Camelot - Closed for good

Wearing my black tie and ordering flowers.

RIP Camelot. May this be a warning to other "fringe" theme parks. Investment, cohesion, positivity and knowing your demographic are key to surviving this industry.

I'm not going to miss Camelot - visited three times - but I look forward to adding a cheap cred to my count when I revisit Lightwater Valley in 2013/14.

I feel sorry for those who have lost their jobs, those who never got the creds and whoever felt attached to the park. I'd probably feel gutted if Paultons, Thorpe or Chessington - parks with a personal sentimental value - folded, but they know what they're doing.

Oh, and blaming the weather, Olympics, etc is weak. Perhaps a child falling from one of the rides and a lack of investment put off visitors.

I'm glad I finally got around to getting it done a few months ago now.

That's all there really is to say on the matter.

Don't really know why they're making excuses for closing it, they came out a few years ago saying that they wanted to close the park and build houses.

I dont have any hope for Knightmare staying in the UK, so lets hope that Whirlwind can find new home locally. And that's it, there really wasn't anything else worth.... talking about. Most of the smaller rides will probably end up down the road at New Pleasureland.

As it's my local park I'm a bit sad about this - I heard the news back in September but hoped it wasn't true. But I had decided this year's trip would be my last for a while, as there was no attempt to even try and keep things fresh or attract new visitors. I get so annoyed reading their excuses when the demise is all their fault.

Gutted for my friends who work there, and will miss the joust and birds of prey shows. Hopefully the Knights will move to Warwick more permanently now.

Is the flume any cop, and is the dragon something that is likely to be able to be dismantled?

The flume is rubbish (just a tight figure-of-8). Not sure what could happen to the dragon as the track is site-specific but it's not too hard to modify. The bigger question is whether it's worth saving - there have been better similar rides built since this was.

To be honest the only ride I hope is saved and located in the UK is Knightmare. I'd rejoice if any of the others were sold for scrap metal.

I find it really sad that the park has now closed for good as I have had alot of great times there as a child. I hope that Nightmare is moved to Lightwater and Whirlwind to Flamingo Land, but it's sad to see a park close.

R.I.P Camelot.

I agree

I was going to go to camelot for the first time in 2013 so i'm a little sad that i just missed out on. Plus i do think the two parks above would suit the coasters

I'm not sure why people are suggesting Flamingoland for the spinner. They moved away from buying second-hand rides years ago and have stayed away from them ever since.

Pleasure Island, on the other hand, are desperate for something "new" of any real significance.

A little gutted I didn't manage to get over there this year as I had a fear that this would happen, we planned to go in our May holiday in between Blackpool and Oakwood, but it was closed.

So I was hoping it would last into next year, but no.

I understand people here say its a crap hole and I don't for 1 second deny that that`s true, but there`s 5 creds there that I won`t be getting.

I'll give them £20 towards their new development (or buy them a nice stainless steel letterbox for the first house they build) in return for letting me go mental on whirlwind with a chainsaw. Anything to stop anyone being able to operate that torture device ever again.

If any rides from Camelot were to go up for sale (and no doubt most will), where could you find them?

Random I know, but one of the management team at Pleasurewood Hills has confirmed that they're looking into the ride sales from Camelot.... I had a quick browse but didn't really find anything.

There are a few sites, for example:

http://www.ridetraders.com/ViewItems.aspx

(You can see Cliffhanger at Blackgang Chine has recently been sold).

To be honest though, I think other parks usually approach a dying park first and grab what's worth buying. It's not very often that known rides get to the point of being put on websites and stuff - parks seem to have a bit of a hidden community when it comes to buying and selling their rides.

Yeah I`d like to hope that Knightmare and Whirlwind could find a new home, but I have a feeling that they will end up demolished.
If they plan is to make the site a housing estate, then I should imagine that any ride that will sold on will be done so shorty or not not at all.

You could be right about Knightmare, it can't be worth much if it was cost effective to drag it half way across the world.
