What's new

Hershey Park | Wildcat's Revenge | RMC Wildcat | 2023

GCI. CGI coasters are the ones you see in movies.

Thanks, haha. I didn't even notice yesterday.

The average park goer doesn't know who RMC is so it's not going to matter to them if it's made by GCI or RMC. Therefore, picking GCI isn't going to make the ride any more "special" to the park. If anything, it's more risky due to their inexperience with this type of coaster.

Thanks for your reply.
And it is true most people don't know or notice the difference. My meaning of special was more related to the designs. RMC is just another RMC to me. With another company making these hybrids, there is a new look on things. And maybe you wil get a more 'special' layout than another RMC.

What I didn't think of, was that there could as well be a proposal made. That is a good possibility.
I am just very curious what GCI is able to do.

Yeah, I can almost guarantee that GCI probably submitted a proposal. It's not very common for parks to approach one manufacturer when building a large coaster. Often, they will put out a Request for Proposal (RFP) to several companies. For almost any large coaster, it's a safe assumption that there were 1-3 other proposals submitted that were really interesting but will never see the light of day.

From the horse's mouth:

One of the company’s first projects was the Wildcat at Hersheypark, which will close at the end of the month, “There was competition with myself and another competitor on redoing what they have with a new type of track, the steel track. I felt pretty positive I was going to get the project but I was told I did not get the job. It’s sad. These are part of my children the way I look at it. But this isn’t the first time this has happened to me.”

That’s a shame, not least because I’m curious what GCI could do with a full inverting Titan-tracked ride design.

It’s a coaster that really needed something doing to it though - I found it immensely rough a couple of years ago, definitely not re-rideable. The new layout looks like it will be a massive step up and also even out a bit more guest flow north of Fahrenheit.

I do kind of wish the project went to GCI instead of RMC, I think it would have been very neat to see Wildcat turn into the first fully Titan Track GCI. Would have been even better had GCI designed a new layout so that in a sense Wildcat would have become the first coaster in a new era of GCIs.

Work continues on Wildcat's Revenge, more track has gone in for the underflip.

Also more dirt has been put down to flatten out the area for the trains shed, the station roof has also started to get new tiles added. New footers have also been added under Wildcats original first drop.

Jesus, surely there will be more diagonal bracing on that huge overbank! I imagine the lateral sway there will be immense otherwise. Looking huge!
There is quite a bit of bracing on the inside of the turn from the original first drop. You can also see that they've added members that that run up to the bottom of the track's steel bracing. Those members appear to be black so I'm guessing they are also steel.

That's not a good POV ("looks slow"?) - I'm sure the ride will be great but that POV ain't selling it for me! :)
It’s weirdly nauseating the way it slows the video during the valleys and speeds it up during the rolls at the end which I expect to be much slower and floatier IRL
