After reading Jerry's topic about Van Helsing's Factory at Movie Park Germany, I started to think of other enclosed coasters.

Although I despise spinning coasters, I really enjoyed Exterminator at Kennywood. There was something about the theme and whole cheesiness of it. Plus the spin doesn't feel so bad in the dark.

Of course, there's the Sewer Rat at Lightwater Valley. I loved that. Well, the theme, not so much the ride. I look forward to trying Raptor Attack this year.

Then we have Space Mountain, the old Space Invader at Blackpool and Evolution at Bobbejaanland. All of which are quiet well themed.

It would seem that enclosed coasters have a decent level of theme to them, although there are some exceptions.

Enclosed coasters I dislike at X:\No Way Out at Thorpe Park and the one at Amsterdam Dungeon.

What are the best and worst ones you've experienced?

List here: http://www.rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&ca=114&page=1

The best would probably be Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom. The theming is awesome and you just feel like your head is going to be swept cleanly from your shoulders at any point, amazing. I like the illusion of speed and intensity indoor coasters can create, I bet if Space Mountain were not enclosed it would be a pretty bog-standard coaster. The dark is awesome.

Crush's Coaster is a pile of crap. It pretends to be themed for half the ride then you just go into a big box with some disco lights to create the feeling that you're underwater....Right...It's all a bit lame really.

Similar thing goes for The Dark Knight at SFGAdv. Yes, we all know it's just a mouse in a box, but had it been themed spectacularly a brilliant, amazing coaster experience could have been created. But no, you're just very aware the whole time that this is just a mouse in a box. Lame.

Honourable mentions go to Rock n Rollercoaster (both), Space Mountain DLP and The Mummy (USO) for being awesome rides in a box.

Best:
Black Hole - Alton Towers
Space Mountain - DLRP
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - DLRP
HollenBlitz - Travelling Coaster
Raptor Attack - Lightwater Valley

Ok:
Temple of the Night Hawk - Phantasialand

Worst:
X:// No Way out - Thorpe Park
Space Invaders 2 - Blackpool Pleasure Beach

They're easily my favourite type with a good theme (although despite that I still adore X:\ No Way Out.

Raptor attack is brilliant, you will not be disappointed, Ian. I was also very fond of the Sewer Rat, it was one of my earliest coasters but what they have put it now stands up to it and has not embarrassed its legacy.

Black Hole was also a classic and is sorely missed.

Not sure I can remember Thunder Mountain at Flamingo Land, I just remember picking at the foam exterior, as many other people had.

We desperately need a new enclosed coaster in this country!

I don't know the best I have been on, probably Disneyland Space Mountain, but the worst has to be Revenge of the Mummy USH.

Really, I have no idea how people even enjoy that ride. It's total crap. Let me get some cardboard and I can theme the coaster section better. Its total garbage. Not to mention its quite boring as well. Its easily in my bottom 5, and I don't know if it will ever move up.

Heres some of the ones I have been on

Revenge of the mummy Florida, great ride, the theming makes it so much better.
Rock N Rollercoaster Paris and Flordia's are great rides
Crush's Coaster DLP, The idea of spinning in the dark is great only thing that lets it down is capacity
Spaces Mountain Florida is a great ride in the dark, would not be as good.

I Found Space invader to be a bit of a let down however was an ok ride however I liked it.

I seem to prefer dark coasters due to the fact you don't know whats coming.

I have to agree with this. Revenge of the Mummy was not nearly as fun as I thought it would be, not that I had great expectations anyway.

But one of my favorites, even though it's not really themed, more enclose dthan anything, is Runaway Mountain at SFOT. It's just one of those really good rides where you're kinda taken by surprise. But Space Mountain wins it all.

It's hard to say, because they're all good for different reasons, so I'll talk about them individually I guess.

Disaster Transport- I've always loved Disaster Transport and the crapness of its theming, simply because it's a fun ride and there's usually no line.

Exterminator- So much fun, disorienting, and the theming is of particular interest to me because my stepdad is an exterminator so it makes me laugh :p .

Rock n' Roller Coaster- Quality ride with quality theming but I can't remember much about it because I was bawling my eyes out throughout almost the entire thing.

Dark Knight- The Dark Knight ones aren't as bad as everyone made them out to be, but they're not outstanding and are probably my least favourites.

Dragon- One of the kiddie coasters at LaRonde, and just like all the coaster there with the exception of Vampire, it wasn't that great. For a kiddie ride it was fun, but I wouldn't reride it.

Space Mountain- Again, I can't remember because it has been ten years this month since I went to Florida, but it's Disney and I remember liking it so it must have been alright!

Blazing Fury and Fire in the Hole- I loved them both, I don't know why. The theming is fun, the splashdown thing at the end caught me off guard, and they're just different. It's literally like going 5mph the entire time and seeing different scenes aside from the two or three drops, but I enjoyed them.

Flight of Fear- I think these might be my favourites. They have a launch, the coaster is fun, and I could reride them over and over.

Skull Mountain- A fun family coaster, but the first drop was the only thing that I remember about it because it actually had some awesome airtime.

So I guess from all that I'd say the Flight of Fear clones are the best, closely followed by Rock n' Roller Coaster, Disaster Transport, and Exterminator. Least Favourite would be Dragon and Dark Knight.

Best: Winja's at Phantasialand

Worst: XNWO

Not much to do with whether they're inside or not though, Just whether they're good rides or not for those.

Best for me would be Eurosat at Europa Park closely followed by Winjas at Phantasialand. Both awesome rides! :--D Eurosat has some crazy tight turns and a great sensation of speed. Winjas is more of a fun ride with some funky theming and funky elements at the end!

