What's new

How many different number 1s have you had?

I'm both thrilled and concerned by the fact that I'm still on a mere 3, and even Nemesis is a stretch.

2009-2013 Nemesis - Alton Towers
2013-2015 Revenge of the Mummy - Universal Studios Singapore
2015-------- Helix - Liseberg

I only started ranking coasters after joining CoasterForce in 2011, so I've had 3 'official' #1s over these 11 years or so;

2011-2016: X2, SFMM
2016-2022: Taron, Phantasialand
2022: Ride to Happiness, Plopsaland de Panne

And a bit of a honorary mention to Katun, which would've been my favorite between 2009 and 2011. I don't think there's any particular stand out coasters that I've ridden before that visit to Mirabilandia when I braved the big ones for the first time.

Since I became an enthusiast I only had 2 n°1 and its the two Intamin Megacoasters in Europe. This might very well change with a trip in the US this summer though :p

Goliath, Walibi Holland (June 2005 - November 2015)

My first airtime machine and the first truly "wow" coaster I've been on. It is very intense at the bottom of the first drop and right next delivers a fantastic airtime if you sit at the front. The Stengel Dive can gloriously snap you on a good run and the final bunny hops provide a nice conclusion to the ride. Ridden this one over 200 times and still can't get enough! Too bad its middle part isn't forceful enough imo...

Expedition GeForce (November 2015 - Present)

But EGF takes the airtime to the next level. Contrary to Goliath, it is relentless and just has more to it. The forest setting and some support headchoppers make the experience even more impressive. Oh, and that first drop is just hilarious at the back!

Goliath, Walibi Holland (June 2005 - November 2015)

Expedition Ge Force (November 2015 - June 2018)

Steel Vengeance (June 2018 - Present)

SV wins by sheer quantity of airtime - aided by some really fun sideways hills too.

?? - Summer 2014: Expedition Everest
Summer 2014 - February 2015: Comet, Hersheypark
February 2015 - March 2015: Kumba
March 2015 - July 2015: Dare Devil Dive, Six Flags Over Georgia
For an hour in July 2015: Intimidator, Carowinds
July 2015 - June 2016: Fury 325
June 2016 - July 2017: Skyrush
July 2017 - August 2017: Mindbender, Galaxyland
3 days in August 2017: Maverick
August 2017 - June 2018: Intimidator 305
June 2018 - Present: Voyage

Before I started ranking

Tyrolean Tubtwist (2007 - 2007)
-Roller Coaster GYPB (2007 - 2009)
-Rage (2009 - 2014)
-OzIris (2014 - 2016)
-Nemesis Inferno (2016 - 2016)
-Stealth (2016 - 2016)
-Olympia Looping (2016 - 2018)

After I started ranking

-Icon (2018 - 2019)
-Olympia Looping again (2019 - 2022)
-Megafobia (2022 - present)

My orders been:

Nemesis - (probably first ridden in 1996-7ish)
Collossos (heide park) - first ridden on the CF live there - 2009
Bizarro sfne (cf live again - 2012)
Skyrush (First ridden on the same live, but a place or 2 below bizarro, rerode in about 2017, and upgraded) - It's gonna take something special to knock this one off!
And my new number 1 - June 2022 is Zadra!

I started counting credits recently, but until 2021 my #1s were Shambhala or Dragon Khan, depending on how I felt that day. Then in december I rode F.L.Y. and it became my #1, only to be surpassed 15 minutes later by Taron. Spent the whole day at Phantasialand getting rerides on both and deciding which one I liked better, but Taron has stayed my #1 since then.

Two for me, and I would say my first number one predates any formal rankings on my part.

The beginning - 2016: Nemesis
2016 - now: Taron

I will be visiting Cedar Point and Kings Island amongst others later this year though so I will be surprised if Taron stays on top after that.

Finally something knocking Skyrush from the throne 🙂

What is it that you like so much about Zadra? Seeing as no other RMC have been able to dethrone Skyrush. What's unique and so good with Zadra?

Personally I like RMC. They're good fun rides. But out of the ones I've been on no one is near my top 10. Looking forward to going on Zadra 😀

Summer of 2007 or something - Viper, Darien Lake
Cedar Point Halloweekends 2021 - Rougarou
Cedar Point Halloweekends 2021 - Valravn
Cedar Point Halloweekends 2021 - Maverick

Cedar Point Halloweekends 2021 - Steel Vengeance

That was an interesting trip; my number one changed with every other ride until we finally got on SteVe and... yeah, nothing has topped it since. Hitting Hershey + Skyrush this August. It's one of the only contenders

Late 2009 (when I first started counting) - Balder, Liseberg
August 2015 - Helix, Liseberg
June 2017 - Taron, Phantasialand
July 2021 onwards - TIE: Taron, Phantasialand / Kondaa, Walibi Belgium

It just seems to get so much "right" - The zero g stall is sublime, It's relentless enough to not feel like its just meandering a bit, but not so relentless that you feel dizzy after, very reridable, and the leg restraints weren't quite as uncomfy as on untamed or wildfire..

As predicted, Taron was dethroned after 6 years following my trip to Cedar Point...

The beginning - September 2016: Nemesis
September 2016 - September 2022: Taron
September 2022 - now: Steel Vengeance

There was never any doubt really was there? :)

I must say though that I haven't ridden Taron for 6 years and barely remember it, but I hope to again next year, so there is a chance it may regain its crown.

This is what I said in 2015:
Uhm... pretty much one - Nemesis.

22 years that stood for, from 1994 all the way to 2016. But I was still pretty basic back then.
I've had 3 now, and to be honest it's a fairly familiar looking pattern:

1994 - 2016, Nemesis
2016 - 2018, Helix
2018 - present, Steel Vengeance

I currently can't imagine what the coaster that tops Steel Vengeance would even look like. 🤷‍♂️

Mine's a pretty simple lineage:
2009 - 2019 - Nemesis
2019 - 2020 - Taron
2020 - now - Zadra

I didn't really travel for coasters/prioritise the hobby till 2018/2019, so I had only been the usual UK parks and out of the UK lineup, Nemesis wins hands down. Now it's a got a lot more competition and Nemesis is much further down my top 10 than I'd ever imagined it being. Iron Gwazi was close to dethroning Zadra, but I think Zadra may just beat it for me still.

Raging Bull: before I became an enthusiast to April 26th 2022, lasted about 3 years
Goliath: April 26th- June 6th, lasted 41 days
Iron gwazi: June 6th to June 24th, lasted 18 days
Steel vengeance: June 24th-Now

Same as a few others, I had only really started counting credits and doing rankings back in 2014....as follows:

2014 - The Swarm, Thorpe Park (Didn't venture out to any theme parks in other countries until 2018)

2017 - Nemesis, Alton Towers (this had been my #2 for a while however I had a rather unpleasant ride on The Swarm that year with the vest restraints that made me alter my rankings)

2018 - The Incredible Hulk, IOA

2018 - Mako, SWO (This was in the same trip however, for a few days before I went to SeaWorld, Hulk was at the top)

This is currently my list however I feel like my visit to Florida in September will lead to me having 2 different new number 1's again during the same trip....

Well, time to add two more number 1's to this list!

2022 - 5th September - Velocicoaster. After even just my first ride on this, I didn't think anything could top it.....ANYTHING. Until....

2022 - 7th September - Iron Gwazi. Yupp, didn't last long 😂
