Guest dies after becoming unresponsive on Stardust Racers at Epic Universe

I'm there today, we drove past news crews on the way in, we didn't know until we got in to the park. Terrible for those involved.

There's no indication on when it may reopen.

Wow, that's young. Any news on pre-existing conditions or is this some total freak occurrence?

I'm in the Mine Cart Madness queue and a few people in the queue are talking about it.

We now have a news chopper circling the park. They just love to exploit a tragedy, don't they?

It's an unusual day here today, on Sunday the park was empty (front row night ride on both sides of SR for us), today is much much busier but there are some staff blocking off SR who look a bit more senior than most park ops, I assume they are PR trained. They did start approaching me when I was taking photos of the ride but they backed off when presumably it was cleadtI was just a guest taking pics of the ride. We wonder if the press has sent staff into the park to try and get some juice.

Not good at all, that poor lad. "Blunt impact" sounds concerning, could that be caused by hitting your head on restraints/seat whilst unconscious?

I know we'll find out what happened in the future so best not to speculate, but this is so sad.

I thought it might be related to a loose article (a shoe or something? not sure) but from a bit of googling, there is a lot of reference to ‘multiple blunt force’ injuries (?!) …. which sounds…. horrible 😟

Such a bizarre incident... a broken leg, a piece of metal, 'multiple blunt force' injuries... what on earth happened?

Feel terrible for the guy, and everyone involved. It does sound like a really strange incident with quite a few differing accounts I’ve heard so far… “a big piece of metal” also really doesn’t sound good! What terrible news!

This is odd, if it was a large piece of metal, I'd have expected inspection crews to be inspecting the ride yesterday, we saw no movement on it at all. Unless they believe it was from another guest or something other than the ride? Stardust does have metal detectors so whilst it doesn't rule out another guest entirely it does make it unlikely.

I was thinking this is the most likely scenario.

It’s awful either way but if he has been hit and killed by a ride part coming lose then that’s a whole different ball game for Universal and Mack.

This is a YT thumbnail I just saw on my feed… “A big piece of metal” what the hell

In that (mostly rubbish) news report they talked to a TikToker called Tommy Italiano who claimed to have seen it from the queueline: "There was a big piece of metal that was detached hanging off the coaster". In a TikTok video he elaborated that it was from "the back of the seat", seeming to mean the seat the guest was sitting in, though it wasn't fully clear from his description.

Honestly, this Tommy Italiano guy sounds like he's making things up. Again, there were no inspections being made to the ride hardware yesterday. It just doesn't add up for me from my own observations.

Couldn't see much from Mako just now to comment on today.

Yeah, I thought it sounded a bit vague as well, like he might be embellishing something he half-saw... but that seems risky in such a litigious country!

Even if someone came back into the station myteriously injured/dead with no obviously visible signs of hardware failure though, wouldn't they still want to do a full inspection?

Turns out the guy did indeed use a wheelchair which caused a massive discussion in these comments. Some were saying that he shouldn’t have been allowed on the coaster and some saying that he qualified to ride because he could keep his head up and grip the restraint.

Even after finding this out, it is still hard to imagine how all the blunt impacts came about. The ride has some pretty aggressive negative g’s that quickly swap into positives g’s but surely the restraint is designed in such a way where a person who has gone unconscious won’t be bashed around to a degree that they bleed and die….?
