What's new

New attractions at Paultons Park

Thinking about it, I do reckon it's going to be a water ride + a coaster. The area from the Go-Karts to the Log Flume is probably too big for it not to be two rides. Pure guess, but I reckon the timescale might look like this:

May 2025 - With the opening of Ghostly Manor out of the way, we might have another Superfans event to focus on 2026 and 2027.

2026 - Water ride on the Go-Karts site (and south of it). That's where the construction is now. However, they're dismantling the Log Flume, which arguably suggests they have a more modern replacement planned very soon. Possibly one of those Mack LIM-launched Water Coasters (although that's probably a bit pricey if they do indeed have two big rides in the works).

2027 - New coaster on the Log Flume site with some type of barrel roll or inline twist. My money's on an Intamin Hot Racer or GCI Hybrid.

I think a Coaster and Water Ride combo does seem very realistic and likely. From what the park appears to have teased, the coaster and possibly the water ride seems to be in 2026. I'd say it would be intertwined together so they'd interact at different parts.

A 2027 expansion/phase 2 is realistic although I think it may be a slightly smaller investment i.e. a family ride or a thrilling flat ride. The old log flume was very compact as it was a travelling model which the site would be big enough for a flat ride of some form on its own - if combined with the nearby playground and water play area, it could be big enough for a compact coaster.

It does appear to be a massive area with very exciting potential. The teased coaster has the potential to be cover a very large area of the park.

I love hearing about the different ideas and thoughts about this project as it's very exciting and not knowing for sure what it is.

I think Paultons are going to really focus on rides that a family can experience together. I dont think they'd like the 1 row nature of single rails because of this.

My predications are;
Water Ride : a rapids ride similar to Dolina Jagi at Legandia or a small intamin modern log flume, ala chiapas but smaller scale. Either themed loosely to Viking Dragon boat racing.
Roller Coaster : a small scale family GCI titan track wooden coaster with a single inversion or a small scale launch coaster, a model we've not seen before, kinda like a family Juvelen style ride with an inversion. Woodie is an easy viking theme, unsure on steel launch coaster. My heart wants to say a launched family wooden coaster using GCI titan track but im not sure Paultons would take on the risk of being the prototype for the launch. I also feel they'd have teased the launch as well as the inversion in this instance.

Re theme of Magma, Cobra and potential removal / retheme of Edge.
Relocation / removal of digger ride and seal falls.

My predictions are based on;
  • Paultons have significantly increased their electrical capacity within the proposed works area. I think this goes hand in hand with the high electrical load required with either a launch or pumping significant volumes of water.
  • As shown with Mandrill Mayhem and Maximus, inversions on family coasters are possible and are popular. The inverting tease from the super fans event does not mean we're getting a full thrill multi inverting coaster.
  • At the Super fans event real emphasis was placed on Paultons wanting to be able to cater to families as a whole, especially focusing where families can interact as one unit and experience things together, rather than being broken up into groups or riding alone.
  • Paultons ties to Gravity Group and historic interest in wooden coasters.
  • Removal of the existing log flume.
  • Super fans event. Wooden frame filling a steel forging mold that then inverts upside down.
  • I think Paultons relationship with Mack is a bit of a red herring. Working with Mack on an off the shelf family coaster and small prototype dark ride is very different to working with Mack on a custom water coaster or other roller coaster. I think other manufacturers will offer better value for money for what I think Paultons are looking for in their vikings area.
  • I like the idea of an interacting water ride and coaster kinda like El Toro at Plohn. Paultons are historically big on multi ride and pathway interaction as shown in Lost Kingdom and Tornado Springs

Well, this is certainly catching peoples' interest...
Good on Paultons because whichever way this turns out, it appears that there is a level of appreciation even before manufacturer, ride number/type are announced.
The idea of an interacting set of attractions would be fantastic, and as for a preference of manufacturer... depends on the ride type. But I am not sure how the 'inversion' would be incorporated. If it is 2 rides, which would feature this? Quite a lot for Paultons still to reveal, I think.
Have I missed something, or do we have any announcement dates to know more?

You took the words right out of my mouth. Especially the example of Plohn and El Toro. This is what I was thinking of as well regarding the interaction of a coaster and water ride. They did also mention at the Superfans event that the electricity bill has risen drastically. I don't know how this would impact their decision on what type of rides they would go for.

Also the date has been set for the Superfans event next year. May 17th 2025, can't wait!!

Paultons already have a vekoma jnr boomerang.

...and?

...and?

That's Energylandia 😅

Most parks wouldn't look typically get more than one Vekoma Family Boomerang for their park unless it's dueling. 🤔

Yeah, that's a good point. The more I think about it, the more I think it might be one of the GCI concepts in this thread.

  • Wild Compact Coaster - 14.6m height
  • Slab Coaster V1 - 26.8m height
  • Compact Coaster - 16.9m height

The Compact Coasters would be a bit disappointing, in my opinion, but the Slab Coaster V1 looks fantastic.

As for the water ride, if it's not launched, they'd be better off going for something very family friendly, in my opinion. Some tunnels with a few Viking animatronics, and a very small drop, if at all. If none of the new rides in the Viking area are launched, it leaves room for something like Juvelen in Critter Creek a bit later.

I've noticed with Merlin parks we typically see planning permission applications published several years ahead (eg the new rollercoaster at Chessington or Horizon at Alton Towers) which typically give at least some idea of what the attractions will be.

Paultons seem to have work underway (even if it is preliminary) but no such application, is there a reason for that?

So they have in a way, back in 2022 they applied then got planning permission on the Cobra/Edge area and the area to the left of the Go-Karts to be registered as "amusement park use".

I believe like some other parks they dont need to show a detailed plan, as long as they stay within certain limits (height etc) they can just get on and build in areas designated as "amusement park'. For instance i dont remember Tornado Springs showing a layout of the area before it was built.

Its a bit annoying we wont know what is going in but i like that we wont know whats coming till we see it, i like a surprise 😁

Looking at this, they might be leaving the part closest to the car park for a later development 🤔
I was thinking the same thing, as it looks like the seal falls and digger ride aren't being removed yet. Could possibly be a whole separate area where the Wave swinger is with the Viking area taking up half of the picnic area as well as the Go Karts and Cobra area.

Oh that's great, i much prefer not knowing too! Just wondered why, thanks!

Which is what made me think the Log Flume wasn't originally planned to go until the end of the 2025 season 🤔

Having another look at the map, I don't think there's room for anything to sneak by south of Cobra (where Edge is). I reckon we're definitely looking at something in the west (water ride?) and something in the east (coaster?) If they interlink, I think it would be approximately where the Dragon Roundabout is.

Looking at the planned ride availability, Cobra goes down in September next year and will still not be available by April 2026. Magma is the same from November to April. Understandable, but it adds something to the emerging picture. Edge is November to February.

Edge and Dragon don't appear to be mentioned whatsoever which might mean removal or relocation.

It is possible those will close for the 2025 season either temporarily or permanently. With Edge, this seems to echo Chessington with Kobra for 2026 doing a relocation and full season closure 🤔

The Go Karts area does seem to be a perfect location for a clone of Viking Voyage at Emerald Park.

EDIT: Edge does appear to have a closure listed for Winter 2025/26 from November to February 2026. Relocation might be a possibility.
