What's new

New news from Pleasure Beach, Blackpool.

Am I the only one that thinks they got the inspiration for that fountain from the urinals at those dodgy seaside public toilets? =/

The station looks very nice, but to be honest I feel like it's just spread that new, sterile, professional feel which is too professional for a theme park. I like the station, but it's just changing the Blackpool feel from an old, traditional park with a modern twist into a modern, sterile park with some old rides.

It's good, but I rather they went more for a family feel then this professional feel. I can't really get what I want to say into words, but I think I got the gist across.

So should I presume one of the other trains got too much damage in the accident, so thats why they're now using a very old train?

Nope.

The second train is not in service yet, as they need to put a new sensor (not sure where its going) on the track to ensure if the train is sent too early again, it will be stopped on the lift.

This work is expected to take place between March and April, so it could be anytime from March that the second train is put on the system.

Ok, but you didn't really correct me, did you? Why are they using a new train, well one thats been in storage for years?

Whats happened with the 2 normal trains they used to run? (You say one needs a sensor, so where's the other?)

Certainly looks better than it was looking at the end of last year, nice to see it running again, will look forward to a ride on her on 16th April!

I answered that question last year but clearly nobody was taking it in. Dipper was originally going to re-open last year, so the train that is on the track now, was put on Dipper around September/October time, but in the end I dont think everything that needed doing, ie, HSE inspection, work to get it back open, could of been carried out in time to re-open before the end of the season, hence why they didnt bother rushing it last year.

So the above answers why the train which was in storage is now in use, because it was the only train in a fit state to be used last year, but now they've got it ready, they might aswell continue to use it.

As for the two trains involved in last years incident, well neither of them can be used anyway until that sensor is put in place, so its irrelevant to question if they are ready or not, because even if they are ready, there is no chance of them being used until April.

And I know your next question will be asking why the sensor wasnt ready for opening day, well I dont know the answer to that, but from what I saw on the Friday before opening day, it looked like they only just got Dipper ready in time, they were still working in the station at 10:30pm.

Scott, I think Martyn just wanted clarification - I didn't understand what why the older train myself, but now you've expanded on that - it makes sense. Thank you :)

The sensor will come when it comes. It's exceptionally early in the year still, and Blackpool have really worked hard to get the majority of their (running this year ;) ) attractions open for Feb half-term. You can forgive them for not quite getting an entire new safety system in place and running on Big Dipper when it wasn't needed yet.

I think the "onion" needs some nicely coloured lights, to stop it from looking like it's made from old microwaves.

Doesn't really deserve it's own topic, so it can go in here.

Apparently, The Monorail can now be added to that very long list of closed rides.

No doubt it will sit there SBNO for many, many years.

I went on Saturday and it was running.
Also what are talking about it would be SBNO for many years, im sure a park like Pleasure Beach what really cares about what the park looks like wouldn't just leave it SBNO.

^ LOL, really?

What about..... Trauma Tower, Noahs Ark, Gold Mine, The Whip, Turtle Chase, Black Hole, Roller Coaster.... and no doubt there are more.

Trauma Towers building is only standing the ride isn't. Noahs Ark looks amzing as it so why get rid of something when their is no need to, Gold Mine... Where have you been Goldmine is being turned into the new Wallace and Grommit dark ride, The whip went a while ago, same with turtle chase that also went a while ago, Black hole that was at Alton Towers, if you mean Space Invader 2, well thats now Big Pizza Kitchen Buffet and Roller Coater has been Nick Streak for 2 years now.

I think he means in the past, Like how Trauma Towers was still in the building non-operational up to a few years back, Goldmine has been SBNO on and off for some years before plans had even been drawn up. Black hole was also a ride at Pleasure Beach as well. Roller Coaster was also on and off.

Everytime I have visited the park Goldmine had always been open, even if the ride is trauma towers was still there, you can't see it any way and can some get a picture of the black hole for me.

^Black Hole was a great ride. But easily overlooked.

As for the monorail, when I went the other week the website had said it would be closed but in fact it was running all day. Kept breaking down, mind, but was more-or-less running.

The biggest problem is all the redevelopment of the last decade or so means the monorail mainly presents you with views of car parks, portakabins, grotty bins and near-derelict buildings. Not the most picturesque journey!

This. The PBE is the way to see the park now, they've made a real effort there. I remember when the monorail used to go through the Casino building and there were themed sections and stuff. It also ran through the Fun House too. It used to be a superb ride and I always went on it, like the Alton Monorail, to get excited about all the really fab and fun things Blackpool had to offer...

Yeah, it's been a long time.............
