Coaster/park industry news articles

Time for a thread resurrection. An interesting article (in German, but easily translated) on the issues German park managers face post-pandemic. Although it's focused on the new law restricting foreign hires, it includes figures and graphics on European park attendance and values. I.E. I wasn't aware that Legoland Winsor is Europe's 2nd most valuable theme park or that Miniatur Wunderland is the 2nd most popular attraction among foreign travelers in Germany behind Europa Park and ahead of Phantasialand.

A man will begin an attempt to ride every rollercoaster in the UK in the space of just over two weeks.

From here;

"every" / 120 though? Doesn't sound right ;)

Ahh - he is self-spiting

He said his map includes every rollercoaster classed as a thrill or extreme, to avoid family and children's rides

I get 196 if I don't add the "roller coaster" filter (i.e. including powered and mountain coasters): https://rcdb.com/r.htm?st=93&ol=26828&ot=2

But if you filter out to only Extreme and Thrill, it's only 64 coasters. So only actually going to ride a third of the coasters in the country...

And only 30 of the 86 parks, by my quick count.

Much less interesting... sorry Dean.

Aren't there one or two decent wooden coasters in the UK too that are at those parks you can only go to if you have kids? I'd self spite those at least 😁

I think it's only Antelope at Gulliver's Warrington - which RCDB class as "Family" anyway so he's in the clear... ;)

I mean it gets worse...

Especially when this exists....

Honestly what an easy number

I know plenty of people have negative reactions to this, with loads of people having 'bested' that record previously (I know I have). But the thing I don't understand is how GWR can call that a record when they also have a record for 'Most roller coasters ridden in 24 hours', and that stands at 74: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.co...coaster-records-for-every-thrill-seeke-439990

Surely for them to turn it into a valid record, the logical minimum for them to create the record for most coasters in a week would have to be 75?

It just embarrassing all round ; embarrassing for GWR to not realise that they already have that record covered and extra embarrassing for the chap involved as if he had any real goon-credentials he would have known that this is all nonsense - poor show from any of the news reports quoting it all too.

Yes I realise this is all just PR-nonsense, but it just offends me far too greatly*!

* - which is itself pretty embarrassing 🤣
