FASTEST inversion?

We've all heard about the world tallest and craziest inversions, but what is the fastest inversion?

My only thought would be furius Bacco but I guess I'm not sure.

I'm mostly curious about the speed at the point of the inversion, thus taking out an element like a loop.

Anyone have any ideas?

I definitely don't know for sure. However, my best guess is that it would be a pretzel loop. Off the top of my head, its the only inversion where you're upside-down at its lowest point. Tatsu maybe?

Some of the heartlines on Intamin inverts (Tornado, Volcano) seem pretty fast but I don't think they're anywhere near the fastest.

I know Viper at Great Adventure had a Heartline roll that was taken at about 50 mph. Chiller also had barrel rolls that were taken at near top speed forwards and backwards.

Wouldn't Baco's inline twist be up there? Never been there but it doesn't look as if there is much elevation change from end of launch to where it is.

They're not really inversions... I have a diagram somewhere that explains it ;) :p

It would have been maverick with its barrel roll, but we all know how that went....

Umm, probably Hulk or Baco at this point.

The old Arrow mega loopers should also be considered, particularly Shockwave at SFGA and Steel Phantom at Kennywood.

Also for the record, overall, the fastest roller coaster that has an inversion is Eejanaika.

I think he means what coaster can be considered to hold the record for taking an inversion at a high speed.

^ I understand, I just thought it would be worth mentioning.

It is really tough to think of an inversion that is taken at a serious speed. Ideally, engineers plan for lower speeds to deal with the higher g-force that is experienced. The entry and exit speed are what needs to be considered, such as for Full Throttle or other large looping coasters. Baco as mentioned would be a good candidate, with a long, drawn-out inversion for high speed.

It was an insane inversion. The quickness of the roll, the hangtime as you were upside down, and then getting to experience it again backwards.

If the heartline roll had stayed, how fast would it have been taken?

Maybe around 50-60? Cause you have that 70mph launch into a trim and then down that hill. It really whipped itself around that inversion.

This is tough mostly because things that feel fast aren't necessarily. Plus, how do you measure it? The average speed sustained through the inversion?

My guess would be that some of the older zero-g rolls might be up there.

Baco's twist, Alpengeist's first inversion maybe?

I honestly haven't a clue.

Just interested, but would Khan's Zero G roll be up there as one of the "fastest" inversions? It feels incredibly intense, but speed and intensity are two different things.
