If any of you have been to DLP in the last 6 months or so you'll have been spited by Space Mountain Mission 2 since it started the first phase of a major refurbishment on January 12th. It has now reopened!

As bladeboy says, this is just phase one of the refurb. The second phase is when we'll see the new trains, music etc. This phase was just an initial clean and tidy up with, by the sounds of things, additional projection effects. Phase 2 will open mid 2017 for the 25th anniversary celebrations.

The ride sort-opened last week and from reading reports by @ed92live on Twitter, little has changed unfortunately. The ride is still Mission 2. Effects have been updated and improved however it seems that little else has changed. The cannon opens and closes and puffs smoke but still doesn't recoil. A single rider queue has been added which is handy. There's a phase 2 refurb planned for the first half of 2017 when the new trains are coming so hopefully there'll be more improvements then.

I'm going in a couple of weeks so will post with updates.

The addition of the single rider queue intrigues me in terms of how it'll work. We won't find out till tomorrow when the ride officially reopens.

P.s. I think I posted all of this info in a topic earlier in the year.

Apparently the previously unused mezzanine around the station will hold the single rider queue. No idea where the entry will be though. There were also rumours that they were relocating the fastpass entrance - no idea if this has happened or not.

Yeah, I was more curious about how single riders get down to the loading platform. Doesn't look like they've added a second stairway so I take it they'll just use one side of the current staircase. Meaning that normal queue is going to feel like it moves a lot quicker.

^ There is s spiral staircase up the other end that goes down to the station. They may use that as the way up before coming back down the normal stairs.

Huh? They've built a new dedicated staircase to get to that mezzanine from the outside. Once there though they must be going down that main staircase like I said. The spiral staircase at the other end is purely used for staff. It's also very narrow, I can't imagine they'd use that.

Hmm, I stand corrected. There was a shareholder event last night and a picture emerged showing that the single rider queue is indeed using that small spiral staircase next to the control box.

It would be so cool if they could reintroduce that queue line that went through the mountain and interacted with the coaster during its first 10 years. It could happen in phase 2.

I have edited the initial post so its now accurate and people don't get too excited when they read it!

They've either made changes already or have plans for some changes in phase 2, I can't remember which way round it is.

I've seen more reviews saying the new projections are looking amazing. Can't wait to see it again.

I have recently been to the park and I honestly found the ride really disappointing - while the ride was clean, the effects inside the mountain weren't too well hidden (the track was visible inside the mountain) and the ride was unbearably rough - so much so that I went on it once at the start of my stay on didn't return. I really hope that phase two does bring more to the table, as the ride desperately needs new trains and hopefully a new soundtrack/theme similar to the original. Nautilus on the other hand was really clean, and I spent more time in that than the roller coaster.

^Yeah. The queue was clean enough but not really to my taste, and the effects inside the mountain were, if anything, worse than what I remembered of the ride before the refurb. The space section seemed to be themed like Crush's Coaster, just with a few planets and what looked like a huge TV screen showing an explosion at the top of the lift. At least Crush's Coaster doesn't give you concussion...

If we're lucky maybe we could see new trains with lapbars like the one on the boomerang at Weiner Prater. That coaster has inversions and lapbars and it is safe. IMO there is no excuse at all for any future Vekoma looping train to have lapbars.

There's already a picture floating about of the new train design. Unless they've changed their mind they'll be getting the vest harness like on B&M wingriders.

I don't care if it's a vest or a lapbar, but all Vekoma coasters need to get rid of the bulky OTSRs ASAP.

Pretty under whelming refurbishment in my opinion.

They cleaned it up, added a single rider queue, fixed some effects, added some LED lighting. This took 6 months?

Didn't even get the recoil effect working on the columbiad.

We can only hope that they (randomly) decided to do a lot of the other broken stuff in the second phase of the refurb...

Hopefully...

But we knew that's all they were doing? Not sure what else you expected?

It's a big ol building and to clean it all up and fix lots of things must have taken quite some effort. Don't forget this is all just to make the next stage a lot easier to make changes.

I don't understand the lack of new trains this time but I suppose it makes the slight rebrand a bit more obvious after the next stage of work.

Also, yeah, no idea why they didn't fix the recoil effect, must be a reason.
