurofighters and Eurofighter style Infinity coasters I've ridden yet. The drop is tall enough to avoid getting thrown forward and stuck hunched over in the pullout and all the elements are exotic and refreshing. It won't absolutely blow your mind, but it's a very fun ride and makes the trek to Adventureland feel worth it.

Ridden a few. All of these are very close and I'd rate them all as OK but not amazing. Fine support rides but not one i'd go to a park to specifically ride.

1. Abyss - Saw but smoother and without the horrible transitions. Seems they took Saw and learnt from their mistakes.
2.. Dare Devil Dive - Enjoyed this one. Surprisingly smooth with some interesting inversions
3. Speed - Only just rode this but was pleasently surprised that it rode so well, couple of jerks on the big turn but otherwise fine
4. Spongebob - A fine enough ride that felt like a slightly better version of the 3 below
5. Rage, Predator, Falcon - Standard layout and all much of a muchness, fine rides but not brilliant
6. Saw - Still not truely awful but it is rattly and jerky throughout. Never liked the IP which didnt help
