What's new

English Football Season 2011/12

^^
Feel like this is the dreadful, dreadful FA trying to cover their backs here :p
Pierre's... almost certainly right, but I'm refusing to accept it, because that would mean going back on the amount of time I spent screaming abuse at the TV yesterday evening!

In both photos the ball is equal with Assou-Ekotto's boot, which is on the line & therefore the entire ball is not across the line. As I said inconclusive.
Pierre said:
...anyone who tries to say if it had remained 1-0 at this point it would have been a whole different ball game is clutching at straws. Spurs were outclassed.
I agree.

The ball is not over the line. At all. Several angles shown paralel to the goal during the game showed this.

Still pictures, especially from that angle, add an angle of perspective that skew the placement of the ball.

And this is from an Arsenal fan. Who expected to lose tonight btw. Always the way with us. Said it ages ago, we're better chasing than being chased. Even when we pulled the 10 points on Spurs I still fancied them to pip us to 3rd. Still do.

Harry shouldn't have taken van der Vaart off IMO. He has been the rock for Spurs this season, and we we're stil in the game up until he was taken off.

And LOL at Wigan, beating Man U and Arsenal! But I agree with Pierre, they dont derserve to be in the Prem.

Yeah... so I take back half the things I said in the week.
This is painfully embarassing stuff...

Pretty shoddy end to the season for Norwich. But at least its going to be pretty exciting towards the bottom, where are they all pulling these wins from?! (except Wolves, obviously)

That was the most ridiculously intense ending to a Premier League season I can ever remember!!! All in all I'm very happy with the way things turned out. Only thing that could have made it better is if van Persie could have scored in this last game. I'm an Arsenal fan so third is looking pretty good with Man City being a ridiculous powerhouse this season and Man U being Man U. Even though I'm not a fan, I'm glad to see a new face finishing at the top of the table. Now we've just got Champions League left and that should be mighty exciting!

Why would you be happy to see Man City win it? They basically bought the title, its not right and shouldn't be like that.

While I'm not a big supporter of "buying a title" as you put it, I am a supporter of teams that haven't won in a while and I'm sick of always seeing Man U at the top. It's refreshing to me and if you don't agree...well that's fine with me. Plus I enjoyed the intensity of all of the games going on at the same time leading up to an epic finale. I would find it hard to deny that this was a thrilling end to the season.

Why are people mad that Man City bought the title? Everybody buys the title. Blackburn, Chelsea, even Man Utd, while not building a squad over one season, are still 'buying' the title with ridiculous wages they pay their players.

Money makes the world go round. And wins Premier League titles.

^Very true.

To segue a bit, being an Arsenal fan I am concerned with the rumors of van Persie possibly moving to a team that will "win a title". I think if he stays, with the addition of Podolski, Arsenal truly has a chance to snatch the Premier League title. Keeping my fingers crossed!

^ Spoken like a true Arsenal fan, completely deluded unfortunately. Unless Arsenal make a number of big signings they won't have a chance of winning the title next season.

Podolskis a good start, but they need much more than that.

Arsenal need a better back 4 in depth, as that's the weakness right there!
Man City won the title fair and square, by winning games, regardless of how much money they spent. If they want to do it, let them, if their owner pulls out then it's a financial oblivion for them! It was an exhilarating end to the season and I found it fantastic, Aguero is a superb player, and one of the signings of the season IMO.

What's peoples thoughts on the Euro 2012 England squad? I'm not happy with not including Micah Richards over Glen Johnson. Same with Stewart Downing, wtf, he's been poor all season!

Sigh.

I'm a true Arsenal fan.

I was **** elated with 3rd place. Not arsed about 7 years without a trophy. Know we'll never compete with City at the top of the league. And am quite content with Champions League football year in year out.

Don't tar us all with the same brush.

Ta

I'm with Smithy, third is great and better than I was expecting. We definitely have too many cynics responding to this thread ;-)

As for the English National team, I don't have much to comment on it. Some solid names in there so I'm sure it will be a solid team...unless...haha, well I probably shouldn't smack talk the English team since I'm an American (I don't have much to fall back on :p)

Everybody buys the title. Blackburn, Chelsea, even Man Utd, while not building a squad over one season, are still 'buying' the title with ridiculous wages they pay their players.

I agree about Chelsea, but they learnt their lesson, and had to calm down.

But the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd earnt their success, they earnt their right to be able to buy expensive players, due to being massive, successful clubs. I agree that its good to see someone else win it, but its just not how the game should be played.

Granted, if some rich bugger done that at Norwich, I'd be celebrating too! :p

But like Dave said, Man City could find themselves in big trouble one day. Their wage bill is over £2m a week, plus the excessive fees they pay for people (£250m they were willing to pay for Kaka!). They are just not a big enough club to be able to carry on like that. I know the owners are rich as, but surely there's got to be a point where they cant keep spending the ridiculous amounts they do, because they'll never see a return on that. Their fanbase just isn't big enough.

So who's going to Liverpool then?

I agree actually, I think much like certain oil rich Arabic nations themselves, Man City will find they've lived beyond their means and crash and burn.

Hopefully. They're gross. So are Man U though. Chelsea <3

They're all as bad as each other tbh...

A shame Daglish left/got sacked, I was looking forward to them crashing down even further next year...
