Europa Park | Piraten in Batavia Rebuild | 2020

Maybe they'll do a self reffentional joke about the fire? I am not sure if it's too soon, probably is... Yeah they won't do it, but I wish they would.

Well the animatronic in the station used to say "Batavia is burning", so that may well be brought back!

Europa Park's Facebook page have shared some pictures showing that work to rebuild the Scandinavian area and Piraten dark ride has begun!

At EAS it was confirmed the new Piraten in Batavia will use the same ride system. They are recreating it based off the original plans however there will be some little changes, and a different take on the story. Animatronics will be used again, however new media content will also be integrated. Europa expect it to open around mid 2020.

Today the Europa Park newsletter has shared a first look at concept art of the new exterior.
The biggest change is above the ride sign in the front of the building is a large stained glass window with the logo of the 'Adventure Club of Europe' - so it will be tied into the new overarching ACE storyline which was started with Voletarium in 2017 and will continue next year with their water park Rulantica.

The article also mentions that rather than exactly recreate the ride's old figures they will use new modern technology. There will be over 100 animatronics in the new Piraten.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the area and ride return - it would have be easy to throw in a new concept and do away with the old ride, but bringing it back with a new twist is exactly the right thing to do.

My only hope is that there isn't a VR headset in sight.

It's wonderful to me that they've got to work on this so quickly. Revamping this area likely wasn't on the programme for years, and they're already pushing out lovely looking concept art and new rides and all that.

Fair play, Europa. Respect.

Another update from EP showing how the first buildings are starting to become recognisable.

They also recently confirmed on EP-Talk that:
- The Fjord rafting's tunnel will be themed like a troll house
- Vineta will not be rebuilt
- There will be a new Scandinavian restaurant
- The Mack Bank preview centre will be showing off this year some details of the new Piraten in Batavia (expected to open Winter 2020)
- and most intriguingly: the basement of the Scandinavian area will have a surprise in it. But the park won't reveal this until closer to the time.

Europa-Park Fans have noticed the following image which was part of a video the park released in the run up to Voletarium - the space depicted on the plans looks quite similar in shape to the Scandinavian area. So perhaps the park have had plans for a while to add an attraction of some sort in the basement?

There is a precedent for repurposing a storage basement for a ride - that's what they did for Abenteuer Atlantis in Greece.

Michael Mack seemingly teasing future developments in the basement space of Scandinavia.
The use of the ACE hastag - Adventure Club of Europe - is intriguing. An indication that the ACE story is being tied into whatever the new Scandinavia feature or attraction will be? Just as it will be with the new Piraten and waterpark resort, and has already been with Voletarium.

Europa have released another look at the construction progress of the Scandinavia area.

It has been announced that the area will reopen at the end of May 2019!
A press event to mark both the reopening of the area and the opening of the new Scandinavian themed hotel Kronasar (beside the water park which opens later this year) will be held in on 24th May. Interesting to note that it will be only 2 days before the 1 year anniversary of the fire.

Also some more details of the new area have been revealed in an interview on EP-Radio.
- The theming will be more detailed than before.
- The buildings will be taller, because of new requirements and regulations, some will have two floors inside instead of one.
- Game stands will be smaller than before
- The Andersen tower will serve as an entrance to the "surprise in the basement".
- There will be a new Rulantica themed shop.

That'd be a quick turnaround given the current progress and whatever they're adding to the basement.

Then again the Ireland area looked nowhere near finished when I visited on June 3rd of that year and then a month later it was all complete and open, so maybe they work fast when conditions allow for it.
