I thought I had been on quite a few in the UK but looking at RCDB we as a country "love" Pinfari. They have more operating coasters than any other manufacture in the UK, also out of 89 existing Pinfari's around the world 22 of them are in the UK with brazil in 2nd with 9 and the USA in 3rd with 8. I'm intrigued as to why they do so well here, I guess its perfect for all the small parks we have and they were the SBF of their day being a cheap addition.Pinfari remains the company behind so many coaster builds in the UK year after year.
The only thing that occurs to me as a reason would be that the soil quality means that it's hard to dig the smaller holes and instead it's easier just to dig one large hole down. For example, if the holes keep caving in because the soil doesn't hold together well, it might be a good way of (cheaply) getting the foundations in. Your other options are probably dig/fill equipment or piling, both of which are probably relatively expensive options when compared to the labour costs of a digger for the weekend.Hmm, I wonder how common digging a massive hole, creating each footer as a standalone column, and then filling round the footers is versus digging individual holes for each footer to be poured in?
And what are the pros and cons of each?
It's not entirely within my field either, but what @Hixee said sounds plausible. If you have pre-fabricated the footers, I guess digging a pit would be the better solution, but in this case they appear to have gone to the hassle with formwork and on-site pouring, in which case you might as well just dig a hole for each footer. But if the soil is too loose, that's not an option.Hmm, I wonder how common digging a massive hole, creating each footer as a standalone column, and then filling round the footers is versus digging individual holes for each footer to be poured in?
And what are the pros and cons of each?
Following Tom's post and my (admittedly rather alcohol addled) response, RCDB reports not 1 but 2 very small new arrivals at the delightful New Brighton Funfair. A Guven oval coaster and a Wacky Worm with a rather odd shark theme, which I can't decide if I like or I'm mildly disturbed by!^Oh well. +1. And +2 for you if you can find Wx6.
I'll never get over the loss of the Top Scan they had for a year or two. That thing threw people around like Samurai wishes it could throw people around! It was so out of place at Flamingo Park! Fabulous. A shame that it involved, you know, going to Hastings. This is a big step up for a park that's survived most of my lifetime with a wacky worm and some bumper cars though. Good for them.Pinball X is now built at Flamingo Park Hastings, and should be opening next week:
New Hastings ride is fully built and set to open: in pictures
A new ride at a Hastings amusement park has been fully built and its opening could be as early as May 1.www.hastingsobserver.co.uk
This is old news, but the Casino Pier park map was released some time ago, it appears that in order to accommodate the new Xolo Loca, the Air Race (2014) has been removed and the Hot Tamales coaster rebuilt within its perimeter. The Air Race is no longer listed on the website, not sure whether it will come back or not. Anybody know more?Another one I haven't seen posted so far - Casino Pier on the Jersey Shore is adding a custom SBF Visa Big Air (hamster wheel) coaster called Xolo Loca for the 2021 season. For those wondering, Xolo is the name of Mexico’s native dog.

Walked past it yesterday, did not feel the need/have the motivation to ride it.There’s a new +1 at Llandudno Pier. I missed it being made official on RCDB and Coaster-Count, probs cos I was in Covid Jail and completely out of it.
But I’ve been released now, so obvs I went down and got it this afternoon.
The Welsh Mountain Zoo is a good little attraction, especially nice, like most things, on a sunny day. Have you already got the Green Dragon Coaster at Greenwood as that's not far from there either?Got the Llandudno cred today (£3 if you're wondering and card taken at the token booth)
People will also be pleased to know it's 6 miles from the Welsh Mountain Zoo, so I made a new friend.
