Chessington World of Adventures | Unknown | Intamin Unknown | 2027

If Chessington wants to go all-in on IP, I noticed a certain world missing from the Universal UK plans. Mario visited Chessington first anyway ;)

Here is a look at all the construction happening at Chessington.

Groundwork has taken place with foundations now going in for the Paw Patrol coaster, still find it odd seeing Mexicana flattened.

Work on Wild Asia has ramped up with hardly much of the land left with just the water fountain, tree, temple of mayhem left and some theming elements left.

Interesting that Paultons and Chessington have a busy next few years kind of mirroring one another, i think Paultons has the better 2026 by quite a way but as we dont know whats exactly coming for 2027 Chessington could have a better addition. Then in the future Paultons are looking at a hotel while Chessington a water park.

And Wild Asia is no more, nothing is left of the land, buildings, rides and the entrance structure are all gone.

I am happy to see Chessington getting a lot of investment, it is sad to see some more of the areas i grew up with go but while im not fussed with Paw Patrol i hope they do a good job with the Minecraft land.

A lot of work has taken place since the last update and the first new ride has arrived at Chessington for their Paw Patrol area.

Definitely isn’t a new development but didn’t know where else to put it.

Some awesome Vampire construction pictures have appeared on Instagram over last few days on Chessington Archive.

Don't know if it's worth setting up a new thread or transforming this one into focusing on this, but Minecraft World has been officially announced for next year:

The announcement says it will feature a "world first roller coaster". Given that it'll likely be an Intamin multi-dimension coaster (given the plans and art shown), I expect this will be some not yet seen trick track element.

The world's first could very well be "world's first Minecraft-themed roller coaster" or something along those lines given previous Merlin marketing tactics!

The overhead layout plan we saw didn't seem to reveal anything overly out-there, but I guess we never know what Intamin might have in store!

In the announcement video they specifically state it's "the world's first Minecraft rollercoaster".

I do recall on the plans there was some tenuous other world's first like "first multi diagonal indoor launch".

I hope this coaster has more coaster than their last new one. Jumanji, or as I assume they called it behind the scenes - "sod it that'll do". Following that trajectory I'm expecting this one to be a launch or a drop straight into the brake run.

Contrary to the planning application, it is now alleged (apparently announced somewhere, but I'm unsure of the source) that this will have a £50m budget, which is absolutely enormous by UK Merlin standards.

The largest publicly confirmed budget I can remember for a Merlin installation previously is £18m for Swarm and Smiler. They did confirm that Derren Brown was "Thorpe Park's most expensive investment ever" without specifying a price tag, and I seem to remember £30m being the rumoured budget for that, but £50m beats even that quite comfortably!

Possibly worth whipping out the inflation calculator on that; £30m in 2015 would be around £42m today. Which still isn't 50, but it does make that figure sound a bit more believable. Then again, I have no idea how they managed to spend 30 on DBGT...

This is starting to feel like a bit of a make-or-break project for Chessington, so if this is true it's good to know it has more than enough budget behind it to make it a success. Just hoping it has enough creativity and longevity behind it too.

It's also worth noting that £30m was never explicitly confirmed for DBGT, merely strongly rumoured; they simply said "Thorpe's most expensive ever", which £19m or £21m (I heard both £18m and £20m for Swarm) would technically have satisfied at the time!
