Blackpool Central Leisure Development- Announcement Imminent

The article shows a Zamperla Motocoaster as the picture for the Arcade/Thrill area, wonder what else could be in there.

Blackpool Council claiming it's "the world’s first multimedia exhibition exploring extraterrestrial influences following on from the Chariots of the Gods theme" when it's not even the first one in Blackpool!

Thought the only coaster shot was from the simulator.
As it looks like this isn't fully funded yet, and construction doesn't look like starting soon, I won't be holding my breath.
I remember Zeri coming to Accrington!

And also, there's a whole load of crap out there that the UK hasn't got yet, so the "first in the UK" claim could literally be anything. Could be a Togo stand-up. Or a Zacspin. Or a Screaming Squirrel.
So yeah, I'm in the not-that-arsed camp about this one.

(pedantic warning) That's a Golden Horse moto coaster and that is literally just a picture of Wanda Nanjing that they seem to have used for artwork.

All good. I didnt recognize the park (even with yours and Gavins extensive photos/news/trip reports), but recognized a familiar-ish looking layout in the pic.

This is literally just a reimagining of the old Casino bid that went down the ****ter - I'll be happy when it's done, but this is just one of a huge list of projects that have so far not materialised in the resort.

Took those screenshots from the Blackpool Council Facebook Promo video. Seems to show a standard sit-down coaster (Vekoma Junior?) and what appears to be a Mack Powered Suspended thing. Would be fantastic if both got built.

Does anyone know what buildings are currently on the proposed site of the project? Also, by looking at the concept art, what company do you think will be manufacturing the flying theatre?

And I'll put money on it that this will open before the London resort.

The Merlin Midways.

The funny thing is in my opinion is that they are marketing it as "The UK's first flying theatre" but isn't expected to open until 2024 and Legoland Windsor is due to get one by 2021 as part of the Lego Movie World.

And what is that IP? I've literally never heard of it before nor can I be arsed to find out what it is though. The development seems cool for the town but I can't help but think this is a bit disjointed?

The concept art leaked yesterday was the whole Central car park to the prom and incorporated SeaLife and Madame Tussauds. The artwork released today shows those intact, still with the dividing road between the Merlin stuff and "Central Market" so the only things being knocked down are the police station, some toilets and a tatty street market.

Chariots of the Gods was a big thing in the 70s (like Blackpool!) in which the author Erik Von Daniken declared alien civilizations had built the pyramids, aztec cities, Atlantis, etc. All bunkum, of course, but people believed it at the time and for a brief period a few years back there was an "multi media experience" devoted to this sort of thing on the Prom - including a helicopter in a pyramid for some reason. I think this is now where the Star Trek exhibition was.

Hmmm I mean, we’ll see.

These ideas pop up every now and then in various towns, I’m yet to see one actually materialise.

Labour cancelled the casino. The Tories cancelled the University (which would have been located on the old Mecca site on Central Drive) so fingers crossed for this. The area and the town always need a boost after years of kickings, sometimes self-inflicted, but often coming from above. In fact, the very site this is to be built on stems from the disastrous decision to close Blackpool Central in the 60s, which I think was part of Beeching's misguided closures.

Few have got much nice to say about my hometown on here or anywhere these days, but i honestly believe a somewhat rundown faded Lancs Vegas beats a Barratt home, Ford Focus in the drive hellhole in the home counties any day of the week. Blackpool is supposed to be working class; it wasn't posh in the 80s when I was growing up but it was busy and prosperous enough. If it can get visitors coming in for new reasons that would be great.

Beeching didn't cut the station, Lancashire did!
Beeching selected Blackpool North, the combined councellors requested a change to central...to free up precious central land for redevelopment close to the town centre, sending many millions of day trippers on a much longer walk to the prom for many years to come. Back then most people (including me) went to Blackpool on the train, and stayed for a week. That was the money the council was after.

Here we are then...over a dozen town centre plans, and half a century... later, still going round in exactly the same circles.

The council desperately need investment, the town is very poor economically, central government doesnt want to know, so all they can do is chuck up big ideas, hoping somebody with deep pockets believes in it enough.

Might happen, hope it does, but it needs a real coaster!

But wouldn't Pleasure Beach complain? I know all's fair in business and all but I would think BPB after years of promoting and investing in the town would prefer something that doesn't much overlap with what they do.
