Disneyland Paris to celebrate 20 years

peep

CF Legend
Next year the resort turns 20! The celebrations will begin on April 1st and is scheduled to finish in late September. In the run up to this they have been doing major refurbs on the majority of the resort. My favorite update so far has to be the epic new lighting for Rock 'n' Rollercoaster in which each train, each with a different soundtrack, has it's own unique light show.

Other changes for the celebration include an upgrade for the current parade, a new meet and greet for Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland (should actually be awesome), longer opening hours and a brand new night-time show called Dreams.

Dreams has been designed by the guy who created Fantasmic and World of Colour so we can expect something rather special for this new show. It'll incorporate special lighting, fountains and pyrotechnics. A lot of major work is currently taking place in Central Plaza (the hub in front of the castle).

No new attractions I'm afraid but it should still be an interesting year with still the slight hope that maybe one day we'll see the Ratatouille attraction built in the Studios.

I can't believe its been 10 years since I first went to Disneyland Paris.

Hopefully I can some how get the money together to go between April and September

Oh good, you're offering to pay, excellent, I can do anytime after June...

Oh, yay, they couldn't give us a proper show like Fantasmic or World of Colour so they're putting fountains in front of the Castle...

Not fair, the California resort gets TWO. DLRP needs Fantasmic so much, it would be amazing. Could totally do it on the river by BTMR. Obviously they won't cause it's a dump.

Urgh, DLRP. Why do you still exist <//3 Seriously, none of this impresses compared to what the other Disney parks do on even regular occasions, let alone anniversaries. No wonder it's by FAR the weakest of them all.

Shocked it's 20 years old means I was 18 when I 1st went!

I was hoping they would sort out Space Mountain but nope :(

How do we see the park doing over the next 20 years? I hope they add new attractions to the main park.

Personally I feel Fantasmic is overrated. Saw it DW, and wasn't that entertaining. The IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth show at EPCOT is way better.

Will they be decorating the castle like they did for the 50 year anniversary at DW?

I bloody well hope not, when I 1st went to dw I saw the castle as a cake and it ruined my day. If you goto Disney you want the castle.

Wrong.

I agree with Ben, seems a bit...........lame for a big anniversary?

Dlp needs a night show and Fantasmic would work well, but I would worry about then ruining it :(

DLP though does not have the space for it and I doubt they would want to invest in it.

Illuminations is so old now and only works at Epcot due to all the lands, the story won't work in another park.

^ There were some rumours floating around about the studios getting world of Colour, pointing towards them building a lagoon behind ToT, on the large space they have there for expansion.

As for the announcement about the 20th birthday celebrations.. its all very underwhelming. The parks won't be able to ride on Toy Story Land for very much longer without further proper investment, and this announcement has nothing on Ratatouille, the PotC upgrade, or a Star Tours 2 (Tokyo Disney has just announced their upgrade for that).

I think I personally just have a jealousy over the other resorts, purely for the amount of investment that is going into them, while Paris is just left to rot.

Remember though Paris is run really different to the other parks. The French government don't pump money into and neither do Disney, the park is run by business people so all money has to be accounted for and Disney rides have to be paid for.

This is why pirates has not been changed and why the 3rd park had not happened.

I hope Disney take the park over and invest.

While that is true though, it is the most visited park in europe by a LONG shot, with 12,740,00 visitors in 2009, compared to the next highest, Europa Parks 4,250,000. And thats just the visitors to Disneyland Parc, the studios had 2,655,000 visitors.

I can understand Disneys reluctance, as they are already hugely stretched out with all the china/california/florida investment at the minute to be able to fix the studios in the same way that California Adventure is being fixed, but with that many people coming through the gates each year, they can't really justify such little investment.

In terms of a third park, I can't see that happening any time soon, as they have the turd of the studios to sort out first.

Which no matter what they try and do they cannot. But look at the figures in Orlando the magic kingdom has far more visitors than the other Disney parks so it's no different in Paris

I was planning on visiting this year for my 21st but when we were looking at the prices for just a few days, it made Florida a better option and that was for nearly two weeks.

Paris does kinda feel like the stepchild that doesn't get much done to it. I went around when the Studios had just opened and we spent barely half a day there before going back to the main park.

That is the problem with DLP 2 weeks in Orlando works out to be better value than 3 days at DLP. If they sorted their prices out more people would go. A guy at work was going to take his family and it worked out for 4 of them for 2 nights over £1500 and that was not even staying at a good hotel. With the offers at Orlando he can go for 2 weeks for £1800 so thats where he is now going.

And if anything I got more from going to Orlando without even including the non-Disney parks.

I've always felt that because of the kids go free offers the price for adults goes up. Trying to go as pretty much an all adult party which is what we would have been was costing us a fortune.

I'm a bit bored of bashing DLP to be honest, so I'm actually going to defend them on this.

The 20th Anniversary really isn't that big of a deal. It's a good excuse for a bit of a publicity drive, but I think people are expecting too much. Ok, so it's their fault for drawing attention to it, but if they hadn't, would anyone be really complaining? I mean other than the same old things we always complain about?

Wait for the 25th Anniversary. That's when the proper Disney parks made a big deal about things.

You clearly haven't been to California.

Interesting how DLRP is celebrating 20 and WDW didn't turn a blind eye to 40. That's the American marketing for you.

Personally this looks alright. Nightime show at those things to the right of Phatom Manor would've been ace.

Knowing Paris this will stop at the end of August anyway.
