Cedar Point | "GateKeeper" | B&M Wingrider

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

Surprised? No. DT was on the chopping block for years. I might be a little less excited for another family coaster to be removed for a new thrilling coaster.

As for the parking lot bit, thats where the employees park. If they get rid of it, where will they park? Plus, CP's already cement covered city, so a parking lot coaster wont change much.

Sent while out and about

Pretty sure that holds the record for most pages for a construction topic or something.

I'm sceptical as to if this will be any good, I don't think this is a ride type where the biggest equals the best. Still, I'm intrigued to see what they pull out of the bag.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

I'll be honest, I would be very sad to see Disaster Transport go because I've always had a soft spot for it, but I think I'd happily welcome a B&M wingrider! I hope it's not speculation, obviously.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

DT is one of Cedar Point's more interesting rides... I'll be sad to see it go. I kind of hope it goes somewhere else. Even if it ends up outdoors.

That's the main problem I have with CP, sides Maverick, everything is a boring version of something else. Only super tall, but lacking any quality. Or it's just damn terrible, like Gemini.

Maverick is clearly their best ride by miles, and one of the worlds best coasters, and the public seem to love it too. You'd think that they'd see there's more to building a thrill park than just building really tall after how well that was received?

So I hope they don't just make a tall but ultimately crapper version of what we've seen already with the wing riders, and produce something different, interesting... Or at the very least good. Or even decent. Because their line up is currently whole bunch of hot hair, and then Maverick.

Correction. The front area of the parking lot, all the way past the front entrance to the beginning of the handicapped parking is all "Premiere Parking." Basically, pay $8 on top of the $12 parking fee to park closer to the front.

When I went to CP about 2 weeks ago, DT was not running. Space Spiral was, as I got some pictures from the cabin. Honestly, I am not upset to see either one go. I do enjoy riding SS, but it's just one of those rides I wont miss. DT has been a disaster for many years, if not since the beginning. A new B&M would be amazing, being that the last B&M was Mantis back in 1996.

Whatever it is, I am excited.

There is nothing worse than Thorpe fanboys. Even going over to pointbuzz isn't as bad as Thorpe fanboys and Swarm. Not even close, as the construction thread for this may reach 100 by the end, unlike SW7 which is already at 100.
You are joking, right?

I'm sure the Maverick topic went WELL over 200 pages? I'm adamant it did?

To Maverick's credit, it was a roller coaster two years in the making on construction time.

It will be sad to see DT (and Wildcat) go, simply due to it being coasters that I grew up with. But this is the way of theme parks - all rides have an expiration date. You simply must enjoy them while they are there.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

I've gotta be in the small number of people here who liked Disaster Transport. Never got to see it during its "better" days, but it was fun for some reason. Glad I rode it sixteen billion times last time I was at CP, now.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

The article is very intriguing. Disaster Transport being removed doesn't surprise me, but Space Spiral does. SS has become a symbol on Cedar Point's skyline and it seems like the park wants to keep it around for as long as they possibly can. Maybe it's just getting too old now? It's also interesting how they changed that section of the parking lot to premier parking, even though it's probably just a coincidence.

Are they going to replace the haunt that has been in DT's building for Halloweekends? Where are they going to move all the stuff they're storing in the building?

The timetable also seems really tight, even if Disaster Transport closes early. Ripping down the entire ride, which is larger than White Water Landing, reworking the land, busting up cement, pouring footers, erecting a new ride, and adding the finishing touches before opening day next year seems like a stretch.

This doesn't really explain why SS has to be taken out...hmm.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

My bet is queue area? Since all of them are **** massive there.

I want a real layout, instead of one drawn in paint with a red line.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

One thing Cedar Point does well imo is position their rides. MF looks gorgrous as you look across the water from the small harbour (US: harbor) in Sandusky. TTD dominates the skyline (obviously) and is virtually bang-centre of the park. Corkscrew's corkscrew element is well positioned so you can look right through it as you walk along the path (US: midway).

If the layout of this suspected coaster is true, a meaty wing coaster train flying above the main entrance would create a stunning visiual impact for guests entering the park.

Re: Cedar Point to remove DT and SS for 2013 B&M Wingrider

Limited space?

I mean the only way Cedar Point can expand is into the parking lot without stacking rides on top of each other, or removing them, which they are still doing. I know fanboys want the entire peninsula to be the park, with shuttles running over from the mainland, but that would just be more massive...and 20 years down the road.

^ Considering that image above was probably edited on MS paint, I wouldn't have thought so.

^ What? You mean it won't start with a loop like that does? My heart is shot down in flames :(
