Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Results!

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

Anyone notice that it's gone back to having Dragons Fury and Spinball as separate entries. Finally! Yay!

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

This is the first time I voted, even though it was one of my lowest coaster years. Texas Giant was 1, and my last was Revenge of the Mummy USH. I think I had 44 total. It was weird seeing it lower but then I realized clones aren't included and the number made more sense.

I havent ridden many coasters this year...should I still vote? I would put Nemesis as my Number 1, but I haven't ridden it since 2010 so I dont know if my opinion on what ride is better than what would count.

Of course you should vote! And vote exactly the way you want, it will all count.

I'm probably gonna get lynched for some of the positions of coasters on my ballot, but here's my top 10:

1. Nitro (Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey)
2. Kumba (Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida)
3. Skyrush (Hersheypark, Pennsylvania)
4. Apollo's Chariot (Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Virginia)
5. Storm Runner (Hersheypark, Pennsylvania)
6. Maverick (Cedar Point, Ohio)
7. Intimidator 305 (King's Dominion, Virginia)
8. Magnum XL-200 (Cedar Point, Ohio)
9. Montu (Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida)
10. Sooperdooperlooper (Hersheypark, Pennsylvania)

I would have Big Bad Wolf in my top 5 but it got snubbed this year. I also had a lot of fun trying to find Scorpion @ BGT and found out it's classified under "Favorite Looping Star / Silver Arrow"

I'll reveal the other 55 coasters on my ballot when the results come out next month.
Bravo for staying strong with the B&M Hypers! :D

There's nothing wrong with the last, but SURELY you've been on something more deserving of a top 10 spot than this? :?

I say the same thing about TTD and Kingda Ka, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

Well.. some people like TTD and KK.. some people don't. NO ONE likes SDL. I've never.. ever.. heard a slightly positive review.. ever.

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

I thought it was okay. Unremarkable, but okay. That's slightly positive :p

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

I would say Sooperdooperlooper is slightly positive. It's no MindBender, but definitely on par with Revolution at SFMM.

Let me put it this way - I have yet to ride a Schwarzkopf looper and say, "that was awful." They are old school loopers that do what they are supposed to.

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

Just sent in my ballot!

Here's my top 20:
1) Skyrush: most intense airtime available atm, incredible adrenaline rush!
2) Intimidator 305: unparalled sensation of speed!
3: Black Mamba: amazing theming, incredibly smooth and great landscaping
4) Favourite woodie: Troy
5) Stealth: one of the best launches available, smooth and best top hat I've been on!
6) Nitro: imo a lot better than the other B&M hypers I've been on, a lot of sustained airtime
7) Katun: powerful coaster with great landscaping
8) Bizarro (SFNE): great coaster that probably deserves a higher ranking, but the awful theming and restraints destroyed it a bit for me.
9) Goliath (WW): a bit lower, shorter and not as powerful as Bizarro but with a much better setting! (and more comfortable restraints)
10) Goliath (SFNE): freefall forwards and backwards! Plus a nice and smooth looping section :--D

11) Flight of Fear (KD)
12) Furius Baco
13) Oblivion
14) iSpeed
15) Fahrenheit
16/17) Winjas
18) Kingda Ka
19) Euro-Sat
20) Krake

Bottom 5:
5) Shockwave (KD)
4) Loch Ness Monster
3) Favourite Tivoli
2) Favourite Vekoma Boomerang
1) Tornado (Bakken)

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

Is Tornado that bad? I looks horrifying in POV (incredibly rough)

I just did my weed out and Y/Y Y/N... Some 210 coasters to now place in order, I'm stupid and still do it all by hand :? (and I haven't done the steel poll since 09 so I cant even use my old ballot as a guide)

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

Is it irresponsible to submit a ballot that only includes your top 40 or so ranked coasters? I've only ridden 88 steel coasters and I still can't be arsed to distinguish between the lower half of them.. just a whole bunch of meh, mostly. A tip of the cap to those of you with larger counts who still summon the motivation to rank everything they've ridden.

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

Not if your bottom ones are all "best Boomerang", "best Zyklon", etc. Just junk really that will never ever get anywhere.

If you - honestly - think that say a ride like Bizarro at SFNE is worse than a Boomerang, then you should put them in, as it makes a difference to the ranking of those "well regarded" coasters.

But yeah, if it's all turd, then it's up to you.

I do love that the poll is a real leveller in terms of "creds" and is even right wing for my tastes ;)

I had a choice of just 88 coasters, which is fantastic and that means I've been on a "good variety" of 88 steels coasters, which is down about 30 or so on my real count - so I must have been on 20 types of complete bollocks not worth putting into the poll :)

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

That took me a little longer than I'd planned - pesky missing a few years out meaning some head-scratching...

Anyway top'n'bottom don't change ; Nemesis and X:\No Way Out respectively (although Piraten is pushing the top and Goudurix pushing the bottom since the last poll)

Does anyone actually bother to scroll past the 30th steel coaster?

I think you're just fine submitted your top 40.

I think it is that bad. It aint my overall worst coaster though. There are a lot of woodies that I would rank lower. And a lot of the "your favourote vekoma", are a bit misleading since some are really nice like eg Limit while others are dreadful like El Condor!

The problem with Tornado though isn't the roughness (I remember it being rather smooth?) but the awful banking! >< Some of the transitions are really tight and if you're in the wrong position in the spinning car you will inevitably get some severe neck shopping!

If the rest are just "a whole bunch of meh" I don't think it matters :) But if you, like me, have some highly ranked coaster pretty far down your lift (Expedition GeForce is eg at the bottom half) then you probably should submit the whole list! I agree though, it's a pain in the ass to do all the rankings :p

Another thing is you'd be amazed how many coasters won't be on your list because they're basically clones. I had only like 55 steel coasters on my ballot even though I've ridden over 100 of them.

Also about my sooper placement. I really enjoy classic coasters and Soops so far hasn't disappointed me for stupid, oldschool fun. Will Mindbender and Shockwave beat it out when I ride them? I hope so or I probably need to get my head checked for real.

Re: Mitch Hawker Steel Coaster Poll 2012 - Voting!

I had 165 steel coasters on my list (although I grouped some together like the 2 Winjas and 4 Intamin Impulse coasters) and 71 woodies, meaning I've been on about 150 either clones or things which weren't even good enough to get on the ballot.
