What's new

Kingda Ka and Green Lantern's removal for new 2026 record-breaking coaster (page 7)

Even with the merger, could it be possible a reimagining done by Intamin could have been in the works/contracted before the merger? I'm sure if it was there would be some hefty fees if the new Six Flags company terminated the contract depending on how far into the reimagining they were. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge about this kind of stuff would be able to shed some light/speculate on this.

Also, could just be wishful thinking on my end. It's hard to believe I've been riding coasters long enough that the older ones could/will be removed in the not so distant future.

I'm just thinking about this from the business perspective as I have no emotional attachment to the ride (and frankly was underwhelmed by its launch to an extent when compared to say Xcelerator at Knott's)... I really do not think it's going anywhere before the end of 2026. I think you've gotta wait to see if TT2 can get righted before making any long term calls. That said, it also might not open in 2026 either as the chain observes TT2. Zamperla's thrill coaster division doesn't appear to be overly busy after TT2 so if it can get TT2 righted, there's the chance KK closes or remains closed for 2027 and reopens as Kingda Ka v 2.0 for 2028. But even with that said, new trains, LSM stators and other LSM accessories are not cheap even without any additional trackwork... Is a (guesstimating) $20 million capital outlay worth keeping the ride?

So GL is now officially coming down.

Scrap heap or relocate/sell?

'80s/'90s stand-ups are a dwindling breed.
Given its age, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t destined for the scrap heap at this point. It’s 27 years old; they likely wouldn’t be a million years away from needing to do work to it anyway if it was relocated.

If it does go to the scrap heap, it'll be only the second B&M ever to do so (or technically third when counting Dragon Challenge as two separate coasters).

And I guess a couple others have been mostly or entirely rebuilt, but there's no way that's in the cards for GL.

LSM conversion coming to Stealth, Formula Rossa, and Kingda Ka? 🤪
From the official Intamin website

obviously it's wrong, but funny nonetheless
It's not entirely implausible that Kingda Ka, Stealth, Formula Rossa and Superman could get LSM conversions this year although I think it's probably a mistake 😅

Edit: It seems like Intamin have thrown in the Hydraulic launched coasters in with LSM ones and put them all down as LSM.

Local news article teases an announcement of an announcement;
JACKSON — The ownership of Six Flags Great Adventure will make a major announcement about the park and its future later this week, sources tell New Jersey 101.5.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation will announce the closing of the Kingda Ka roller coaster. The company will also announce additional plans as part of a $50 million dollar investment in the park to commemorate its 50th-anniversary celebration.

A "new and exciting ride" will replace Kingda Ka which at 456 feet, or 45 stories, is the tallest coaster in the world and fastest roller coaster in North America. Kindga Ka, which first opened in 2005 but has become too expensive to maintain with numerous mechanical issues, the source said.

The Jackson Construction & Inspection office confirmed to NJ 101.5 that the park has also applied for a construction permit to demolish the Green Lantern roller coaster, the Twister attraction and the parachute ride.

I just can't believe Six Flags isn't announcing these closures ahead of time. It doesn't hurt to give a heads up, especially with freaking Kingda Ka of all rides.
they better make a good freaken replacement IF it gets removed, 400ft B&M strata similar to fury325?, RMC t-rex?, a big ass dive? (hope not),TT2 treatment but by gerstlaurer or intamin?. lets hope its not something dissapointing like a wacky worm or wild mouse & it BETTER NOT be something cheesey like "kingda ka's revenge" or "emperorda ka"

With expectations like those prepare to be dissappointed. At this point all we can do is wait and see what happens. It's a bummer but really isn't all that surprising.

So if it gets a TT2-esque treatment and doesn't get fully demolished does that not still mean that in essence Ka as it stands is going away in any case? I imagine people would've been doing these goodbye rounds to TTD too if it hadn't been SBNO for like a year before they announced they'd be making any changes.

That’s why I’m thanking the fans ! Some folks may say it’s just rumours or whatever but without y’all a lot of us wouldn’t even had a last ride on the tallest coaster in the world !
