Dubailand is back?

^Agreed. It has absolutely no bearing on the topic. I'm not saying that working conditions for those guys aren't ****, but you can't look at the suicide of one person as proof of that.

The latest local suicide I've read about in the local paper was a woman who works in a local Tesco. She might have **** ing hated Tesco; we don't know, but nobody is going to lay the blame there.

a new interresting post to Dubailand

The Marvel Project is progressing. The owners have already arranged financing from local banks. If you drive past the area at night you can see (and hear) contruction noises, which had been absent from the site for the longest time.

They are working on the project phases in parallel. All the theme rides and attractions are being developed off shore (US and China) and only the building construction is taking place in Dubai. Once the main structure is complete (expected to be finished by June 2013) they will move in the entertainment rides and attractions and have them assembled on site.

The whole theme park (Marvel Adventureland) is expected to be indoor and air conditioned so expect to have an all year around attendance. There are also the ususal Dubai-esque claims e.g. the entire interior of the "dome" covering the themes park is supposed to be lined with LCD screens which can display the pictures of the outside enviroment or display other spectacular things.

The remaining projects are on a wait and watch position mostly waiting to watch how this Marvel Theme Park performs. The reason this project got off the ground before the others is because the project is owned by one of the rich Dubai families which are still doing better than most and had the financial clout to continue with the project.

The Marvel Park will launch it is not a question of "If" but "When". And if the sucess factor is high you can surely expect to see the remaining projects (Universal Studios, Legoland etc) kick into high gear.

Dubai is just over-spending and hoping they will become some leader in top-notch luxury. Sure it's probably the most brilliantly stunning city, but numbers don't lie. They're simply expecting too much, Ferrari World struggled just to get 100,000 visitors. It's simply too much too fast. Paris, London, Rio etc. Didn't just suddenly gain tourism, it takes time to spread the word.

^ BUT, it's a catch 22 situation; To spread the word and entice more people, you need larger/more tourist pulls and attractions. So, by saying they're moving too quick, what are they meant to do? Go slow and build one attraction per 5 years and hope that in the future more people will start to realise that Dubai exists? (which is a silly point you made, if some people don't know about Dubai, they're idiots, or live in the **** Congo).

Dubai does seem to be coming back to its old self again, with it's economy starting to boom again. House price's have gone up 23% and Emaar have been doing extremely well. 2013 looks to be the year were Dubai will start booming again, so I wouldnt rule this out anymore.

The construction site is still just a desert. They did start making adjustments to the land in 2009 I think, but nothing since.

Things may well be picking up over there, but considering everything could just fall flat on its arse again, I doubt the investors will be queuing up just yet.

I have give up on Dubailand, but not Dubai. Also Universal is constucting a new park in Dubai, will try and find some pics of it.
