Fun Spot Atlanta closure

It feels weird because the ride I'm thinking about the most is Hurricane. I've only been on a couple of Milers, but that's enough for me to think that those are a very special genre of ride.
If ArieForce One doesn't get relocated, unlike Hurricane we are going to see rides like that pop up again in the future (and we quite literally are right now, if you've seen the proposed conversion of Loup-Garou coming in 2028 - that shares a lot). We're also, for lack of a better word, 'finally' getting a new best defunct roller coaster, perhaps Eagle Fortress has finally been beaten after almost twenty years.

It sounds like the thing people will miss the most is the vibe of the park that ArieForce is in.
My friend who rode it said;
...being FunSpot, it doesn't have the baggage of a lot of RMCs. No stupid lockers and metal detectors, no "OI! IS THERE ANYTHING IN YOUR POCKETS?"
No hour long queues, yes you had to get up and run round to reride, but if you jogged, you could run round and get back on the same train and not miss a dispatch. RMCs aren't normally like that. [It's] the enthusiast's roller coaster, in every sense of the word. Even if it's relocated, it won't quite be the same.

Do almost a full day at Six Flags, drive half an hour down the road, rock up in the middle of nowhere, literally like Rollercoaster Tycoon workbench, completely flat empty field. Here is coaster.
Go on Miler kiddie cred, laugh because Miler kiddie creds are good. Go on Hurricane, be almost killed, laugh. Lap ArieForce One, almost have your legs severed at the thighs, laugh.
I know people, rightfully, say the park is trash, but the park made it what it is. It'd be an elite coaster anywhere, but AF1 was unique by being at Funspot.
Thoughts on a relocation - it looks dim. Not even Switchback is able to find a buyer. I wouldn't be shocked if I can count on one hand the amount of rides who make it out of here alive.

Well...

In just two years we've lost Oakwood, ZDT's, Six Flags America, and now this.

It's always the ones you most expect.

Man, FS Atlanta was so much better than both Florida locations and had more guests both days we went in 2023 and 2025. :/ AF1 will forever hold a special place in my heart. Glad we bought the ride photo last time we were there.

This is such a shame, but hardly a surprise - AF1 was a big (narcissistic?) gamble and the place was notoriously empty whenever anyone visited. I went a little over 12 months ago and there were only a couple of other paying customers there - and a school bus who made up a few numbers on the ride.

Not convinced that the ride itself can be relocated as-is - but the rolling stock must be worth a few $ by itself.

Joe Draves, the designer, said on Facebook that the elevation heights of the land vary by around 40ft, so it’s wouldn’t be a simple case of picking up and building elsewhere. It would need adapting.

Just bizarre to have all this break so quickly and suddenly.

Relocation is indeed a costly endeavor. For instance, the city of Sandusky considered purchasing Disaster Transport, specifically the Intamin bobsled track beneath the exterior covering, with the intention of relocating to a nearby Metro Park. However, the cost ultimately amounted to approximately $6-8 million, solely for labor and the effort required to disassemble and reassemble the roller coaster (cost of moving material not included). Roller coasters are intricate erector sets at their core, with extensive and comprehensive effort to disassemble and reassemble, making them hardly a “bargain” purchase.

Hoping Air Force One could find a second life all the same.

I'll be sad to see
Wild card prediction: it gets dismantled rather than demolished, it sits in a field for a couple of years and then FlamingoLand buys it for 2 million quid.
🤞🤞🤞

I was thinking exactly the same thing! - although maybe it needs to be sold to a couple of other places and transported around the world a bit first

I'm a bit torn at the moment as to whether to go back for more rides. I had my fill last Wednesday night, riding til my legs couldn't take it any more, but I will be back in Atlanta on Sunday before flying back to he uk in the evening. Should I get even more rides as a last chance, or was last week enough? hmmm....

More rides. I mean... Durrr!

Lightwatervalley purchases and calls it: The Ultimate's Revenge. Get rid of the zero car and replace it with this 1991 British Rail inspired beauty:

Taking an old, dilapidated roller coaster and going over it with new track and layout to create an entirely new roller coaster experience. Swear I've heard that before?? :P

This whole thing is just Rollercoaster Tycoon in real life. You start with a map of a few flats, go karts, and rotting theming, take out a huge loan to build an Ultra-Extreme coaster named after the 8 year-old playing the game, and "You have failed your objective!" And now they get to save the design and shoehorn it into another park in the game, maybe if it somehow works out.

Trying to see if I can scramble a last minute trip out there now. AF1 seems too good to miss.

Flights are awkwardly priced though. Not sure I can justify the cost...how dare they not make this announcement earlier so I could have planned this trip more effectively!?

I wished I hadn't used up all my annual leave this year, if I could take the time off and wasn't saving up for Florida later this year I might have be able to go.

I have no doubt that it'll go down as the world's greatest defuct coaster. Its a shame to miss out on it, but I guess it is what it is.