Worst have to be Tempel of the Nighthawk also at Phantasialand and X:/No Way Out at Thorpe. Neither of them makes any sense to me. Both forceless and dull, while X at least blast some air at you I guess it's the slightly better of the two.. :p

Enclosed coasters are only good if they completely immerse you into believing you're not inside a tin shed. That's probably one of the reasons why XNWO is so bad.

Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida was awesome. Good dark ride portion, fun ride and outstanding scenery with plenty of surprises. I loved it! The one at Universal Studious Hollywood was really pants in comparison though! It definitely felt less impressive and was nowhere near as fun. I guess I knew what to expect more the second time round but it was definitely a worse ride.

California's Space Mountain was a huge amount of fun. Paris's and Florida's were a bit meh but were very nicely themed. I also really liked the Rock 'n' Rollercoasters as well.

Oh and XNWO is easily the worst.

Love:

Crush's Coaster
Space Invader II
Black Hole
Space Mountain

X is the only one I dislike really.

I think my favourite would have to be Revenge of the Mummy Florida. I really like that ride, I think the whole theme works well together and the effects are really good. Although, I do have to mention Space mountain at Magic Kingdom for the same reasons that Jordan mentioned. I reckon it would be a pretty dull ride if it wasn't for the darkness.

The worst has to be X:/NWO. It's just awful.

I've been on a fair few, but will only mention the ones that stand out, for whatever reason.

Best (in no particular order)

Rock 'N' Roller Coaster, DLP: Ok, so it's clearly a coaster in a metal box, but it's a great coaster and the lighting and music is excellent. I'd almost put the Flight of Fear coasters in here, but the lighting and effects for RnR eclipse them totally.

Space Mountain, Hong Kong Disney: During the Ghost Galaxy refit, which is amazing. Tokyo's is excellent as well, but Hong Kong's, while probably the same layout, seemed like a slightly better ride.

Comet Express, Lotte World: Not so much "enclosed", but built entirely underground. The theming is excellent, it's a long ride, but it can be a bit nauseating if you get too good of a spin on it.

Space Mountain, Bangkok Dreamworld: Surprisingly good. One of the better non-Disney space coasters.

Fire in the Hole/Blazing Fury: Not that exciting in terms of the coaster, but I really enjoyed both of them for the idea/story and quirkyness.

Worst, again in no order

Space Mountain Mission 2, DLP: God awful piece of s**t. End of review.

Thunder Mountain, Flamingoland: Ok, so it's gone now, but it was rubbish. Just a crappy pinfari with no lighting/theming inside at all.

Zola 7, Fuji Q: Quirky, what with it being a shooting dark ride and a coaster, but the coaster section is brutal.

Black Hole Scramble, Space World: It's not that there's anything wrong with it really, but it's a bland and boring ride with very little theming to rescue it.

Most WTF?!

To be fair I could stick Comet Express or Zola 7 in here as well.

Bullfight Roller Coaster Matador, Parque Espana: Awful coaster, brilliant theme and one of the biggest WTF moments on any coaster I've ridden.

Shinpi, Nasu Highlands: I have no idea what the **** this was supposed to be about (Giant frogs and a "finale" of riding into a cat's mouth). Again, rubbish coaster though.

I've not been on many, but I think R/Evolution at BobbieJobbie is my favourite. With all the light effects and everything, it really benefits from being indoors. Plus, its completely "WTF"?!

The biggest surprise for me was the Scooby Doo ride at WB Australia. A short but very sweet, very well themed medievil start, with a nice drop under swinging axes. Crazy elevator lift up. Backwards drop, change of direction, then a pretty standard wild mouse with crazy laser show, a pretty cool version of the scooby doo theme tune, then finally a hidden dip at the end with some more awesome themeing.

Crap video, but I cant be arsed to find a better one :)

I'd agree with you about Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster - I loved it and it's definitely one of my favourites.

My other faves, in no particular order:

Space Mountain - Disney Florida
Revenge of the Mummy - Universal Florida
Eurosat - Europa Park
Rock N Rollercoaster (Florida)

Not sure what the worst one is - Probably X No Way Out - although I generally have a laugh on it because it's so bad! :D

Oh, another list to get me thinking - I like!

1. Exterminator at Kennywood - Decent into hell is just plain fun with loads of spinning
2. Space Mountain at Disneyland - Best Space Mountain coaster & Ghost Galaxy <3
3. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios - Aerosmith Rocks!
4. Höllenblitz at German fairs - Brilliantly strange
5. Space Mountain at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom - Nostalgia city
6. Flight of Fear at Kings Island/Kings Dominion - Island one has better effects
7. Blazing Fury at Dollywood & Fire In The Hole at Silver Dollar City - Both quirky & Dollywood one is slightly better
8. Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida - Good coaster, but not as great or as bad as others make it out to be
9. Eurosat at Europa Park - Wierd, wacky German techno coaster
10. Disaster Transport at Cedar Point - Indoor Swiss Bob is cool, literally
11. Temple of the Night Hawk at Phantasialand - Wierd, wacky & dull
12. Skull Mountain at Six Flags Great Adventure - meh
13. Dark Knight at Six Flags Great Adventure/Great America - Could have been so much better
14. Pirates Hideaway at Casino Pier - Coaster in a toaster (hot tin box), worst coaster ever?

*Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain at Indiana Beach is also in the list that Ian linked, but it's not totally enclosed or I would ranked it up there in my top 5.
