What's new

Hersheypark |"Skyrush"| Intamin Mega

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

New spine is made to deal with the forces better, and I think costs as well.

Lmao Furie<3

I dunno what the answer is either. At 5'5" and fairly slim, never had a problem with Intamin restraints. Except Rita, which is a terrible ride and has that one slam that throws my neck into the restraint.

It's worth noting that on a few coasters I can understand how it would be a problem even though I don't experience it and I know that if I wasn't prepared it would hurt. Kanonen was one of them, where I escaped without so much as a tap from the restraints. But to my surprise, so did Kyle... And he's 6ft and far broader than I am.

The end part of Intimidator before the restraint change performed a fairly brutal slam that on my first ride caught me out. However, from then on I escaped every time whilst others including Kyle complained. I actually thought It was the best part of the ride. Maverick does the same, but I don't recall Kyle having an issue there.

So, what the hell is going on?

I think it's mostly perception. It would explain why Rita hurts me. I want Rita to hurt me, because it's awful and I want a reason to loath it?

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

^Nah it's just Intamin... I've had the restraint issue on Rita, Maverick and iSpeed, and a little bit on Desert Race (which tbh was REALLY surprising, maybe because it was better designed track?)... I forget what Stormrunner and Farenheit were like, though they still had that rattle...

Either way, I just don't seem to ever really agree with Intamin Shoulder Restraints... ADORE their lap bars, but everything else is absolutely awful and if I have to physically brace myself to enjoy a ride, then it could be the best ride ever and I'd still hate it (Hello Maverick and iSpeed)...

As for Skyrush, I still don't see the point of a partially winged coaster...

Maybe you should just stop riding rollercoasters??

This holds such a ridiculous amount of truth in it.

I'm 6ft and thin and I'm always fine. But, I've got quite long legs. Like, really long legs. If I sit next to my 5ft8 friend, we're the same height sat down... So, in terms of coasters I'm probably only 5ft8... But, then, he has really short, stumpy legs. HMMM. End point here is I don't really have a problem with the Intamin restraints.

Also, Rita <3

Whilst part of this is true, I don't want to hate Baco. In fact, I really enjoy it, apart from them two moments that hurt. So, yeah, my perception is not like that, at all in fact.

Erm, no, why?

Cos quite frankly, that makes absolutely no sense to what I said, sooooo care to develop your arguement more than that?

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

I prefer the OTSR due to the fact that the Intamin lapbars spite me at random times. I have no problem with the OTSR either. Its a snug fit that requires me to be stapled in, but I dont hit my head against the shoulder bits either.

Some of the wisest words I've seen on here. The best thing, the two first words of that sentence can be swapped for mostly anything coaster related (minus accidents, of course. Then I'd restrict the word "fine"). Sucky airtime? Crap paint job? Uncomfortable seats? Nobody forces anybody to ride it.

Glad to see you drop by, UC!

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

That's so true. The only problem I've ever had with Intamin restraints is getting pinned on Maverick, and I get pinned on tons of coasters; I just happen to be a sort of awkward in-between-clicks kind of size.

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

^ How does getting pinned equate to no airtime? I get pinned on damn near all rides, and still get airtime...

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

I pinned myself on NTG and felt as if I was still going to fly out, that argument doesn't work. I think pinning makes you feel the airtime MORE than not, that is on an ejector based ride, not floater.

It's still weightlessness, but there's no "air," it's just painful. Getting pinned on Magnum is like getting hit with a blunt axe.

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

Magnum just is death, there is no need to discuss this.

And to counter UC's statement about the restraints. You won't be riding it if you have eaten one to many cheeseburgers! But yeah, otherwise you will and will probably like it.

I have no problem with then either, the only one I ever did was ispeed but I felt rough before ever getting on the coaster.

Just like you I actually like Rita.

Agreed.

Everything is perception. Enthusiasts want a reason to hate something, it lets them feel like they "know" better than the average joe. It's the same reason tons of people enjoy SLCs while enthusiasts hate them.

Intamin restraints are fine. If you don't think they are, you're going to ride anyway.

Okay, this really needs its own topic but... It's not quite true.

I think the truth is that most people who go to theme parks go to maybe one or two a year (if that). They'll queue for a ride, get their buzz and move on. They are enjoying themselves so much because it's something quite rare for them to do, that they ignore the pain.

When you're riding 50 coasters in two weeks, you very quickly lose the excitement and start spotting the faults/pain. Anyone who has been on a lot of coasters will notice it to a significantly greater extent to infrequent riders. So slightly different. I don't think people actually actively go on a ride wanting to find fault, well, not many people ;)

But yes, everyone will ride it anyway no matter what the restraints

Re: "Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

I'm always a bit skeptical when about to ride a coaster that is 'omg, so painful and rough' to the majority of enthusiasts, mainly because of the Rita thing. I love it, am never uncomfortable and always manage to get a nice pop of airtime over the little hill (y'all know what bit I mean). I've never found a problem with this type of restraint until I rode iSpeed. This was a ride I hadn't really heard any critical review about, and was really looking forward to riding (love Intamin). However, the thing was so bloody painful and the restraints were so tight that any air I would have got was either denied to me by the ridiculous restraints, or I was distracted away from because of pain/bracing myself in order to avoid said pain.

So I can see the argument against these restraints, but overall I've never really had a problem.

"Skyrush" - Intamin Hyper - Hersheypark

It was strange that we found the same problem yet others that have a problem on Rita were fine.
