Goon of the Year
A little while ago me and Tomatron decided to goto Ireland to ride their coasters!

12th August

After a late finish the previous night, and only getting about 2 hours sleep, I find myself at Stansted airport awaiting for my flight to Dublin. But first was breakfast at 4am!

6610_136759567779_728732779_3314250_408127_n.jpg

Well I polished that off =D
6610_136759572779_728732779_3314251_7178981_n.jpg

And a nice brew
6610_136759577779_728732779_3314252_3650642_n.jpg

After a little bit more of a wait to be allowed to check in, I got through security and straight to the gate. As it was the first flight of the day, the plane was here, and on time! Here is the beast that is taking me to Dublin.
6610_136759587779_728732779_3314253_7839936_n.jpg

Not much later we were in the sky
6610_136759592779_728732779_3314254_4391134_n.jpg

Thats Baldock down there
6610_136759597779_728732779_3314255_249078_n.jpg

Also passed over Bedford, but the batteries died as we were going over =[ But I thought this was nice
6610_136759612779_728732779_3314256_1214152_n.jpg

Now in dublin! On time too. And bye-bye plane!
6610_136759617779_728732779_3314257_1657058_n.jpg

I had to hang around in arrivals awaiting for Tom who was coming in from Manchester. Once he arrived, we went to get our hire car from Hertz. A nice red Fiat bravo. Then we were onto our first destination!

it was onto Bettystown, home of funtasia. but we found the road signs a bit american
6610_136759627779_728732779_3314258_8331091_n.jpg

We found Funtasia, and Tom did some awesome parking
6610_136759632779_728732779_3314259_3264349_n.jpg

Welcome to funtasia!
6610_136759647779_728732779_3314262_7321925_n.jpg

It has various arcade machines, but you can pay for them upfront with a card. And there were several rides indoors as well.
6610_136759637779_728732779_3314260_6889540_n.jpg

6610_136759707779_728732779_3314270_7408704_n.jpg

6610_136759732779_728732779_3314272_3530114_n.jpg

We found out that the roof section which had their coaster was not open till 1pm! Which was not for another couple of hours. Bad times =[ We decided to get some brunch from the local shop and sit on the beach.
6610_136759677779_728732779_3314266_6257460_n.jpg

There was this statue too
6610_136759692779_728732779_3314268_67583_n.jpg

It finally got to 1pm, the top section was open! There was some strange rides.
6610_136759737779_728732779_3314273_2553438_n.jpg

6610_136759782779_728732779_3314280_2443575_n.jpg

And a bounce tower
6610_136759742779_728732779_3314274_8134876_n.jpg

But we came for this scary thing!
6610_136759777779_728732779_3314279_103257_n.jpg

Decided no to sit at the front
6610_136759757779_728732779_3314276_7608718_n.jpg

Mid ride
6610_136759772779_728732779_3314278_6398940_n.jpg

Now we head back to the UK, specifically Northern Ireland, and some 'normal' signs
6610_136759787779_728732779_3314281_5706567_n.jpg

Saw this just about everywhere!
6610_136759812779_728732779_3314284_1222569_n.jpg

After a couple of hours of driving we get to Port Rush, and NI's only park!
6610_136759817779_728732779_3314285_3222300_n.jpg

As we enter we are greeted by this... The Experience!
6610_136759822779_728732779_3314286_411678_n.jpg

There was a better sign of Barrys inside!
6610_136759832779_728732779_3314288_2132532_n.jpg

Straight through, find out the prices and we hit the first coaster of the park, Pinfari looper!
6610_136759837779_728732779_3314289_6834862_n.jpg

Tom is bracing for pain!
6610_136759842779_728732779_3314290_6035748_n.jpg

Wasn't too bad of a ride, normal pain, and fairly slow! Now for the second wacky worm. But this one is a Big Apple!
6610_136759852779_728732779_3314292_1085772_n.jpg

But it also comes with a frog!
6610_136759857779_728732779_3314293_5163024_n.jpg

it is quite a big apple!
6610_136759872779_728732779_3314295_2814156_n.jpg

Tom decided to do the Freak Out

6610_136759992779_728732779_3314313_4377147_n.jpg

There was also a Ghost Train
6610_136759997779_728732779_3314314_1823831_n.jpg

Scary!
6610_136760002779_728732779_3314315_5546558_n.jpg

Tom was pleasantly shocked
6610_136760012779_728732779_3314317_5548424_n.jpg

In Port Rush they had a sun dial
6610_136760022779_728732779_3314319_469358_n.jpg

Another nice Beach!
6610_136760027779_728732779_3314320_6986760_n.jpg

Since we were nearby, we thought why not!
6610_136760032779_728732779_3314321_2351884_n.jpg

There we go! Giants Causeway!

6610_136760137779_728732779_3314337_1817290_n.jpg

100km back to Dublin!
6610_136760142779_728732779_3314338_2301119_n.jpg

And we crossed a awesome bridge!

6610_136760152779_728732779_3314340_4848143_n.jpg

As we were both tired after all the driving, we just crashed out and got some sleep before longer drives the next day!

Day 2 coming soon...

I didn't read the report, I'm sure it was excellent as always.

I just had a rampant desire to post these two images to see if anyone can find what was maybe wrong?

giant_comb.jpg

I'm happy Tom got over there, and I'm sure you had a great time - but before ANYONE ever sees me (including my wife and kids), I sort my hair out so that at least for the first hour of the day I don't look like Wurzel Gummage.

worzel.jpg

Erm, yeah! :)

^lol!

Nice report Mushy. God you two are hardcore aren't ya? All that way for Big Apple's and Pinfari's?

Can't wait to see your day 2 pics now!

Haha nice to see you got the geography right Mark. I personally don't count it part of Ireland too unlike some of our terrorist organisations. Also risky move taking an Irish registered car up to some of those areas  .

Great report so far Mark. I can't believe how much new stuff they have got in Funtasia. A few years ago there was only really the Wacky Worm and an arcade cente. They really have improved the selection of rides and I will be taking a trip there soon now. Hope they get a biggish coaster soon.

I have to say that this doesn't inspire me to visit Ireland just yet. I'll keep watching though.

 , I wouldn't blame you. I haven't a clue why tourists come here apart from getting the credits. The north and south of Ireland are beautiful but there is feck all around Dublin. I think people only come here for Guinness and friendly people.

13th August

We had some epic driving between Dublin and Galway, our next park

You would of drove past my house on the drive from Dublin to Galway!

Lol great to see all the coasters and parks Ireland has to offer  ... Barry's looks like it has some decent fair rides so might be worth a quick visit if I'm ever up near Belfast.

That last little park looks kinda fun, mainly becuase of the Schwartzy. I really want to ride one of those one day.

Were both them Mouse coasters Zamperla? They're 'slightly' different to the Reverchon/Fabbri models aren't they?

I prefer PTR's to little parks like this, they're more intreaging for some reason. Looks like you had alot of fun anyway!

Nice last day of the trip guys, the Schwarzkopf was certainly worth the trip alone. Funny to still see the Thunder Loop Express signs and Italian safety signs all over the coaster even though its now called Shockwave.

Hope you both enjoyed Ireland and the guinness.

^^^I was tired! :p

I think that ride travels with the Funderland fair, so when that's around Belfast or Dublin you could try riding it then if you just want a city break. Would go back for Dublin alone next time.

Yeah it does the main Funderland event in Dublin over the Christmas/New Year period for a few weeks and throughout the rest of the year when its not at Tramore it does the other events at Cork and Belfast.

I just hope one year they come up with a wristband idea as its hard to whore it when its €3 a go. Last year it was €4.
