Help with video

Alright so I just bought NL last night and I have a design that I want to make a video of. I recorded the video (or I assume I did) using the built-in avi video program in the simulator but I can't seem to find where the video was stored. I feel kinda dumb asking for help on this but I am a noob with NL for now.

It ended up in the "screenshots" folder that is located in the NL main folder.

I'm not seeing it there. That was one of the first places I checked. Maybe I didn't take the video properly? It seemed pretty simple. And I could tell it was recording because the visual got very slightly laggy.

What OS do you use? Vista have a lot of issues with taking screenshots/videos in NL.

Try and make a search for recent files on your computer, look for some large AVI files and you can see where they are.

Actually I'm on Windows 7 so that probably means I'm screwed :-\ I also realized its not even storing screenshots in the screenshots folder and when I search "screenshots" on my comp it only shows the folder for a different game.

I had problems finding my files at first on Vista as well. I ended up going to the avi setup option in the NoLimits folder and told it to save the files in the desktop. Haven't had a problem since.

That worked great. Thank you. Now I'm having a slight issue with frame rate. What should I set it to so that it isn't laggy in the actual video. I thought it would be fine, but the avi file turned out to be a bit choppy (probably since I put everything at full settings). Any suggestions?

The output file shouldn't be that, have you tried to set the output file to 30(25) fps instead of the standard 15?

Yes, but it seems a bit laggy. Still not sure why. I wouldn't think any setting would be a problem for my comp...

could it be that you are recording it at your standard resolution, which makes the files incredible large (non compressed) which your computer is having trouble to play due to the massive files? Or is it your harddrive that is just too slow for the high bit-rate?

Reduce the resolution in the Simulator and test if a lower resolution video works better...

Still very slightly laggy (may not be an issue for uploading to Youtube but its annoying to me). I lowered it significantly so that is odd that I'm still having issues.

Btw, I have 8 gigs of RAM, an i7 processor, an ATI Radeon HD 5700 series gpu so I really don't know what's wrong...

Could also be because the video files are MASSIVE... Or something to do with your card, or perhaps you don't have the current graphics driver?

Also, I believe you need to turn off compatibility files inside the NL folders, and then your files should pop up. It's been a while since I did it, but all of my files show up in my NL folders.

Ok, now that I think about it, I know what you mean. it's that the video file is so massive your computer is having trouble playing it. That's why I convert all of my video files to mp4 files as soon as I'm done filming. Almost all of the quality is kept, but it's not so dang massive.

I managed to convert the file from 14.6 gigs to 53 megs, but I turned it from an avi to a .ps...and I have no idea what that is...

As long as it works with Youtube, or wherever you want to upload it, then it doesn't matter...

True, but as of yet I can't edit it in video editing sofware...

Mr. X, what do you do to convert to mp4? Or anyone else for that matter.

^ Why would you need to convert the file before editing, use the raw file to edit and then convert it to something that Youtube wants...
