Freizeitpark Plohn | Dynamite | Mack BigDipper

Interesting. Have somewhat mixed feelings about this one.

+ Theming looks good
+ Looks smooth and flows well
- Feels very short
- Doesn't actually do a great deal

Guess it's a small park, who have been able to afford a reasonably big ride, so that is good news I suppose. Sadly likely many years until I get out to this bit of Germany to try it for myself.

If it's anything like Lost Gravity, it'll easily be the best ride in the park by a country mile. The only thing that'll come close is their woodie, and that's only okay imo.

I'm struggling to understand how this park managed to afford this though. Macks are hardly cheap these days, it's not exactly a small coaster and the park felt as dead as dodo when I visited (on Mother's Day too). Really doesn't make sense, but hey, it's good for the park, so can't complain.

I think it looks great. Looks to have a slower lift hill than Lost Gravity, and for some reason slows down as the train crests the top. But it looks to have some decent elements and pacing, it will be a great hit at the park! The brake run is a little short for my liking, but I guess that kind of adds to the thrill? I imagine the ride probably cost around €10m since the ride doesn't have that much track so the park could afford it, and it only has two trains, meaning less maintenance costs and costs from purchasing trains.

It was said that this costed more than €5.1 to €5.4 million euros, and 600,000 more were needed because the support foundations were not deep enough (or something along those lines. Still, it’s a bargain of a price for a great-looking ride!

Are those rows… facing each other?

I can imagine that would be weird!
Yes they are! It's worth noting Mack has done backwards seats on Wiener Looping which were very quickly removed after media day;

but this is the first time that Mack has done a backwards car where the seats face towards each other.

Prater has the option to turn those back whenever they like, it's a modular system, so it's very possible once things have died down for that ride a bit they spice things up by switching the row around.

Lost Gravity also had tests of a backwards-facing row a couple of years after opening. Don't think it was ever planned to open for the public, but it's something that has been experimented with multiple times.

Wonder if it's just more Mack experimenting, or if Plohn are doing extra with their new cred opening?

At Prater the backwards facing row never opened to guests because there was a problem with riders only being held in their seats by the restraints on the lifthill, which posed difficulties in a evacuation scenario. They have a fix for this planned and will introduce the backwards row at some point in the future. The whole thing was talked about here:

I don't quite understand the fix they have in mind, so i can't say whether this inward facing seating configuration might also be a way of solving the evac issue.

In general Plohn has teased "surprises" for the upcoming 30 year anniversary season, so this might very well be a part of this. I am a bit conflicted about the whole looking at people instead of looking at coaster track, but i think it could be pretty fun to watch your friends reactions while riding. This kind of community experience can elevate the experience on other ride types imo and might work well on a thrill coaster too.
